200 a day challenge

Saw this once in another forum and thought it was a great idea.

Lets have a 200 a day jumping jack challenge...so from now until Next Thursday try and get 200 jumping jacks in each day. These are great cardio...if you need to break them down into smaller amounts througout the day but get 200 of them in no matter what. This also will helo boost our minutes for the month both personally and as a group.

Who is is with me?

BridgetJFan 05-18-2006 12:17 PM

Gee, I wish my knees would let me do jumping jacks!! But I'll be rootin' for ya!! BJF

kalishea 05-18-2006 12:46 PM

I'll do it! I'm kinda new here so what do you mean by boost minutes for the month?

most of us have a monthly goal of a certain amount of minutes exercised this month. Also as a group the forum has a goal of 20,000 minutes alltogether. Now 200 jumping jacks takes about 2 minutes. So everyday that is 5 extra minutes you can add to your total...a little bit goes a long way, and they can be done anywhere anytime :)

200 jumping jacks in one day? I think that would kill me! But, to experiment, I will try as many in one day as I can and see what happens.

Stephanie Osborne 05-18-2006 01:11 PM

lady james - I break mine into 50's takes about a minute to do 50...

Nevaeh 05-18-2006 01:34 PM

I'm in! Are we going to check back in here with each other or just add on minutes to the minute challenge?

salvi 05-18-2006 01:36 PM

Count me in. When I rowed in college we used to have to do these things called "jumpies." They mimick the rowing motion and are the best plyometric you can do for the sport. Here's the deal, you squat all the way down so your knees are at a 90 degree angle, then from that position jump up. As soon as you land, go right back down to the squat. We used to have to do 200 at every practice, and let me tell you, your quads, but, inner thighs - everything will burn more than you can ever imagine!

That was kind of off topic, but I was just reminded of it. But, yes, I'm in for the jumping jacks!! That will be a good warm up before my run today!

I'll do it! I could use a good motivation to get moving on the days I don't make it to the gym. This'll be a good way to get some exercise in while watching tv or surfing the 'net.

Wow, that sounds painless! I will join you on this challenge. Ironically enough, I actually did ten jumping jacks the other day, to see what it felt like. I hadn't done any since elementary school.

Stephanie Osborne 05-18-2006 04:49 PM

Lets check in here with each other and also add our minutes to the monthly minute total.

I have 150 done so far gonna get that next 50 done any minute now.

Lifeguard 05-18-2006 05:27 PM

Well, I'm not sure if my boobs will appreciate this but I'm in! I need something to start getting the exercise going regularly.

Great idea!

Nicklewise 05-18-2006 05:32 PM

I am in to, I am just starting to add excesise to my program, this is a nice little way to ease myself back in!!

denice81 05-18-2006 08:35 PM

i'm in too, sounds like a great way to add 35 minutes of cardio to my week

expressyourself 05-18-2006 08:43 PM

count me in! Thats a really good idea, i've been wanting to add a few more things to my routine.. and this is perfect!

amb_lyn 05-18-2006 08:48 PM

Count me in! I'm gonna go do them now and see how many i can do at one time

ladyjames63 05-19-2006 01:22 PM

I only did 50 this morning, because I did not realize how much noise and floor-shaking jumping jacks would do! I live on the top floor of a triple decker, and even though my neighbors had all left, one of my roommates was still asleep. I am hoping that I can get in the rest at work today, because you are right -- jumping jacks do not take long at all!

trnsfrmnreplace 05-21-2006 12:26 AM

Thanks for posting it up here.
I've been around the other forum and have been doing these since.
It really gives you an overall tightness, and soreness, after a few days.
Got to love it !

Hpnotq 05-21-2006 12:37 AM

Alright...I did it once...but I'll give it a go again :)

Stephanie Osborne 05-22-2006 09:13 AM

I have been going strong with my jumping jacks and adding 200 crunches as well (switching up the type of crunch so as not to overwork one area) it takes me about 10 minutes per day and has really beed adding up. Maja you are right it is surprising how something as little as jumping jacks can make your legs so fatigued and tight the next day!

ladyjames63 05-23-2006 02:01 PM

I have been bad and slacking on the jumping jacks. As much as I dislike my neighbors, I would rather not do 200 jumping jacks on their heads. Do any of you doing the challenge live above people? Do you have any noise-reduction tips?

sugarbutt 06-02-2006 12:36 AM

i am in... but since i missed the 1st ill do about 210 a day to make up for the slack plus a few extra... hopefully i can stick to it and do it all the way through.. hopefully i wont slip up

ladyjames63 06-02-2006 07:54 AM

You all must be in wayyy better shape than me, because I did 50 real jumping jacks last night (outside, to not disturb the neighbors), and was thoroughly beat at 50. But I will do as many a day as I can.

Stephanie Osborne 06-02-2006 11:35 AM

I don't live above anyone haha I can do them whenever I like lol...I do mine in sets of 50...so don't feel bad. You think when we are done with these we should change it to something else like situps?

sugarbutt 06-02-2006 11:56 AM

or do sit ups and jumping jacks... instead of doing one over the other!

Done with jumping jacks? I can't fathom being done with anything right now! :dizzy:

ladyjames63 06-04-2006 07:17 AM

I only did 50 jumping jacks three days ago, and my calves are still aching. Is this normal?

Stephanie Osborne 06-05-2006 11:41 AM

That sounds like a plan, we could do sit ups or jumping jacks...then when your calves were sore you would have an alternative...

ladyjames - my calves get tight after I do them as well...lets try adding some situps in.

Cooooooool. How do you do situps by yourself? I don't have a SO or otherwise exercise partner. And would you know that now five days later, my calves still hurt? I am just going to do my jumping jacks despite the pain, if the pain won't go away! (Except on dance class nights, yayyyyyyyyy for dance class!)
