Congrats!!! I can't wait till I'm able to jog for longer than 2 minutes at a time!! It's such a great cardio exercise!!!

Marineswife85 04-15-2006 06:23 PM

lol same here! I can run for maybe 1/8 mile if that.. lol Then i have to walk and then run again.. I would love to be able to just up and run someday.

I have found out ( because I could never run for more than a few mins without dying!) that if you run really really really really slow....like if you THINK you are running slow...run slower! I started out at a crawl basically..but was still considered jogging :) And I found out that I can last for so much longer. I wish I would have known that before. Just basically go painfully slow, it will be harder mentally to go that slow, but you'll last longer physically

That's great! Those things lift you up so much. Keep at it!

Great work! just keep on pacing yourself and you will get there! To motivate yourself even more you can sign up for a race or something! It motivates me!

I am trying to learn to run/jog...I found a really easy 2 month program at coolrunning.com...it says it takes your body from couch to 5k in two months. I like it because it starts you off with walking/running intervals until your body gets used to the extra demand running puts on it.

thanks for the motivation and tips everyone! stephie, i'm going to check out coolrunning.com right now!

Can't wait to get started again!

Hello all! I'm new to this site and am anxious to join in the support system!

I actually jogged for the first time in the summer of 2000, while weighing about 227 pounds. I started out with 100% walking first. Then, I began walking the straight parts of the lap and jogging just on the curves of the lap. Then, I started walking the first half of the track (the straight and curve part) and running the second half. By the end of two weeks, I was running 1 mile continuously. I continued to run just 1 mile per day/4 to 5 days per week, without going on any type of diet. My appetite automatically decreased and I craved healthier foods and lots of water. By the end of 8 weeks, I had lost 35 pounds. I then became pregnant with my first daughter and that's all she wrote...until now!

I am about to begin running again and can't wait. I don't do diets very well, so this was my answer to weight loss. I felt great, my knees stopped hurting, my appetite was suppressed and I accomplished something that I never thought I could do. I felt empowered and the weight was just melting away.

Congrats to all of us who are taking on this challenge of running/jogging. It is not easy, but is so very rewarding with every single milestone, big or small. And as someone else noted, slow is just fine. I lost that weight jogging at a slow speed. The key was to listen to my body and to not push too hard. When my body told me it was ready, I increased my speed a little. At times, my husband was WALKING alongside me while I was 'jogging'! Didn't matter, I felt like I was pushing as hard as I could, and that's all that mattered. Don't worry, you'll know when you can do more, and when you shouldn't :( !

Good luck to us all!

~Hope~

Hey girls! I didn't see that this was the 20 something thread, so I re-posted my message on the 30-something thread...cause I'm 31!

Anyways, I just wanted to wish you all good luck and to encourage you all to get rid of the weight NOW while you are in your 20's! I wish I had!

Tiffany, I live in PA, but will hopefully be moving to the Newark/Bear area in the next year or so. Maybe I'll catch you on a track somewhere! Also, I read your 'Check me out' page on msn space and read where you mentioned a hoagie. Sounds dee-lish! Though, I'm addicted to Capriotti's!

Anyways, take care girls...I may stop in from time to time to see your progress. Keep on losing!

What a great feeling, denice! I used to scoff at people who talked about "runner's high"... since all running gave me was pain! but i stuck with it, and now I love running - it feels so good!
