i used to go out all the time! i loved dancing and the bars, but since i had a baby and gained about 50 pounds i rarely go out, and when i do i end up leaving early in a bad mood and go home and cry! i feel SOOO fat when i go out. i feel like a giant on the dance floor and all my friends are skinny and always have guys buying them drinks and trying to pick them up-not like im looking to be picked up- i have a wonderful man-but its nice to know men still look....well they dont look my way anymore i guess haha
yet another reason i want to lose weight....

I think it's all about confidence, despite your size. I've gone out dancing and dance like I'm the hottest girl there. While this is certainly a subjective view, it's how I feel.

Confidence is the biggest "attractor", if you feel uncomfortable, you'll more than likely act that way, and people will pick up on it.

no, you aren't the only one. I get really envious at weddings and stuff with all the teeny tiny women around, at least I know i'm on my way to being one of them.

Haha, I pay 1200 a month for a studio.

No lie. I'm not even "downtown."

I always feel like I am surrounded by skinny people... especially walking around a college campus. I even was in a class with a Patriots cheerleader... talk about depressing. She was freakin gorgeous.

I completely understand that depression. lol I've been going to bars/clubs every weekend lately - birthday parties and bachelorettes. Nothing but tiny women surround me. Not to mention it's wedding season...which requires dresses and dancing. Ugh.

cupcake - I understand about wanting men to look. It feels good. Sometimes it goes too far for me, though, and I realize that what I'm really craving is approval. Then I remind myself that the people who really matter already love me unconditionally, and that everything that I do (i.e., losing weight) is for ME.

Kim - I agree with you about confidence. No matter what size you are, it's the most attractive thing for any woman to wear. It can be a tough bugger to find, though

I had no idea that resurrecting this thread would hit such a chord among Chicks. *lol*

That is EXACTLY why I started my diet and joined this forum! I saw some pictures of me dancing at a friends wedding last month...scary. But I love to dance and the good part is, dancing burns a bunch of calories!

Why does it seem like we all have totally beautiful friends? Maybe the solution to your problem is getting some ugly friends. j/k I struggle with the same feelings to. But, I have learned that it can't keep you from getting out there and meeting people. Confidence is key, even if you don't have it, fake it!!! I used to bartend. I was the only plus sized bar tender I knew, and if I didn't come off as confident then people would have looked right past me. You never know who you are going to find out there. Sure there will be a lot of jerks, but there are some amazing people out at those bars too.

What better reason could there be to get out there and shake it?

I love the movie Footloose...you can tell that nobody really cares about how they look, they're just having fun. The dance moves crack me up, but dancing should still be like that!!
