I'm new...just wanted to say hi!

  • My name is Susan, I am 25 yrs old. I have a 5 yr old daughter. I met my husband about 2 1/2 yrs ago, and since we me I have gained about 75 pounds. IT SUCKS!!! I currently weigh about 225. Any one have any good ideas how to get rid of all this weight?
  • Welcome! Start eating healthy and start moving. I find calorie counting is the best plan for me, but you may find something else that works better for you. It really is about finding what you like best. With the start moving part, just incorporate some exercise, it could be a walk or a fitness tape or something like that. Good luck with your weight loss, I started at 223 and am where I am now because of exercising and healthy eating!
  • Welcome to the boards!
Advice? Just know that losing weight doesn't come from pills, shakes, or plans that cut out whole food groups. Make sure it's something that you can do for the rest of your life. (I'm a WW's girl).
The bottom line is exercising, eating in moderation and with a variety of foods. There's so many ways to get where you want to be.
Good luck with everything! You can do it. It might take time, but in the end it's all worth it. Keep us posted on your progress!
    And again...
  • Welcome Susan!!! You've found a great place to come for advice, support and fun!

I have found that all the advice in the world won't help until one's ready to commit to a lifestyle and attitude change. And once that happens it really comes down to eating less and better foods and exercising. What ever way one decides to do that (WW, LAWL, Adkins, South Beach, Calorie Counting combined with whatever kind of exercise or combination of workouts) it comes down to commitment and taking it day by day. Doubt that helps, but I find it to be true.
  • I agree with Stephanie . Commitment and absolute daily dedication is what gets it done. Select a healthy eating plan that works for you and get regular exercise (I would suggest both cardio and weight training).

    Welcome to 3FC .
  • Welcome!

You could start by picking one or two goals and then working on them until they become a habit. Such as limiting your pop, a certain amount of exercise, or whatever. I started two and a half years ago, which is a long time to lose weight, but now I know I won't go back. I started by cutting down to one pop a day. Then I started exercising three times a week. Then I started eating out less frequently. You get the idea.

    Good luck!
  • Welcome!

I think the other ladies are right--just get moving! Do you belong to a gym? If so, I would start with some low-impact cardio machines and work up some endurance. Plus find a strength training routine that you like--shape.com has lots that you can search through. There's also plenty of stuff you can do at home--I've heard that netflix has a great selection of workout DVDs that you can try out to see if you find something that you like.

I would suggest taking small steps with food changes--anything drastic might be too frustrating to incorporate. Maybe switch to a fiberlicious cereal in the morning, dilute juice with seltzer, stuff like that.
  • Hi there I am new as well. And I gained all of mine after married and had 2 kids. Coincidence? I don't know but I am taking the first step to get rid of it. I have had enough! lol Wishing you luck on your journey.
  • Hi Susan! I am new to the board too. I agree with a lot of the other answers. For me, it is taking discipline and being able to set definite boundaries about eating and exercise. Also, my husband is dieting with me, and having him as a motivation/accountability partner makes a huge difference! Good luck to you!

  • Just take it one day at a time. I think that's the best advice I can give you.

  • welcome. you will find lots of support here. I lost about 20 pounds last summer, but then i stopped losing weight. I want to lose 20 more but it is really hard. The first 20 were easy, but the next 20 are a constant battle to get rid of. The best thing to do, is try and excercise a little bit everyday, and make better choices when it comes to food. Just take it one day at a time. Good Luck.
  • I'd start with not changing what you eat for the first week or two...just add a bunch of veggies and fruit. And without realizing, you'll eat less junk...just think of it that way! And, I would wear a pedometer, and go for a few short walks or a long walk every day. I hurt my back- and realized walking was the only thing that made it feel better. I was walking up to 10 miles a day! And I lost 15 lbs (gained it back- that's why I'm here)...but start small..make a goal of a certain number of steps and increase it each week! you can do it!
