Alcohol
Alright, obviously I know that any alcohol is not the best health wise, especially when trying to lose weight but I am wondering what is the lesser of the evils if I were to have a drink or two? I know that beer and the like are full of calories. There are no calories listed on the hard alcohols, but I have heard that it gets converted to sugar once in your body, is that true? Knowing that it would be best to abstain I still wanna know, which is better? Would, for instance, a jack and diet coke count for calories since there are no calories listed for either?
More or less, it's Friday night and I am trying to find an guilt free excuse to go out!!! HAHAHA  |
Alcohol
From my research, the only choice I have found was rum and Diet Coke. I think it was like 3 pts. for one shot of rum. However, I do still treat myself to a good glass of wine on a Saturday night.

This is a link to dwlz, I hope its ok to post, if its edited out, I can PM you with the link :)
Anyway, its a WW site, but it has a list of drinks/alcohol and it has the calories for some of them listed. http://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/liquor.html Hope that helped :) ~Liz |
Generally, 1 fl oz (a shot is supposed to be 1 or 1.5 oz but a lot of bars serve them bigger) is about 65 calories. I think the higher the alcohol content the higher the calorie count. I looked forever trying to find that info and always thought liquor didn't have much in terms of calories. Helped me cut way back with I found that out.:o

mmm...beer  *amanda drools longingly*

I don't drink all that much but I've decided to give up all alcohol until my 5-k race next month. We will see if that makes any difference. Usually it's not just the booze but the empty cals consumed while inebriated. Pizza at midnight, etc... but I did love to mix Bacardi Apple Rum with Diet Rockstar energy drink. Mmmm...

I love red wine! In the spring I ran a 10k and ran beside a g/f for a while and she said that she had drank a bottle of wine the night before . My first thought was, man she's never gonna make it , but she did... So one Sunday morning, after a Saturday night of drinking 3-4 glasses of wine, I did my run and thought OMG it's gonna be a terrible one... BUT dang it all didn't I have the best run ... and this has happened a few times....Now I don't know, but I'm starting to think, that wine at least, is a very good carb? Maybe  ?? Maybe not ?? But I sure have been having some good Sunday runs after having a couple of glasses of wine on Saturday night... Not sure if this would work with rum or vodka but I would guess that beer is pretty high carb.
Ok, now I'm getting off topic , but Stephanie I see nothing wrong with having a drink or two after a hectic week once in a while... Just be very careful though that after a couple of drinks that your guard doesn't go down the tubes and you start picking at junk food like someone mentionned because this I would think could undo an very good week of diet and exercise... |
Thanks for all your input. Ilene, it's good to know that at least wine, in moderation of course, does maybe have some benefits, hmmmmm maybe I should try some wine. If I could only find some way to have a few drinks with out risking the unihibited eating; I don't know if that is even possible. I am only at the beginning of my journey and I am trying to find a balance between being too strict and getting carried away which seems to lead to rebeling and throwing it all away (which I seem to do) and then on the other hand, not keeping enough control and just completely eating whatever I want in any amount and therefore gaining. It's about balance and moderation, I just don't trust myself sometimes.
I did go out last night. I had 2 margaritas, and I did really good with the portion of my meal, with more than half left on my plate at the end. I normally would have had 3 or 4 drinks and cleaned my plate (plus I would have ordered a bigger meal than I did last night). Although I figure the calories were most likely close to 1000 (and I know it's bad to have that many at once) that still left me at around 1800 calories for the day. I do feel VERY bad about it, I have been beating myself up all day. I am an every day weigher too, and since this week has been fluxuating in a bad way anyway (went down til Wednesday then went back up), I felt really bad that I was the exact same as yesterday. I just need to let it go, I know, and do better today. I am very thankful for this site!!! It gives me support and also keeps me accountable. Thanks everyone!!! ;) |
Steph, good for you for having fun and keeping it moderate. Don't beat yourself, you did very well, just be consistant and everything will fall into place..

ugh - i had a tequilla binge last night. 2 beers and freak - some mikes hard lemonade. then the dorito's came out. But some of it came out later that night :)
haha - still a little hung over, but as I said in another post - school is starting this week, so I won't be drinking too too much anymore :) i hope! and of course after a night like last I always say, not for a long time! other than that foodwise - I didn't do too too badly - ok it wasn't great, or good. but yesterday is over. And I managed to get some stuff down today :) though I really craved a mcdonalds chicken pieces (something greasy for the stomache to feel better about) I did not! I had some onion soup and made some thin porkchop things (no bone, trimmed of fat). and lots of lettuce and some baked chicken nuggets for dinner. yeah tequila! |
Lizzbabe - I'm so going to try the Bacardi Apple Rum with Diet Rockstar! Thanks!
