Girl, you want shoppin tips, I recommend JCPenney, Cato's, Foley's, Sears, and Dillard's -- start at the CLEARANCE racks. Seriously! That's how I shop and everyone always asks me where I got my clothes, and I am 191 pounds. The only thing I've found that sucks being at this weight is that I can't even wear the smallest size clothes from the Avenue or Catherine's that I used to buy all the time and when I went in there after I lost some weight, they looked at me like, "Why are you in here? You're too small for our clothes..." But then I went to Foley's and some of the teenage girls that were in the junior section dressing room when I was trying some smaller size clothes on in my size looked at me like, "What's she doing in here? She's too fat for our clothes..." It's a no-win situation, but the 12/14 junior size clothes fit me perfectly, so I just paid no mind to what those girls in Foley's thought because I looked dead sexy in the clothes I wound up buying:D *LOL*

I find a lot of cute (pretty inexpensive) clothes at Old Navy and Target. I don't seem to have any luck at department stores because the cute clothes only go up to a size 13 or so and then everything that fits is suitable for a 70 year old woman at church.
My favorite dress that I've gotten recently was from NY & Co and my bathing suit that I love is from the Spiegel cataloge. When I was a little bit heavier I liked shopping at Lane Bryant because they had cute stuff, but like you guys have said, the plus sized clothing doesn't fit right if you don't have huge boobs. I think one of my non-scale goals is to be small enough to wear clothes from "regular" stores like Express or Gap. |
Chic~Yeah...the grass is always greener ;) I've been known to use a clothes iron to straighten my hair :D That's too cute....of course he is a real life pirate :)
Break~ I have heard really good stuff about Old Navy clothes. Next time I have some cash that's where I'm heading :D Sometimes I get lucky and find a cute shirt that fits right at Target. |
I really like NY & co.. I love there clothes. They are stylish and cute, fit pretty nice. but then again that store is always a hit or miss. Depends on the week I guess. Other than that, ohohoh I also love Kohls! I don't know if anyone has ever heard of them??

ugh old navy drives me nuts! all of their larger tops are HUGE on my boobs and shoulders...and they seem to think that all fat people are tall also...i tried on a pair of knee length size 18 capris there and they were almost to my ankles! and im NOT short! its like for it to fit around my waist it has to SAG everywhere else...lol im just gonna wait till i get to my goal before i go shopping!

I agree about old navy, and actually most of the clothes out there they just arn't proportioned for me. I can't wait until I can fit into clothes from a regular store.
The funny thing is that I have a small clothing line that I sell to boutiques and none of them will even buy XL they only want s-l. I have one store in DC who orders Xl so I always get about a dozen of each style made so that I can have some to fit me and I can ship some to that store. I tried to make cute hip clothes for bigger gals but no stores out there are wanting to sell them or at least I couldn't find them. |

jennie- what is the name of the line? where in DC? (i live here, so i am just curious)
thanks |
Leanne -- welcome, nice to see you on this board! Familiar faces are everywhere.
Jennie -- how did you go about starting your own clothing line? I have a dream of owning my own small business (not clothing) but I have absolutely no background in the area, so I'm curious about anyone who is doing their own business! |
hey Yume, the store in DC is called Pink November, its on 1231 U street. I've heard from people it is reallly cute and has nice stuff but very expensive. My stuff is kind of the lowest end in her shop. She gets tons of buisiness because she is always reordering. If you get a chance, check it out, my line is called ....edit.
Paperclippy, I had no back ground in business either, I just kind of took a dive. It hard work and a lot of hours but it pay off. |
hey, can we get a sticky over here? :)
