Ries! - I'm thrilled to see another challenge here! Thanks for creating it! I realize I do better when I've got a support system!

I've been MIA for a while because of moving and adjusting to life...summer ended, which means work starts up (I'm a substitute teacher). I've gained about 7lbs in the last two months and it took me two weeks to actually step on a scale. I decided to do it because I saw you made a challenge and I wanted to participate! Hoping to lose what I gained...working out religiously and eating well help me manage stress and anxiety, so I need that back in my routine. Now more than ever actually, as my father was just diagnosed with stage 4 Mesothelioma in his stomach. It was a huge shock and my family is devastated. I'm more adept at addressing life's hurdles when I'm healthy, so this is really important to me.

Here we go! Will be showing up often.

Doing well despite weird-strong cravings. I really should track these and see if there's a pattern. But usually if I outlast them, they just go away. I know from experience that giving in and eating is incredibly unhelpful (and even makes it worse).

On the plus side, I'm inching closer to the next decade! Of course, it's a zig-zag sort of inching, but it could be worse.

Rainbow: I am looking forward to the wedding for the most part, if only because all I have to do is show up and have a good time! And that book club sounds so fun! Books and wine and chatting about books = <3
I think your plan for your fancy 3 course meal (which sounds so fun, btw) is a good one. Enjoy it, but don't overindulge - excellent strategy!
I think exercise is helpful but not essential for weight loss. I kind of take it as it goes, too.

Charbreaker: Welcome to the challenge! I think eating well and working out are a great way to work with your anxiety, and you'll get healthier in the bargain!
I'm so sorry about your dad. I can't even imagine what you and your family are going through.

My burning mouth is almost all gone, which is good. And its at least not so bad where it is at the point I need to eat to quench it. But I have been stuck at 170/171 for over a week now. I need to do a better job in the evenings. I have discipline during the day, mostly, but then I am slipping in the evenings. It seems to happen to me often in the winter. Need to work on that. I think upping my protein and water and stopping just that one first handful of a snack! I just need some

Penny what kind of cravings are you getting? Are they after you eat carbs or sweets? I find if I have a bite of anything carby or sweet, I then can't stop!

Welcome charbreaker! I need to do a better job of using this support system when I am about to cheat. Thanks for reminding me how helpful this group can be

Hey guys!

So things have been looking up for me in life, I've got 3 editing projects on the go now which is fantastic. 1 of them is for a business; basically cutting up interviews and piecing them together for a presentation, 1 is a personal project for someone who's playing a gig of Christmas songs and wants Christmas cartoon footage to play in the back, and the other one is the documentary I talked about a couple of posts ago. As awesome as it is working from home, I need to do better about being strict about my routine. I've got a bad habit of getting up early to start the day then napping after breakfast...oops.

When I finally sort my drivers licence out (gonna try again on Monday with a new document, but might still have to drive into Denver on Wednesday if not - ugh) I'm gonna take up a Dance class. I've ALWAYS wanted to do dancing, I'm not good at it but I always have a blast when I try and learn a routine. I found a studio that does lessons, $10 for a drop in and $90 for 10 classes so I think I'll give hip hop class a try and then something called "groovalicious" which looks like "sexy" dancing you see in music videos. I'm ready for a new challenge since I've had to admit to myself that running just doesn't do it for me any more like it used to. I'll never officially hang up my running shoes, but I definitely want to focus on something else. I still love home workouts purely because I know worse case scenario and I can't go to a fancy class I still have something that will work me out just as much. Plus - if I'm going to be a freelancer working at home going to fitness classes might be my only chance to socialise!!

---------------------

rainbow - Mmm, I love Japanese food, I miss it so much. Karage!! That was a staple every time I went out with friends, haha. Such an easy go-to food. I hope the fancy meal is good! I always wonder if super fancy places are all that great...I know they must be, but it just seems obscene to spend so much on food in my opinion! Definitely make the most of it for free . Have you ever thought about doing yoga? The interviews I'm editing right now are all from fitness people, a lot of them say that all their aches and pains disappear after practicing yoga consistently. Sounds like your body really needs to unwind.

charbreaker - Welcome back! I'm glad to see you here again . I'm so sorry about your Dad, I can't imagine what you're going through. It's fantastic that you're focusing on your health in this time, I think it really will help you. *biiig hug* Looking forward to seeing you around.

Penny - I remember reading somewhere about cravings we have and why we have them - it's all down to your body telling you what you're lacking. Our minds will choose to make the connections to the foods we find most appealing - so if I need sugar my brain thinks "ooh, chocolate!" when really I should just eat an apple! Fingers crossed you see that new decade soon!

HDWD - I'm glad to hear your mouth is almost better, what a strange sensation that must be. What sort of things are you doing in the evenings? Is there a way to purge tempting foods from your cupboards? Downing a glass of water and waiting a while when feeling a snack attack coming on tends to help!

The cravings seem to be subsiding! Hallelujah! I knew they would. They always do. I just have to not let myself get talked into giving in beforehand. But boy, my craving-brain can be very persuasive.

Anyone have any ideas for easy, healthy dishes I could make and bring to Thanksgiving? Preferably something that travels easy and doesn't need too much work (I have a ~12 hour drive to family and friends).

HDWD: It's those cravings where all I want is food and a lot of it, no matter what it is (almost), though I'm not hungry. I also get the sweet/carb cravings, but these aren't those. The only solution is to not give in and wait until they go away.
I have worse control in the evenings, too. For me, the timing, composition, and size of my meal are key. I eat no more than 3-4 hours before bed, and it's my largest meal of the day. It helps me a lot.

Riestrella: Congrats on the editing work you've gotten! So exciting for you!
I think trying a dance class is an awesome idea. It can be a good workout! Trying new things when more familiar things aren't as interesting anymore is a healthy plan. Let us know how you like the dance classes!
Yeah, I've heard the theory that cravings=body needs, but for me, I've never found that to be true. They just stick around for a certain time, and then go away on their own. Nothing I eat fixes them (though NOT eating some things can help me avoid exacerbating them sometimes).

So far so good, didn't work out yesterday but ate well and didn't cheat! Did the stairmaster and then went to Zumba class this morning! Feeling good (which is the best way for me to cut cravings!) and hope to keep it up.

Ries- Thanks for the kind words, friend. I'll be following your vlog! And also, I was thinking about taking up a dance class too! Except, I was considering ballet. I did it for a few months as a child but then switched to tap. I'm not terribly graceful but I think it would be a nice change.

HDWD- It's amazing how motivating it is to have the group behind me. My outlook has transformed in the last two days since I've returned to 3FC. Full proponent of this and happy you're here! I know the feeling about the cravings too! I seem to slip up in the evening too and sometimes it seems like I can't stop myself, but I'm trying to teach myself that my willpower is enough for me to say no. Still learning, of course.

Penny - Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. This is only my second day here and I feel considerably better. These challenges work wonders for me! Good luck with the cravings, I'm fighting them too. :-) But you're right, they never feel better when we give in. And it makes me crave more!

Good luck guys, hope today goes well for all of you!

Oh yay! I was hoping to find this challenge when I wondered back to this forum. I joined a gym's 6 week challenge at the beginning of this month, which perfectly coincides with this one!
I put in what I *think* are my correct stats, but I will double check at the gym tomorrow. (I tried not to hear the number they told me when I first weighed in, because I gained back all the weight I had lost previously and then some Still need to update my ticker as well. Yikes.)

I actually think I hit the very biggest I've ever been at the beginning of this month.. but luckily I have already started working it off!! Just keep swimming!

Hey guys,

Working at the BF's office today, unfortunately a lot of the work I was supposed to do today had to be pushed back. I was going to be printing a tonne of FedEx labels for packages but the date that we want to ship it isn't available online yet since it's too far in advance. Annoying since I'll have to come back in next Saturday to do it, but oh well, I got some work done this morning. I also finished watching the interviews that I need to edit for 1 project, which took me a total of 10 hours, phew. At least it's all on the clock and I'm getting paid

Tonight we're going out to eat again at a Tapas place, we ate out at a brewery/burger place last night. Weight is 164.0 lbs but been weighing in at 163 lbs this week so that's my official weight. I'm on target for the challenge, but will need to step it up for next week if I want to get down to 162 lbs. Need to workout, I haven't done so in a week!! I've been focused on my eating while I've been so busy with work though.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

--------------------------------------

Penny - Well done on beating the cravings. Nope, no ideas on a dish that would survive that long! I was going to say roast vegetables though...that's going to be my contribution to Thanksgiving this year!

charbreaker - Thanks for the follow! And great job on being so active. Have you heard of barre class? I think that's how you spell it. It's like an aerobic ballet class. It has no dance involved, but it reminded me of it when you said ballet!

Kay - Welcome back! Great job on hitting up the workouts, say goodbye to that heaviest weight!

Sorry guys, it's been a little while!

Rainbow- hope the fancy dinner was awesome, I love doing stuff like that, especially when it's free!

charbreaker- Welcome! A challenge like this is a great way to turn things around when you've been heading in the right direction So sorry to hear about your dad, hope you are getting some time in your busy school schedule to spend with your family!

Penny- nice job on being strong against the cravings! That's usually my downfall, especially when I am bored... If I were traveling 12 hours to thanksgiving i would probably just try to bring an app, like crackers with a cheese dip or something simple to throw together.

Kay7jay- Welcome! What is the challenge at the gym?

Ries- Aahh the places you guys go out to eat always sound so delicious! Lol. Good luck with all of those projects! It's interesting to read about your work, my sister and her bf are in the film industry in LA but would love to move here if they could get work. Do you think there is a decent market for people in film around Denver?

Well this week wasn't too bad for me, nothing too earth shattering, just slow and steady! I have a cold which helps me with food I guess because nothing seems too appealing when I can't breath while eating lol! But I'm also not hitting it as hard at the gym but I guess that's ok. I saw 130.6 on Friday (seems like Friday is always my lowest day, before letting lose over the weekend!), hoping I'll get to see the 120's at some point this week!

So the big thing going on in my life right now is that I am in the process of buying a house. The closing has been pushed back several times from mid-October, now is set for 11/23 because they have had a hard time getting a permit from the city to build a garage which was a part of my offer. Last week they said they were getting the permit very soon so it was looking like it would be fine to close the 23rd, but I just drove by the house yesterday and they haven't started on the garage. So I'm getting super nervous we will have to push back again. Right now it works out perfectly so that I will move over thanksgiving weekend- I have a 5 day weekend AND my mom and sister are coming to town to help. So it will be annoying if I can't do it then, not to mention that my current lease ends on 12/1 so I will be homeless if I can't close soon!

Ah shiz, I forgot to weigh in this morning. I already ate breakfast! I'm sure it wasn't great though, I had a root beer from a brewery and a pumpkin spice soda from a different brewery and some nibbles for dinner last night. It was from a vegetarian place, so it was all home made pizza slices, fries, hummus/pita etc. It was a good night though! Lots of laughs. I woke up super early (for me!) yesterday, like at 5:50 am because my BF's boss's daughter is having a baby and wanted him to send out an email to announce the labor. Thankfully now he doesn't have to worry about getting a phone call on his days off.

Today I'm gonna Skype with my best friend in England, we end up chatting for like 2 hours so that'll be fun. Then we're heading into Denver to watch The Assassin at the Mayan, it looks like an awesome theater so I'm excited! Looking forward to making the charts tomorrow Get this weeks weights in today!

---------------

Tiny - Short answer: no. The Colorado film industry is really closed off, I feel that people here want to make films in Colorado, about Colorado FOR Colorado, rather than making great films for everyone. It feels very much like an exclusive club rather than an industry if that makes sense. We're actually here temporarily, we're living with my BF's parents while we save then we're moving down south to Austin, TX. It has a thriving film industry there and a lot of big productions film outside of LA/NY because it's cheaper. I know multiple people in film living in NY who said if they left NY they'd head straight to Austin. We're like the opposite with colds, I just want to eat everything because I get so drained! Good luck with the house! Could you not move in and oversee the garage build yourself worse case scenario?

I put my reading in a little early this week. It seems I've maintained yet again which is better than nothing I guess. I haven't been working out apart from plenty of walking as part of my commute but knowing that I have to report to you guys helps me keep control of my portions

I'm a little bit late so my personals extend back a few posts!

Rie - I saw Spectre too. Not too impressed either. What a pain in the **** about the diving licence bureaucracy! What is an insanity workout? I had a look online but I couldn't quite figure out which one to go for. Do you recommend any? Well done on your editing projects!

I've also thought about dance classes too but I think I would prefer something like tango or salsa.

Charbreaker - Welcome! I'm sure that being in the classroom will get you moving again! So sorry to hear about your dad

Havedog - I'm glad your mouth is better!

Tinytiger - Buying a house can be so stressful. I hope that you can get it sorted out as soon as possible. These things always take longer than you think. Is there no way to move in before the garage is done and have it done afterwards?

The wedding went well and my eating was on point (hooray!). I ate about half the dinner (which was pretty healthy anyway), and then had a glass of wine and a cake pop for dessert. Then I stopped eating and danced! I count this one as a win, because before I have struggled hard core with staying on plan during non-routine eating.

Riestrella: Awesome job being on target for this challenge! Keep up the good work!
Also, have a great time chatting with your friend! Isn't Skype great?

Tiny Tiger: Thanks! It certainly won't be the last time they come around. Maybe it's forever, I don't know. We'll have to see.
Bringing an app sounds like a good idea. Easy and won't need kitchen space.
You're so close to the 120s! Wow!
And good luck with the whole house purchase. Sounds stressful with everything else you have going on, but you sound like a very capable person.

Weighed in today at 142.8! After starting the week off poorly, any loss I'll take!
Pushed harder at the gym today; only 25 minutes of cardio but it was HIIT and I did full body weight training before that for an hour. Felt good getting stress out and getting strong! And there's this hot trainer at the gym and he said goodbye to me. Which isn't a big deal. But on top of the endorphins from my workout it was like the cherry on top (not to mention, he was working out before that and *fans self* wow)! So today has been a really good day! Fingers crossed tomorrow is good too. Back to teach the rugrats tomorrow!

Thanks for the kind words Tiny Tiger and Nanu. Much appreciated.

Ries- OMG I was at the Mayan yesterday too! We went to see Room. That's kinda what I thought as far as the film industry here. Maybe they'd move to Austin. My sister is just not an LA kind of girl, I know she'd love to get out of there.

Penny- Sounds like you did great with the wedding!

Char- Wow, supper intense workout! Good for you!

I wish I could just move in and have them do the garage later, you'd think that would be fine but apparently I need to have it built so it can be appraised and i can be approved for the mortgage. If they don't have the permit at this point though I think I'm going to push for that bc otherwise I'm gonna be screwed moving-wise.

Yikes another week of challenge and I am still stuck. I am determined next week to enter a 169! Trying to up the water and the cardio!

My burning mouth syndrome seems to have gone away THANK GOD. Still want to pinpoint what triggered it by trying some of the things I cut out, but also don't want to trigger another 2 week bout!

charbreaker Loved to read about how you are getting in a great workout and enjoying it!

tinytiger good luck with the house stuff, I have a couple friends and family members buying/selling houses and it is such an ordeal! We are still in our first house we bought and it makes me want to never try and sell it and buy another one...so many moving parts...no pun intended!
