Birth Control

Anyone had the Mirena IUD and had trouble losing weight with it? I was about 185 when I had it put in June 2013. I was 6 weeks post partum and had been losing weight rapidly. My weight loss slowed dramatically once I had it in and since then I have put on about 30 lbs. I know that some of it was bad choices in eating, but I've been religiously following WW now for a month and am almost done with the Advocare 24 day challenge and have barely lost anything. At any other time in my life, I've been able to drop 15 lbs in the first 2-3 weeks of Weight Watchers and it's really hard to stay motivated when nothing is working. I have an appointment Monday to get my Mirena removed. We will be using some non-hormonal birth control options. I refuse to get pregnant at this weight. Pregnancy is hard enough when I've been only slightly overweight to begin.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I have found other people on forums all over the internet having experienced this, but I want to find someone who I can actually communicate with about it. Please let me know if you have had this experience with the Mirena and if you got it removed, were you able to lose weight? I love the Mirena otherwise. I hope I'm not giving it up for nothing.

I got my IUD just over a year ago and have lost about 30 pounds since, so for me, not, it has not had that affect.

What I have read about birth control is that for most people who experience weight gain, it's only for the first few months and then the hormones level off. However, many people continue to blame the birth control for inability to lose weight when in actuality their diet is the problem.

I'd highly suggest you talk to your doctor.

I've had the IUD since October and while I've been struggling to lose weight, I know it's because of eating habits and falling out of my exercise schedule. I haven't had a child, however, so I'm not sure how the hormones would impact you post-partum.

I will say that I noticed some depression issues with it that weren't happening prior to the IUD (I have the Skyla).

Well, I have had my IUD out now since last Monday (11 days) and I am happy to report that without changing anything else, I have already lost 6.2 lbs. I feel a lot better and now have more confidence in the fact that I CAN do this!

I joined this thread because of weight gain due to the BCP. Not the same as the IUD but still. Just needed to vent! So frustrating...
Anyone who has gone off it, how long until your metabolism/hormones went back to normal? So demoralising.

I didn't have an IUD, but I was on continuous BC (1 period a year) and I could not lose weight. It was not diet related either, I finished a perfect whole 30 and lost 2 pounds off of a 275 pound frame. I cant lose while breast feeding and I cant lose while on BC.
I was on the pills again late last year and into this year and was having similar issues so I got off of them again. I just went back to temp charting and using spermicide on my "maybe" days and abstinence at the first sign of fertility.

I have a copper IUD. Since it's non-hormonal, it doesn't affect my weight. Highly recommended.
