Default I'm sad. So I ate. And I'm kind of okay with that.

Hi everyone,

Kind of a sad post today, but I wanted to share an emotional eating episode that I'm surprisingly okay with.
I had an emotional day and ate my emotions when I got home. The thing that's different this time is that since I allowed myself to eat and because I knew why, ends up I didn't eat as much as I thought I would.

Food is comforting and I think that's okay (gasp!). To admit that and be at peace with it really helped, I think!

What do you guys think?

Take care

I"m not in my 20's so I hope it's ok if I post a response. Losing weight is so much about our state of mind. Getting upset about something we eat usually causes more negative emotions and more overeating. Sounds to me like you're developing a healthier relationship with food. That said, I don't think turning to food for comfort is as ideal as maybe going for a walk or taking a bubble bath, but it does happen..even to people who don't struggle with their weights. They just move on and so are you, so I think that's some good progress.

You asked me what I think, so here goes.

It's not a problem as long as you are not sad every day or even most days and decide to eat your emotions because of it.

I will treat myself to an icecream if I have a bad day. Like when my dust caps became rusted to the valve stems on my car and I had to pay $700 to get them fixed.

But icecream once a month is very different to icecream every day.

It's all about balance and averages.

luckymommy I don't think you have to be in your 20s to post but should have posted elsewhere anyway!
Thanks you, it was really encouraging to read your comment. I thought of healthier alternatives but to be honest, I really didn't feel like sucking it up.
That doesn't mean that I'll always do that, especially since I'm serious about weight loss, but I'm glad that I accepted for once that I just wanted to eat something.

IanG I'm thankfully not sad everyday, haha! And when I'm sad, I don't always deal by eating. I was just happy to see that I finally didn't feel guilty about being emotional and wanting to eat.

muguet, overcoming negative emotions when it comes to food is a huge milestone. I'm glad you didn't have guilt and I'm even happier to hear that this type of eating happens on rare occasions. Sounds like a perfect balance!

luckymommy thanks, I'm really happy too because they sure did happen more often before! I'm most definitely still working on it but it's a great feeling not to feel shameful.
