July Exercise log
It's a new month SO....it's time for a new exercise log!! Ready set GO...on those goals!! We can do it!!!
|
I ran 2 miles today!! I can hardly believe it. When I started training for this tri I couldn't make it a mile!! Now I'm up to 2 miles! And the tri is still about a month away. If I can make it up to 4 miles this month, I'll be SO excited!!! I have to run 3.1 for the Sprint Tri...I think I can, I think I can. Anyway....tomorrow is most likely a swimming day!
Today felt sort of like a swimming day. It was raining, but I'm tired of using the rain as an excuse not to exercise so I went out running in it. I had SO much fun splashing through the puddles as I ran. My feet definitely didn't get hot. :) I felt like a kid just out playing a lot of the run. It was great!! I hope everyone else's day is going well. Betty |
I walked 2 miles today!!! :D

July Exercise Goals
Hello ladies,
I'm up for the July exercise Challenge! My goals: - exercise 3X per week - continue my new longer walk to work (40 minutes each way - uphill in the morning! :p) - include toning in my gym days (1 day arms, 1 day abs, 1 day legs) SAPF, hope that you enjoyed your nice long walk! I went for a great walk by the river on Saturday...the weather was so beautiful here. Hope that you had similar conditions! Betty - when is your triathalon? That is amazing! A friend of mine ran in a marathon last spring, and I was thinking of trying to train for a mini-charity marathon in the fall. I have been exercising and improving my fitness level for the last 6 months or so. How long have you been training for the triathalon? You'll have to let us know how it goes! Kris 261-186-155 |
I'm in!!! So far no exercise just yet but hopefully I will get some in today!! Good to see this thread keeps coming back!
|
Kris,
Thanks! My tri is July 27th!! It's not a long tri. It's just 660 meters swimming, 13 miles on the bike and 3.1 miles running. I've been training for it, for slightly over a month. :) One of my good friends encouraged me to do it. He's the guy that when I say I'm going to do something he pushes me to truly follow through...usually without saying much, but he just expects that when his friends say they will do something even if it's a personal goal they will do it. So I mentioned the Tri idea to him, I think it was one of the days he was reminding me the importance of breakfast. Anyway...he said he thought it was a wonderful idea. I had no idea where to begin...but I did begin just started jogging, then got myself an inexpensive bike from Kmart, and contacted someone in town about using the local pool early in the AM for swimming to train. One of the guys in town who does tri's has a key to the pool so I swim with him and a couple of guys early in the morning on the days we do that. And here I am a month later!! :) I think that your idea of training for a mini-Marathon this fall is a WONDERFUL idea. How long is the mini-Marathon? When would it be? Betty |
Hello,
Welcome back Jess! Do you have a specific exercise plan that you are following in July? Hopefully this month will be a bit easier for you time-wise now that you are out of school...I looked at your web-site....you have made amazing progress with your weigh loss! You must be so proud of yourself! Congratulations. Betty - Wow! That guy sounds like a good friend! Good for you for following through with that plan. I was really thinking about a fun-run that I WALK every fall to raise $$ for cancer research. For me it is like a marathon! It is really 10km...which I think works out to about 7 miles. :) The run is mid-September, so I should have time to get in a bit of outside running. I'm just a bit unsure of where to start. I think that I will look around a bit on the Internet and see if I can find some ideas. :o I am very open to suggestions from everyone on the boards, too! Thanks for the bit of inspiration Betty! Let me know how your triathalon goes! Won't it be great to be able to say that you have completed a triathalon?! Kris 261-186-155 |
Hey Jess....glad to see that you are in for the July Exercise too.
Such A Pretty Face...GREAT Job on the walking. Kris-- The fun run idea sounds like a great plan! I think a 10k is actually 6.2 miles. I just know you can do it!!! I'm going to work my way up to that one of these days. :) I will definitely look around for ideas as to how to help you start with the running. Some places I've seen have suggested starting with a walking/jogging combo...and I do think that's the best way to go. Let me know what you decide to do...and I'll look to see what I can find to help too. :) How smart to have started early on thinking and planning for the Fun Run in Sept! That is great!! I will definitely let you know how the Triathlon goes!!! Yes it is going to be SO great to be able to say that I've finished one. I'm so excited about it. I can hardly believe this is real!! I biked about 6 miles (or so) this evening. I had to stop b/c it got too dark. I've not heard back from my swimming buddy so I'm not sure if I am swimming in the AM...if not then tomorrow is another jogging day...time will tell. :) I hope everyone else is having a great day too! Betty |
I ran 2 miles again today. This time was 7 minutes faster than on Tuesday!!! Wow! Talk about a wonderful surprise when I got home and discovered that!!! Tomorrow is a biking day.
Have a wonderful 4th of July tomorrow to all of you in Amercia!! Betty |
Biked 10 miles this morning!!
|
Hey! It's me again!! I upped my mileage today. I went 2.3 miles and amazingly enough I did it in the same amount of time that it took me to run 2 miles four days ago!! I'm really excited about that!!
Betty |
I have been trying to ride my bike to work and back everyday. it takes 40 mins to get there and 40 back.
I got one of those exercise balls recently. this month i'd like to use it..haha And lastly i really think cardio is best thing, so i want to try and do my cadio video that i used to do in highschool 3 times a week. |
Becca,
I think that's an excellent goal that you want to try to do the exercise video from HS 3x a week...and Exercise balls are cool. I used one for a while!! Welcome!! I biked 6 miles today and jogged 1. I was working on my transitions from biking to running...talk about rubbery feelings legs the first part of that mile I was running...thankfully they improved as I ran. :) Betty |
Hello all,
Really need to get back into the exercise...have been away from the gym for nearly 3 weeks! I managed to gain 2 pounds last month. Not the direction I was hoping for! On the plus side - I have continued to keep my two 30-40 minute walks up. Betty - I looked up the information on starting to run. I think that I am going to aim for a mix run/walk program. I am posting the link, just in case you (or anybody else) is interested. This site actually has some really great information on all types of exercises. I have used the toning section in the past to help develop a gym routine. They use video to demonstrate the exercises, which I find helpful. http://ford4women.chatelaine.com/run...ure/index.html There are still 3 weeks left in July - here's hoping that I can pull it together! Hoora! Good luck to all.... Kris 261-188-155 |
I've been doing something for a while everymorning when i get out of bed. and this morning i really got to thinking wow this is great exercise! and i never thought about it that way b4.
So. i think i'd like to challenge everyone to put on your fav. song in the morning and dance around in your underwear (jammas) It really starts the day out well for me :p |
Becca,
That's a WONDERFUL idea!! I'm up for the dancing challenge!! Sounds like a wonderful way to start the day!!! Kris...Good job on finding the walk/run program! I am SO sorry I didn't get back to you on that...I totally forgot until I just saw your message!! I am confident you will get back to the gym. Would you believe that I am actually beginning to enjoy running? I never thought I would say those words?!?! What has happened to me. ;-) Yesterday I swam 2000 meters (about 350 meters more than a mile)...in other words about 1.2 miles...slightly more than that. :) This evening I felt SO sluggish! I do my swims at 5:30-6:30 in the morning and I hadn't exercised all day. So I went for a run this evening. I ran about 2.6 miles!! WOW!! I can hardly believe that!!! Granted I was hot, but I could have kept going that was the incredible part about this!! I'm guessing exercise is really becoming a daily part of my life. I hope that y'all both are having wonderful days!! Just think we are in the heat of summer and sticking with this stuff...yeah us!! Okay...talk to y'all tomorrow... Betty |
I swam 1900 meters this morning in the pool.
|
Wow Betty! I am drawing some exercise inspiration from you! I hope that i too can one day say that I enjoy going for a run/to the gym/insert favourite exercise here! I know that I do miss exercising if I don't go...not because I miss the exercise specifically, but because I miss the feeling of accomplishment and pride afterwards. I find that I feel a bit sluggish if I don't exercise....I at least HAVE to get a walk in everyday!
Becca - that does sound like a great way to start the morning! I have renewed my gym membership for the rest of July, and I am off to the gym after work! Hooray! Kris 261-188-155 |
6 mile bike ride this evening!!
Kris, I know what you mean about the sluggish feeling. And good for you on walking every day!! How's the walk/run program going? How was the gym? Betty |
Hello ladies,
Went to the gym on Thursday night again....did 8 miles on the elliptical trainer! Gave me a bit of hope that I might actually be able to jog the 10K in the fall! I am planning to do one more week on the elliptical, then move to the treadmill and progress to the pavement...I'll see how it goes. Still not a huge fan of the gym...but seriously love the rush afterwards! Makes me feel like I can reach my goal weight. I also find that I try to be a bit more careful about what I eat when I work out. No sense wasting all of that hard work!! Hope that everyone is having great success with their exercise goals this month! I am off to the gym after work today... Take care, Kris 261-188-155 |
Kris! That is AWESOME about the 8 miles on the elliptical trainer!! Way to go! You will be able to do the fun run in the Fall... I just know that you will. :) My week hasn't been so hot for exercise and such. I plan to get back on the program tomorrow with the swim. I am headed out of town on Friday, but I'm determined to train the weekend away despite my out of town voyage. Yay!!!
Betty |
Whoops!
Hello all,
Apparently the elliptical machine at the gym is a liar!! :p No way have I done 8 miles! It tried the treadmill yesterday and couldn't get through 2 miles! YIKES! :o Seems like I have a lot of work to do to be able to run 10K. I am thinking of revising my plan....There is also a "Fun Run" category, and I think that I have the option of doing just 5K. This seems more reasonable for me....because quite frankly - I am a terrible runner! :dizzy: I seem to have quite an awkward gate when I run....Seemed to start easing into an easier running style by the end of my workout yesterday. You seem to have to land on your heels a bit more....I think that I was trying to run on the balls of my feet (ouch!). I'll see how it goes....:dizzy: Last night was a very humbling experience! Have a good time on your weekend away Betty! Guess that next weekend must be the triathalon! V. exciting! :D Keep moving everybody! Kris 261-188-155 |
Hello ladies,
Am off for a walk today... Think that I overdid it on my first time running. I will be using the elliptical again tomorrow. Will try to follow the running program (1 min walk, 1 min run) on Thursday night, but I have to give my poor knees a rest! Went to Montréal this weekend and got a lot of walking in, but I was still sore from running last Thursday. Note to self: EASE into running! Ms. Hotshot had to run continually right out of the gate! Guess there is a reason that you are supposed to ease into a running program. I am OK for the cardio - but my body can't take the jarring. :( Will try again though! Hope that the exercise is going alright for everybody else! Kris 261-188-155 |
Hey Kris,
Hang in there...you are right easing into the running is definitely the way to go....it's too rough on your body is you try to get going with the running too quickly. Can't begin to count the number of times I've messed that up myself...but following the 1 minute running 1 minute walking sounds good and before you know it you will be running non-stop. Betty |
Thanks for the encouragement Betty! Glad to hear I'm not the only one to overdo it when trying to learn to run! I always tend to overdo it a bit - I am anxious to make my exercise time really count, which is the wrong approach. Apparently a fast walk has the same exercise benefits as jogging. Guess that I will just have to keep reminding myself of that as I work up to a longer jog! I'm not very patient about it, though!
How's the training for the triathalon going? Did you manage to get out while you were away this past weekend? So difficult to stick to an exercise routine while you are away. Kris 261-188-155 |
Good luck Betty!
Hi Betty,
I think that this weekend is your triathalon....just wanted to wish you well. Let us know how it goes! Kris 261-188-155 |
Not a good month!! I lost 7 pounds at the beginning on my Atkins induction. After that I have held the weight loss but haven't lost anymore. However, I was VERY bad the last week...ate everything in site. I need to jump back on the right track. My exercising wasn't that good and I almost hit the 10lb mark for the end of the month. If I lose 7 more every month until October the sister-in-law's wedding will be great. That would equal 30lbs since June!! That's the goal...
Can't wait to start the August goals to get me pumped up more!!! I already have my goals! |
Golfergirl - I know how you feel. I lost a pound.. but now I'm sorta stuck .. can't wait to get back into the swing of things. However, I feel like I have been at this weight so long.. that I wont ever lose anymore.
Can't wait for August. |
Wedding date....Tonic....so when are you thinking?? I have my sister-in-law's wedding (where I am doing more work than at my own) in October and that is what started the whole weight loss!!! Everyone in it is tiny except 2 of us (and we're not that big, but larger than the other's size 4-8) and we decided that we would order the dress to small and it would make us...it has, she has lost about 40 pounds and now the dress is too big. And I have lost about 15 and the dress is perfect. So...that's still the motivation. Mine's still a 14 and the others are still smaller........
August will be a great month for geting back into it. |
Golfergirl - Not sure.. I am trying to find the happy balance of finishing school and getting married. I am thinking August 2004, Fall 2004, or early Summer 2005. Thats a lot of dates to choose from though :) My fiancee is not graduating until Dec. 2004, I graduate Summer 2004.
I hope your sister-in-law has a great wedding. We want pictures of you in your dress! You are doing great on your weightloss!! |
Thanks Tonic...I will post pictures of me in the dress. I was at about 165 October when I got married and then cooking for 2 and eating when he ate instead of when I was hungry resulted in me gaining a lot quickly!! Besides when I lived alone I spent a lot of time exercising and walking!!! So, I am paying for it now...
If I were you I would do the Fall 2004 or Summer 2005. Don't try to plan anything while your still in school and depending on how much your FI wants to help you may want to wait until he's done too... if you have any questions with planning let me know. My mother-in-law and a few of us do a rental wedding thing so we help lots of people plan low-budget weddings. Unless you have a lots of money to spend...then just have fun!! :-) I am hoping the weight loss will go better SOON!!! But it's a great start I realize I don't have that much to lose really, I just have to consistently lose and exercise more... You've done great...You are where I really want to be so hope I will be joining you soon. How did you lose your weight??? |
First, exercise update: I worked out last night! I got in 45+ minutes of cardio and did 100 situps. No weights though.
Golfergirl - I totally understand how easy it is to gain weight. So much easier to gain then lose :) My fiancee and I talked about it last night and decided there is no good time for us to get married ;) We worked out a list of pros and cons for each of the possible wedding dates and are leaning towards August 28, 2004. Thats 4 weeks after I finish school.. and before he is done. Reasons to do it then are mainly because we have had big plans to go backpacking in europe after we graduate.. and I would rather not do that before our wedding and I dont really think thats the kinda honeymoon I want. Plus other reasons. But I really wasnt sure I wanted to plan this thing remotely or while I was in school.. but even when I do graduate in August 2004, I still will be writing some papers for conferences... so its never really ends :) I will probably hit you up with my wedding questions :) You might be sorry you offered! heheh.. just kidding :) So to answer your question on how I lost the weight.. I think it was a combination of things. First, you have to really be ready to lose the weight and realize that you are in total control and you have the power to lose. It sounds like you have already discovered this... so you are doing really well! So once I figured that out and realized how great it felt to be in control, I started exercising 5 days a week for about 45 minutes run/walk on the treadmill and lifting weights and doing situps. I also changed my diet. I switched to diet coke (that made a big change) and also did low carb for awhile. I lost the most doing low carb (induction), but I am not a meat lover so it became hard really fast for me. I also love bread. So I would do low carb for awhile.. then do low fat.. then switch back. So thats pretty much all I did. Oh, and I also kept track of my exercise.. I never counted calories really. If I recall.. you are doing low carb. I hope you have success with it. I think it depends on your body chemistry if it works for you or not. Thats why some have success and some don't. Let me know how it goes though :) |
