Gained it all back
Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello... been a member here quite a while... but though I've been yo-yo-ing for years since I initially hit my goal weight in 2005, I have finally gained back nearly all 60 pounds that I initially lost :( Now I'm back, with only 2 days of dieting under my belt, and hoping to take it off for good!! |
Welcome back! I was pretty active on here for awhile but then I slipped off and gained everything back (37lbs, plus 8 extra). I'm also back hoping to take it off for good!
Good luck! You can do this! |
Add me to the same list! You are not alone. I have gained and lost the same 30-50 pounds at least 3 or 4 times since I joined in 2006.
We can do it! |
I gained back and am trying to lose too! Good luck.
|
Well... I gave myself a year (starting July 1, 2012) to lose weight and after losing 50 pounds, I had started gaining the weight back... I gained back 10 pounds so far and I am freaking out because I have been here before -- five years ago I lost 40 pounds for my wedding and then gained back 65!
Anyway, I want to stop this downward spiral here and now (before I go all the way back), lose the 10 pounds I'd gained and continue losing the rest of it. Good Luck to us all!!!!! |
I've gained and lost the same 20 pounds about 5 times now. :-/
I'm working to lose for good. |
Same boat! Gained back the kg's I lost, with some extra! Starting to freak out that the scale keeps going up despite my continued desire for it to go down. Anyone got any tips for getting started again? I'm struggling to figure out how to get my weight loss started :(
|
Thanks for all the welcomes! Good to know I'm not alone in this... it feels SO horrible... like, when I first lost the 60 pounds I felt incredible, and if you had told me that I'd put it back on within 5 years or so I would never have believed it... how could I let it go so far?
Well to tell the truth I know exactly how I let it go so far... I had already gained about 25 pounds and then had a really bad breakup and that fueled the weight gain... in fact my gaining weight was part of the reason he broke up with me (very screwed up guy, I'm glad to be rid of him after 5 years of that)... anyway, I kept gaining afterwards because I was miserable anyway, and it just got out of control. Now I'm with someone new-- who loves me as I am now, and is happy that I'm happy about getting back on a diet, but doesn't just love me for my body-- and I feel like everything is coming together for me :) As for motivation for those trying to get back on track... I really had to hit the point where my weight was making me TOTALLY MISERABLE, every day, no matter where I was or what I was doing, if I caught a glimpse of myself I got very sad. I decided I can't live with that misery for another minute longer than I have to, so the sooner I stop the eating madness the sooner I'll get back to where I want to be. It took a lot of reflection and tantrum-throwing, but I finally got with it |
I've also lost the same 20 pounds a zillion times. I want this to be the LAST time!
Good luck, ladies! |
Don't feel bad.I'm in the same boat. I had gotten up to 70lbs lost now have gained back 30.It hurts but all one can do is start a new.
|
I done the same thing last year I had lost 25lbs. Then my grandmother died. I got off my diet and gained all the weight back. Now it is time for me to start over.
|
Same here! Over the past year I lost 50 lbs. I hit my goal in February, and then went through a bad break up...started binge eating sugary junk. Since February, I've gained 7 lbs back. I'm newly motivated though and ready to get off the 7 lbs before it turns into 10 and then 15...I wanna catch it early before it really spirals out of control.
The first step was weighing myself today. The next steps are counting calories and cutting out junk. I can do this! In addition, I have changed my ultimate goal weight to 135...seeing that number would bring me such joy. |
I did the same thing, don't feel bad, it happens to a lot of people! I weighed 140 until age 18, when I hit 160. I lost 30 pounds, got into a relationship with a crappy guy, and promptly began to gain 50 pounds. I've taken almost all 50 off but it took two years (I slowed down after the first year). However, I've been maintaining for a lot longer than I did back then. I beat my record - only several months back then - by a long shot so I think I learned from it and you can, too!
|
I'm in the same boat. I've gained 12 lbs back in 2 months it's time to kick it into gear and lose that weight!
|
Yup. I gained back all 25lbs I lost last fall when I got into bread baking and was finishing up my last semester at uni. The good thing is, it's coming off a bit easier as I wasn't carrying it for 2 years, just 4 months.
|
I also lost and gained back ~35 pounds (TWICE) and restarted just about a month ago. It sucks, but it happens! All we can do is hop back on the wagon and promise ourselves that this will be the last time!
|
Welcome back! I had reached my goal weight range near the end of Summer 2011 of 185-190 and started slowly but surely gaining it all back near the end of 2012. I have gained over half of the weight I have lost, but I am back on track and making lifestyle changes that will stick this time, and I have learned sooooo much, especially being on this board! Glad you are here, and you are definitely not alone!

I stepped on the scale yesterday and saw that I am back up to 218. That's almost my highest weight (220). I almost started crying. Especially since I haven't really been overeating lately and have been fairly active. I can see if I hadn't lost any weight, but I honestly don't understand why I have gained.
|
Don't be to hard on yourself. As you can see from all the replies it really does happen to a lot of us. I to suffer from the losing and gaining of weight. I reached my goal of 130 by Dec 2011. I am now back up to my starting weight of 180lbs and am 3 days in to starting over. I think that everyone shines such a bright light on the weight loss side of things but don't really talk about how hard it is to maintain after. I just wasn't prepared for it lol
Welcome back! We can do this! |
Count me in this group - I lost 25lbs with Ideal Protein to look great in my wedding dress...then gained all this "happy" weight back enjoying food way too much post wedding! I am here now to get support and give support. We can all do it - what counts is that we're back and trying again right?

Please know that my next questions are purely out of curiosity (and fear) and in no way are intended to be derogatory. I am new at this and know that gaining back weight is a serious concern when embarking on a program such as IP.
Any thoughts on what may have led to the weight gain and on how to avoid it happening again? Did you stop following the plan? Lose the support? |
Personally, it started with skipping one workout. Eating seconds. Not counting calories. Just doing the complete opposite what I knew I should've done.
|
i'm just wondering, do any of you do like home workouts and don't go to the actual gym? and if yes what do you do ?
|
Hi all,
I too have regained about 35 lbs of the 97 that I had lost...trying to get back to what I know works before I regain any more. Could definitely use the support of you lovely ladies. Last time I was losing, I know this site helped A LOT! even though I never posted myself. This time, I'm going to be more active in posting b/c I know how much it helps! |
I gained every ounce of the 65 lbs I lost. Over a year. Mostly due to an injury (had to stop exercising and ate bc I felt sorry for myself). I've re-lost 14 of those so far. Wish I had started earlier bc I feel too fat to wear my summer clothes! This time I will pay more attention to maintenance!!

It never ends
I've been on this roller coaster ride for far too long. I did Nutrisystem for a while and lost like 15 -18 pounds. Got to 198 was the lowest. But it became too expensive and I tired of the same food. Then my fiance and I bought a house that needed work, so we stopped the gym and worked on the house. That's when the weight came back on plus because the kitchen was being worked on and we had to eat fast food a lot.
One year later and I teeter between 216 and 211. I went to my gyno since I was having problems and found out I am in menopause at 47 due to my hysterectomy 20 years ago. Great! Now I have to deal with menopause weight gain too? I gave up all white foods about 3 weeks ago and haven't really seen any movement on the scale. We had to give up the gym due to the cost and I try to walk everyday at the local park, but it's been too hot. I have a Wii Zumba and know I should do that when I can't walk, but I'm just too tired. We are film makers and we have full time jobs. We're trying to get our business off the ground and work lots of hours on the weekend. I am just so frustrated with my weight. I know putting more exercise into my life to match the changes in my diet will help...but AAAGH! Thanks for letting me vent. :) |
Hahaha, it seems I'm not as alone in that as I thought I was! Just like you and most of the ladies who have posted since, I lost about 70 pounds back in 2006; maintained for about 2 years; and then gained it all back. Plus some. I ended up weighing more this time than I did when I first lost all the weight. It sucks!
But we can't give up! You seem to have the right kind of motivation and know-how. We just have to stick to it because, well, if we don't then we'll wish we had. I hate regret. We can do this. :) |
I agree!!!! We can do this!!!
|
I gained my 50-lb loss back too after I broke up with a nasty guy. Glad I did too. Now I'm with an awesome guy and hope to lose weight in time to fit into my wedding dress. :)
|
why do we tend to gain all the weight back plus some extra? this is really depressing... :(
