Hey everyone! How was your New Years?!

Mine was a bit of a let down! I had plans in place since November but my friends got sick so it all fell apart =(. I stayed in with my parents and we ordered pizza, I was going to have pizza at the party, so it was really sweet that they did that for me! We watched a few films, watched the countdown on TV and saw the amazing London firework display (on TV, but still very impressive!) This morning, my first meal of 2013, was....a big fatty fry up! Hah! Starting my New Year with a healthy bang of course ;p. I think my bad habits are going to continue until I return to Japan if I'm honest. Then when I'm back I'm going to hit up Jillian Michaels and lose this weight for good! I leave Monday, arrive on Tuesday so I probably won't be conscious until Wednesday so I might do half of week 1 then do a full week 1. Huzzah!

---

Surly - Congratulations on all your achievements, I bet seeing your students so happy was such a rewarding experience. I can only imagine! 30 lbs is amazing, keep it up and you can reach your goal!

Scarlett - Welcome back! I feel like we have a celebrity among us, I remember your challenges so I really hope you enjoy participating in this one! Your attitude to weight loss is amicable, some people would freak out in your situation so it's great to see you have a calm head and focused on the future. I'm positive you can achieve your goal, I hope to see a lot more of you during the challenge =)
What was the exam that you passed? And what's your career of choice? Huge congratulations on all your professional achievements in 2012, you're one clever cookie! I'd love to run a half marathon, I've done 2 10k's and on the day I can never imagine doubling the distance!!

CaliDreamer - WOW! I was going through the spreadsheet and saw your amazing 9 lb loss!! Huge congratulations, keep it up! I too, love organised exercise as you put it, and I enjoyed 30DS and moved up to Shaun T's Insanity. That's another amazing one when you're ready for the ultimate challenge!

betty - Welcome! I hope to see you around and good luck for your weight loss =).

LucyO - Congratulations on passing your exams! You're definitely right, admitting that you're overweight is the first step. I remember once I admitted I was obese I was focused to lose the weight. You can do it!

tinner - A "special" outfit huh?! Intriguing!! Where do you want to teach abroad?

epicskyline - Huge congratulations on the weight you lost in 2012! INCREDIBLE! Working on self confidence is one of the most important things you can ever do, so good luck with that. It's tricky, but you can do it =).

Changer - Congratulations on your engagement! Weddings can be great incentives to shed a few lbs, I know if I were to get married I'd want to look my best!!

margaretann - £3 an hour?! Isn't that...you know...ILLEGAL?! I thought it was bad when I was on £6 an hour!! Glad that you figured out what you wanted to do, and I too love a bit of Bill Bailey!

ilovemo - Wow, setting up a new business seems like the hardest thing in the world to do in my eyes! Good luck!!

runthec - Good luck with your teaching ambitions!

Riestrella: loads of my friends are ill too, everyone in Britain seems to be ill right now. Hope you enjoyed the pizza and fry up; I think you can have a week off your diet as long as you don't have a week off more than once every three months. The shred sounds brutal, I am too chicken for it so I think I will join some aerobics classes at my gym. Thanks for the congratulations! It's so good to have it behind me!

It's the norovirus I think, sounds like a nasty bug. I hope I don't catch it! I did enjoy the food I stuffed my face with, I do like to enjoy the bad stuff once in a while but I know I'll be committed and focused once I go home.
30DS isn't as brutal as you think!! It's tough, but it's goooood. It was the first thing I did to start my weight loss and I lost a stone. What I love is it incorporates cardio, strength to tone you up and abs. I don't know about you, but when I feel my abs hurt I feel like I'm one step closer to a flat stomach!

runthecontinent 01-01-2013 07:06 AM

ilovemo - what kind of business do you have?

Riestrella - how do you do the 30DS? I've read so much about it on 3FC and wanted to try it but youtube is too annoying. :-) I've even tried it using a usb drive plugged into my tv but it takes me too much time to set up and I'm just not motivated to do that. Do you have an actual DVD? If so, where did you get it?

Happy New Year to you all. Good luck with all of your goals in 2013.

My new year's eve was okay although I have only had about 5 hours sleep :( so feeling tired now. Due to a kidney infection I couldn't drink alcohol (soda water all night) and there wasn't any food at my bf's parents so I didn't get to eat any dinner. Atleast it prevented a pre 2013 splurge and other than being tired I am feeling good today.

2012 -

* Had to help my bf gain weight following a lung collapse which was predominantly caused by him being underweight (10 months of serious eating later and he is now overweight!)
* Went up to my highest weight ever of 178lbs
* Lost 14lbs with intermittent fasting (regained 10lbs in December when I stopped fasting)
* Received a lumpsum from some shares I'd invested in and paid it off of my mortgage
* Made redundant 14 Dec 2012
* Got a new job 21 Dec 2012
* Been with my bf for 11 yrs as at Dec 2012 (I am counting that as an achievement :) )

2013 -

* Move house
* Get settled in my new job
* Focus on a lifestyle change, feeling healthier by eating better and increasing my physical activity

I am off to plan some meals for the week and I have managed to borrow the 30DS so am going to watch that (mental preparation) before braving my first workout.

I'm so inspired by all of your goals and successes so far!

2012
  1. Graduated with my MA
  2. Moved to Minneapolis to start PhD
  3. Continued to abstain from eating refined sugar (2 years in Feb!)
  4. Maintained my weight despite a stressful fall (lowest non-ED weight of my life)

2013
  1. Abstain from white flour
  2. Lose the rest of my weight in a healthy and sane way
  3. Spend more time on creative hobbies that are soul-enriching
  4. Go to the beach in a swimsuit for the first time in my entire life

All righhttttttttttt, ladies! :dance:

Just curious if you are all setting rewards for yourselves for hitting fitness/weight goals. I'd love to see what some of your rewards will be!

Lauracore 01-01-2013 10:35 AM

Oh, also did the 30 day shred for the first time since the summer and my legs are shaking! I think I am in WORSE shape than when I did it the first time around! :(

I'm going to chalk it up to the champagne from last night and pretend like tomorrow I will kill it. :)

tinneranne2 01-01-2013 11:07 AM

This has nothing to do with anything really, but this morning I shambled up to the corner store in my pajamas to buy some cat food. I saw a package of mini doughnuts (the ones that come six to a roll) and was like "MINE!". Then I looked at the calorie content...and grabbed a nutrigrain bar instead. Paragon of health? No. But I wanted something breakfasty and sweet. 120 calories as opposed to 400. Rounded out breakfast with an apple and 2tbsp of peanutbutter. Whos awesome? Oh yea, that'd be me.

Lauracore
You WILL kill it tomorrow. And 28 more times after that. :) 30DS hands me my a$s every single day, but I wont let JM get the better of me! There are a couple threads of folks doing the Shred if you ever wanna come round.

Starting the 30 Day Shred

* January 30 Day Shred Challenge!! *

These are all so great to read.

2012:
* Got a promotion at work
* Made it through the year without needing prednisone for lupus!!!! I had some flares but not like past episodes
* Finally refocused on weight/health goals (at the very end of the year)
* Started exercising regularly

2013:
* Reach my goal weight AND maintain
* Wear a real bathing suit to the beach/pool/water park
* Continue to exercise regularly
* Eat healthy, not just for weight but for my health in general
* Be more diligent about specialist visits to monitor health issues

I'm also considering pursuing my PhD, but it isn't an official goal yet.

Well my New Years Eve ended up well. Boyfriend and I had no plans, but plans kinda fell into place. We took his mother to the movies to see Les Miserables. She and I enjoyed it, but it was a little too long for him. She's wonderfully fun to be around. Then we hung out with my sister/brother-in-law and a group of mutual friends. I drank a little bit too much wine/whiskey/peach moonshine. I've got a bit of a headache this morning now.

Riestrella - Oh goodness! I hope you don't get Noro! It's a nasty and contagious little bug. Some of my best New Years memories are just hanging out at home with my family. Hope the pizza was good.

Lauracore - The only rewards I have thought of so far is a new pair of running shoes, a new piece of slightly more expensive lingerie, and maybe a spa day or something. I haven't decided what order I want those things in, but I kinds figure I'll just decide at each mini-goal which seems most appropriate at the time.
