OMG! I'm 5'5!!!!!!!! NOOO!!!!!!

So ever since forever I thought I was 5'6! but today, I decided to measure it (just in case) and I'm 5'5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I have to reset all my "goals" and change my ticker, and just when I thought I was 1 pound away from getting out of the obesity category, now, I have to lose 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is soooooo frustrating, and messed up! I loved being 5'6! Now I'm 5'5....

The blame goes squarely on the person who measured me when I was 16! Can't wait until I'm way down in size and heals become comfortable again!!!

Shocked! I'm just shocked! Not because 5'5 is a bad height, but because a basic truth that I thought I knew about myself turned out to not be true...

(deep breath in! And out... And in... Ok. I need to take a moment...)

The same thing happened to me , ever since I was in high school I thought I was 5'2" tall , my medical records started showing me at 5', I didn't believe it so the next 3 times I went in I had them measure my height, this was measured by 3 different people at 3 different locations ,all came up with 5' even. I now believe them and yes I did adjust my goal weight .

My height has changed in the last few years, at least 3 times.

I was my tallest when I was doing Pilates...seriously, I think the streching made me taller for while.

But I agree it is sucky to be shorter!

Really bargoo???? Wow! And you're doing so well!!!!! Amazing! Congratulations on your success!!!!

This is sooo super inspiring!

(I don't know why, but you actually made me feel a lot better!)

bargoo 09-24-2012 01:51 PM

I don't think I got shorter, I just had the wrong figure in mind, for years, that is why I wanted proof that I was wrong.

I thought I was 5'6" for a while too. I was measured in my senior year of high school because I had not grown taller since I was about 14. My primary care doctor at the time measured me as 5'6" but when I switched doctors I noticed that he had put 5'5", and this was four years later! Since then I have been measured at several places and they all say the same, I'm 5'5". I had to adjust my goals as well but I was glad to finally have the right measurement!

You may also have shrunk. People do tend to shrink a little as they get older. I know people that have lost 4" off their heights. Being overweight can compress the spine. Spinal injuries can also take height off.

I always thought I was 5'5, but really I'm more like 5'4 and a half. lol, I still count it as 5'5 most of the time. I figure I'm rounding, so I'm not lying :)

JessicaB 09-24-2012 02:34 PM

I was just at the doctor's today, and was measured as 5' 4". I'm going to have to have my husband measure me and double check when I get home because I swear I'm 5' 5", that's what I've been forever, and I think my driver's license says that too.. then again, I'm not sure if they had me take off my shoes to be measured then or not.

Either way, I'm pretty close to my goal, but it would explain why I'm not feeling very satisfied with myself at the weight I thought I would be, and seem to not carry weight as well as other people at my height.

I was just at the Dr's office, I'm 5' 4.9"! I count it as 5.5" lol

mimsyborogoves 10-17-2012 12:39 AM

I'm actually somewhere between 5'3 and 5'4, I choose 5'4 cause it makes me feel better about myself, lol. If my numbers are off, so be it, I don't really care. I mean, really, does 5lbs -really- make that much of a difference?

toastedsmoke 10-17-2012 04:53 PM

The same thing happened to me. I thought I was 5'8 (having been measured as this during college) for the longest time and picked my goal weight of 165 based on that. And then I realized (having been measured in grad school) I was 5'7 and felt super short for a week even though obviously, it's really not. I'm now used to it. I've even been measured as 5'6.5 once and managed not to weep. It's okay, you didn't suddenly shrink and as mimsy says the 5 lbs is not an impossible difference in the grand scheme of things.

Oh my gosh I have just measured myself because of what you guys were saying and I am 5'5 too! But I thought I was 5'6 (although that was when I was 11 and I am now 25). Everyone who has been 'the same' height for at least ten years should remeasure themselves I reckon!

Mimzzy 10-18-2012 03:04 PM

I know how you feel! For the longest time I thought I was 5'6.
I based all my calorie burn, goals and calorie intake on that height and then decided to measure myself just to be sure. Turns out I am barely 5`5 :o,

LucyOlivia 10-18-2012 03:30 PM

Scratch that! I got my parents to measure me with a metal tape measure and I AM 5'6 (and a half!). So if you guys have measured yourselves (as I initially did) then get someone else to do it and use a metal tape measure as they are straighter and more accurate! There is hope!
