Taking a Break from Exercising...is it okay?

Hello everyone (:

So I know it's important for our bodies to take one or two rest days every week from exercising & whatnot, but is it okay to take a break from exercising for a week?

I have a friend visiting me in Korea for about a week, and I've realized I don't really have time to go workout since she is staying at my place. I can't necessarily drag her to the gym with me, and I would feel like a bad host for just leaving her by herself in my apartment while I try to get a quick workout in. Also, since I live in Korea we've been doing a lot of walking when we go out & whatnot.

I think I'm just feeling guilty about the thought of not working out for a week--it kind of freaks me out. Is it okay to just give my body a break from intense workout for a week?

Thanks for reading all of this..haha :)

Of course! Life happens.

I frequently take a week off at a time ot deal with chronic illness, and I've maintained my weight and muscle mass. When I can't workout, I do eat less generally. And when I can workout, I really try to give it my all, just in case I have to take time off again.

My goal weight has largely been determined by me deciding that I do not have the personality type and drive to workout daily and or eat super low calorie. At this time, I can easily eat 1800 calories and workout about 14-16 times a month. About every other day. So if intake a week off, I usually make up for it later in the month.

Yes, I think you will be fine. I have took a while off and I am actually still losing.. I need to get back out there but the heat is stopping me for now. I think it would be fine for just a week..

Walking is exercise, a few push ups in the morning is exercise, you'll be fine.

I don't think it's bad. Sometimes taking a break makes you come back stronger when you restart. All my best running times have come when I've not run for a couple of weeks (or even more sometimes <blush>). It's like you suddenly have a new lease on energy or something that you didn't know was missing.

i'm the same way with my running, a long break helps me come back stronger.

I don't think it's bad at all...

My problem is though once I take one week break it's hard to get back to it. So just make sure after the week off you get right back into it...

Like the others have said, there is no problem with taking a break. Since your friend is staying with you, you could even end up showing her around which would involve movement and even little exercise like that helps.
