New Fat Chick

  • Hello all my fellow fat chicks! (I only use the word fat because it's in the site's name. )

My name is Jamie (there would be a profile picture of me, but I couldn't get it to load) and I'm 27, 150 pounds. I get on the scale at the clinic tomorrow, so I'll know if I dropped weight since the last time I was there. Last time I was weighed there, I was 155, but the Wii says I'm 150 now. And a while before that, the scale said 159.

I've never struggled with weight until recent years. I'm bipolar and a medication caused me to put on weight in 2007. I worked hard, and got all the weight off and more, and by early 2008 I was 105 pounds.

Then in 2009 I gained back to my high school weight, which was about 120 pounds. I was content with that. Then in 2010 I went up to 135 pounds. Well I felt fat. I tried the Weigh Down diet and lost ten pounds and kept that off for six months.

In early 2011, I started gaining weight back. Only since then, I've gone up to 150 pounds. I think part of it was that I started sleeping more, since I quit my job. That will put weight on you, I read.

I realize that I'm at a weight that a lot of you would love to be at, but I hate this weight - my old jeans don't fit, much of my fat is in my tummy, and I just down right don't feel good.

Durning the last year, I had tried artifical sweeteners. Well, they caused me to crave more food. I quit them about a month or so ago, and my cravings went way down. I've been eating less.

I found some exercise programs that are fun. Richard Simmons and Leslie Sansone. I've been doing Leslie's workouts pretty consistantly lately.

So, do any of you have any advice for me?

I look forward to talking and participating in this support group!
  • Welcome to 3FC.

My only word of wisdom is hung in there and don't let yourself to get discouraged.
  • Hi and welcome! I started at a similar weight to you. You can do it!
  • Wow, was hoping for more responses, but thanks for the encouragement gals!

I lost five pounds since my last weigh in. I was 159 pounds last time I was weighed at the Summit Center, now I'm 154, which I might be actually 150 (as the Wii says) because their scales are on a carpet floor.

Thanks, but can you tell me what worked for you?
  • Hiya Jamie, sounds like you're off to a great start! Some of us that are in the lower weights (like you) generally skulk the Featherweights thread, you might want to check that out! I noticed you said clinic, I'm not sure what method you are using for your weight loss (IP or WW or anything) but I'm sure you can find a specific support thread for that too!!

    Keep it up!
  • Hi and welcome! My name is Jamie too.

I understand not feeling comfortable in your skin even if you're not technically overweight or obese, I feel that way now. After my daughter was born last summer I worked out and calorie counted down to 132. Then life happened (my husband came home from deployment, we moved twice, etc) and it creeped up to the mid-140s. I'm now on my way back down. I just calorie count (weighing and measuring my foods and writing everything down) and working out at the gym. Different methods work for different people. Check out all of the subforums and you may find something that suits you.
  • Hi Jamie and welcome

If I was to give you one piece of advice it would be always believe in yourself that you can do this! Congratulations on your loss so far. You're well on your way! Best of luck for the rest and I hope to see you around the forums.
  • Wow, thanks so much everyone! And I will check out the Featherweight forum Dorian5. And by clinic I mean a mental type clinic, I'm bipolar and Summit Center is where I check in and recieve my meds.
