Scales
Probably a silly question, but what kind of scales do you all use/recommend?
I see a lot of people who's weigh in are .1, .3, .6 etc. My scale only does .0 and .5. I think it would be nice to keep track of the smaller variances and see what my body is doing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :) |
I just have a cheap ($20) digital scale from Target. It goes in .2 increments. .1 increments would be nice, but .2 is adequate, I suppose.

i use a WW scale from wal-mart.
technically its supposed to also calculate body fat composition, but i never did figure out how to use that function so it's a digital scale that goes up in .1 increments. |
I just use the cheap 8 dollar scale that doesn't do . or anything special it just spins to the number. Maybe one day I'll invest in a . something scale but every time I seem to step on those there's always an ERROR lol...

I don't really trust digital scales, haha. I have an old analog scale that I use. I found out it was off by 10 pounds recently, but I know it's accurate now because it weighs my 12lb and 15lb weights correctly :)
|
I have a glass Weight Watchers scale... but only because my mother bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago.
That being said, no matter WHAT scale you use, it's probably gonna say something slightly different than the next one... I tend not to stress about what number the scale says I am... and more use it as a barometer to know how much weight I've lost from my starting point. :) |
Glass conair/weight watchers scale. Sometimes I don't believe its all that correct though.

I use a salter scale called the pebble scale, it doesn't do anything to fancy just looks neat.
|
I just use the $20 special...nothing fancy. The way I see it is if the scale is 10lbs off, it's 10lbs off. I'll still be able to measure my progress, it'll just be 10lbs off from 'reality' which I can get a dose of anytime I want by just going to my doctor.
I also don't really care about anything less than a pound...or even two pounds of difference. I operate under the assumption that my weight can vary by 1-2 lbs depending on water retention and the contents of my bowels at any given point in time. If I weigh myself first thing in the morning, I'm retaining water and I haven't pooped (TMI, I don't poop until I'm at work :] ). My lowest weight during the day (and yes, I've spent several weeks where I checked my weight several times per day, just to see the variances) happens to be when I get home from work--2 hours after my last meal and after drinking tons of water all morning (and peeing it all out). If I wake up one morning and realize my scale is more often at 123 instead of 125 and stays in that range for a week, then and ONLY then do I register that as a weight loss! |
I just got a new digital scale that works really well (and it's nicely designed, which doesn't hurt)!

At first it was off (meaning I'd step on it, see a number, then stop off and back on and have a totally different number) but then I realized you can't weigh with socks on. Once I took my socks off it worked perfect. It measures your body fat, water weight and bone mass, but I never do that stuff (I'm not sure of how accurate that stuff would be anyways since the scale is only $40 and that seems kind of complex)
It weighs in .1 increments but I never pay attention to those. Here's what it looks like : http://www.walmart.com/ip/Weight-Wat...ndingMethod=rr |
I used my wii fit balance board. It will only give me whole lbs, but it plots them exactly on a graph and gives me a bmi at the same time. It works for me :)
