Just ordered myself a Bodybugg!!

I can't wait to get it! I've wanted one for so long, and I finally decided to 'treat' myself to one. I think it'll be a great tool for me. My bf and I are going on our first vacation together March 1st, and I want to see how much I can lose by then.. I think this will definitely help me reach my goal of at least 15-20lbs loss by then! Anyone else use one? How has your experience been?

HeatherMcG 01-08-2012 11:13 AM

Mine comes tomorrow!!! I'm so excited. Maybe we can be bugg buddies?

Mommywannabe 01-08-2012 01:03 PM

absolutely! I think its going to be a big eye opener as far as how many calories im eating/burning.

Nocturneluna 01-08-2012 02:20 PM

Sounds expensive lol

whatsammysaid 01-08-2012 04:26 PM

Sounds just like a high priced pedometer. It may be more accurate but I'd rather get a pedometer for about 10 bucks and just do the math myself at the end of the day lol.

HeatherMcG 01-08-2012 06:01 PM

The BB measures much more than just steps. It measures 4 different body readings to give an accurate reading of what your body actually burns I know the treadmill SAYS you burnt 300 calories but machine readings cAn be overestimated by as much as 50%!

Its for people who want to know EXACTLY what is going on their bodies and can be especially helpful for people with metabolism issues.

This type of product isn't for everyone. But, I can't wait to see whats going on with me!

Mommywannabe 01-08-2012 08:06 PM

Yeah, its definitely a luxury item.. I ordered the Bodybugg v3.. found a coupon code online and got it for about $110.. You also get a free 6 month subscription.. I figure by the end of the 6 months I'll know my body well enough that I may not need it anymore.. but I'm so excited to see the numbers and see if it helps :)

Nocturneluna 01-08-2012 10:55 PM

That's crazy actually. Though I would never have the money for such a thing. I just try to sweat as much as possible during my exercises and I took a lot of fitness and weight training classes to give myself good ideas on exercises. I can't even afford to go to a gym, though I really wish I could. :(

Quiet Ballerina 01-09-2012 12:35 PM

That's so awesome! I hope you both post updates about your BodyBugg. It's something I've considered getting for sure.

Mimzzy 01-09-2012 01:46 PM

I've look into getting one of those! They are a really neat little device, I think it would be cool to get a look into how efficiently your body is working :) If I had a job, I would save up for one for sure.

berryblondeboys 01-09-2012 01:52 PM

What is the advantage to this over a fit bit or whatever it is called? Isn't the fitbit available without a service plan? Since my fitness watch was stolen, I've been trying to decide what I wanted ans I don't need it but these things motivate me to do more.

Salley 01-09-2012 02:51 PM

I hope no one minds if I poke myself in on the conversation, since I'm far from a twenty something, but I just got a Bodybugg, too a couple of days ago. I've been concerned that it is actually underestimating the amount of calories I'm burning. After working out with my personal trainer for an hour today, we both thought I should have burned about 500, but the bugg showed 250. I wonder if there is a way to calibrate it!

Salley 01-09-2012 03:14 PM

Thanks, Kara...
My trainer has me doing a variety of things. Before the session, I walked at about 3.5 mph for 20 minutes. During the session I jogged, lots of squats (with weights), resistance weight training, kicks, punches, jumping jacks, abs work, walk out/in planks, etc. She keeps me busy the entire time, and I'm dripping by the time we're done! The pedometer portion seems pretty accurate to me, as I'm in excess of 10,000 per day (I walk a lot, and use my mini-elliptical for at least an hour per day).

I created a new program, and had the opportunity to check the data I entered, and it was correct.

MissGuided 01-09-2012 03:27 PM

Looks neat.
Though I personally wouldn't rely heavily on the device to give me an 'accurate' reading.

mandalinn82 01-09-2012 04:20 PM

I had one for a time, and it was totally inaccurate for me, despite being programmed correctly (but then, I am an extreme outlier on the BMR calculators as well. If the burns provided by BodyBugg, HRMs, and online calculators were correct, with what I'm eating, I would have ceased to exist several years ago).

It seems like they are very accurate for a lot of folks, though, and I could see how they'd be a useful tool if you had the money to spare!

Salley 01-09-2012 05:52 PM

I'll check the company to make sure it's not user error... and I probably should have checked to see if there is a money back guarantee!

I know when I get REALLY sweaty, if the band isn't tight enough the sensor will slide down my arm and sometimes that will break contact. Check the readout and see if there are any abnormal looking valleys during the activity time.

The bugg hasn't slipped.

Checking the readout was a great idea! It showed the highest activity during the times I walked before the workout, and oddly high (IMO) when I went grocery shopping later. I was definitely only strolling at the store, and my workout time was only slightly more intense than my stroll! I programmed the bugg to signal me for an hour's worth of activity, and it didn't reach that until I got back from the market. I *know* my workout was far more intense than any of my walking! Very odd...

HeatherMcG 01-09-2012 07:31 PM

I got my bugg today! Unfortunately, I'm having issues getting it set up. Thinking I'm going to have to call support later.

Mommywannabe 01-09-2012 11:38 PM

Hope you get it going right Heather! I wish they'd hurry up and ship mine! Hopefully tomorrow!

HeatherMcG 01-10-2012 06:42 AM

Actually, my only problem was user error! Lol It is charged, set up, paired to my iphone, and on my arm. Can't wait to see what kind of info my body gives me!

scjp926 01-10-2012 11:17 AM

I have a BB Sp and when I first got it I loved it. I stopped wearing it for 2 months for a maintenance break and now I am having so many issues with pairing it to my smart phone :( It was a lot of money and I hate that I will soon have to re-up online just so I can see my readout. I hate the online food log too. I use MyFitnessPal instead. It is a great tool and I have lost weight I just wish it would be more consistent in synching

Are you sure you're wearing it in the right position? I have a Body Media Fit, and when I used to work at Jenny Craig, I noticed some clients weren't wearing it correctly on their arm. You're supposed to wear it on the back of your upper arm, not on the side, so it's like the device is facing backwards almost. Does that make sense?

HeatherMcG 01-11-2012 07:04 AM

My first day:
Steps- 10440
Cals Burned- 3150
Cals ate- 1559

^ if this is my normal, I have been eating way too few cals!

scjp926 01-11-2012 12:11 PM

I have issues bc My fitness pal says that I am eating too little when I am eating the 1200 it says I should eat. But when I workout it says that I am eating too little. But it never tells me that on the BB program. The BB never says anything about 'net calories' so I am always confused.

See how many calories you burn per day on average. Eat 500-600 below that. Exercise and use those calories burned as "bonus" calories towards your loss.

Yep... Especially since you can't really be sure if those net calories are accurate.

Thanks Bandit Bear! I started wearing it how you are describing. After getting the low readouts, I noticed the pictures of people on the website wear it on the side facing out, so I switched it there yesterday. Sounds like I had it right the first time!

Mommywannabe 01-12-2012 10:38 PM

Finally got my email confirmation that my bodybugg has shipped even though it shipped a couple days ago LOL. Should get it tomorrow! Can't wait!

HeatherMcG 01-13-2012 09:41 AM

Been wearing my bugg for days and I love it! Super motivating and really eye opening. I am consistantly an over 3100 cal burner WITHOUT any extra exercise. Now, I'm trying to add cals, but I'm so used to eating very little food that it seems so wrong to try and eat more when I want to weigh less. I haven't lost any weight yet. However, I bought it and it is a tool I use like handweigts. I never expected it to melt the weigt off for me.

Mimzzy 01-13-2012 06:50 PM

I totally went ahead and ordered myself a BodyMedia Fit, same thing as the bodybugg but a little cheaper. I can't wait to you it! I am looking forward to seeing how you like yours :)

Mommywannabe 01-14-2012 08:19 AM

woohoo got mine yesterday and already love it! its definitely a huge motivator to move more!
