Hi TimeforSummer! An easy way to start is by making small changes that you can stick with and building on them over time. For example, if you drink a lot of soda, you might consider switching to diet soda or (better yet) switching to water over the course of a few weeks. Or you could add one more serving of fruit or vegetables to your daily meals. If you're not very active, maybe you could add 30 or 45 minutes of walking to your daily schedule. Little things like that can make a big difference over time. Do you know how much you should be eating? That can be a good place to start as well. If you're not sure what your caloric intake should be, do a web search for "calorie calculator" and follow the calculator's instructions to figure out about what your daily intake should be.

One thing that is really important to do if you want to lose weight safely and keep it off is to educate yourself about nutrition and healthy eating. You don't have to learn everything at once, but start checking out the message boards here and seeing what other people are doing and read well-regarded weight loss books and articles about weight loss on reputable health sites/magazines. If you have the time and money, it might be worth your while to try a more formal program like South Beach Diet or Weight Watchers. Well-respected programs like those do a lot of the "heavy thinking" about nutrition for you so you can focus on learning new habits.
