It's awesome that you stopped yourself! Great job!

5 cookies? lmfao good for you... I had my best friends over last night while they were down from BC and between the 3 of us we ate an entire box (40) of chocolate chip cookies.... hello hip hop abs ill be seeing you soon! :P

I just ate two Girl Scout cookies (only 120 calories), but I'm sooooo tempted to eat more. Drool.

I had jack in the box today.. Full chicken sandwich and curly fried and a Dr.pepper. Not a diet one either, because i am giving up fake sugars. So dont feel bad about your cookies. We all make mistakes, we just gotta hop right back on the bandwagon. Besides this is life. It wouldn't be any fun if we didn't allow ourselves what we really want every now and then.

I think we can all agree that somewhere in our weight loss journey we PIG OUT. It happens, don't worry, just don't make a habit of it and exercise super hard to burn it off so you feel better!

I'd disagree with this advice.

Eating higher calories one day is normal. Eating a bit less over the next few days very easily accommodates a higher calorie day. It's what our bodies do normally- the vast majority of healthy-weight people in history have not counted calories and certainly didn't eat the exact same amount of food every single day. Some days more is consumed, some is less. It's about a long-term balance. not day-to-day fluctuations.

You didn't do anything wrong and you shouldn't have to exercise super hard to "get rid" or "burn off" anything. Eating more one day is normal as long as in the long run (over the course of a week or longer) you are creating a deficit you haven't gained anything.

I saw a lot of this in college- girls who would go to the gym Saturday morning to burn off 500 calories for the 500 calories of alcohol they consumed the night before. This is not how the body works (we have no idea if we are actually burning those 500 calories, or how our body will reduce energy expenditure in other ways to accommodate burning it off), but more importantly, it's not a healthy mindset to go do penance on the treadmill for eating a few cookies.

If the advice was "maybe go exercise and you'll feel better" I could agree with that. Exercise helps most people feel healthy and refreshed and make right eating choices for the rest of the day. But "go exercise super hard to burn it off so you'll feel better" is an unhealthy way of going about it.

indiblue gave you some great advice.

I don't know what kind of plan you're on, but if you're a calorie counter I wouldn't sweat it. I had a higher calorie day a couple of times when I was losing (usually because I counted something wrong, whoops!) and it didn't cause me to stall or gain, in fact those higher calorie days may have even helped me out! :)

crazygurl61 12-21-2011 09:39 AM

Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm a calorie counter. I went about 450 calories over my normal yesterday, but am back on track today. I took an extra walk and felt better. Today I am working and teaching PE tonight so I know I will be naturally active. We will see what the scale says today!

That's exactly what I meant and I explained it in a r3tarded way. I'm not a calorie counter, so when I say burn it off I mean just exercise and feel like you're doing good to get the endorphins running. Wrong terminology, duly noted for the future.

indiblue 12-21-2011 11:00 PM

Totally agree, Riestrella. Exercise endorphins seriously rock and can make a bad day awesome!

Don't you hate that? I was given a small gift bag of chocolate today, and thought to myself "0h, one won't kill me, plus it's the holidays! Eight hours later, the little bag is about empty, and I am completely disgusted/annoyed with myself for not having more control.

stimkovs 12-22-2011 08:28 AM

i hate to preach to the choir, but don't beat yourself up.

i know i've said this before, and i'm sure everybody knows my love for peanut butter, but i ate about half a bag of pb m&ms yesterday, and a 3rd of a 99% chocolate bar, most of that over my calories- but kept eating on plan for the rest of the day. got on the scale this morning, to keep myself accountable, since i'm on a "yoga break/workout break" until the end of the year.

still saw a lb drop.

don't beat yourself up, keep calm and keep truckin' it'll work out in the end!!

Riestrella 12-22-2011 10:46 AM

I'm the same, sometimes I go out for a meal and just eat what I want and have a soda with it and I still end up losing weight. I exercise 6 days a week for 40-60 minutes so when I do have slumps I find my metabolism keeps going, sometimes I have stalls where I might not exercise for a while. Recently when my dog passed away I didn't exercise for 3 weeks, had a lot of junk food and still lost 3 lbs.
