Does size matter?
I'm wondering how much size matters... I know I still have a ways to go but I have a hard time believing in 30 pounds that I'll be in the size clothes I've always dreamed about because my butt is massive. Is size on clothing super important to you or does it just something you throw on not worrying about it?
|
Size isn't a huge deal to me, mostly b/c there is no "set" sizing, so most women are a variety of sizes at any one given time. So annoying! I had a mini-breakthrough today b/c I ordered the next size down in jeans, b/c my 4s were getting too loose. I ordered the SAME brand, SAME cut, SAME color, etc...just a 2. Couldn't get them up to my butt! WTF?? But I have that same brand, different cut in a 2 and it fits fine.
It really just cemented the fact that the sizing is so messed up. I plan to use my comfy 4s as my benchmark...so if they get tight, that would be a red light for me. |
I like it that I was wearing 18s last winter and 14s this winter. It makes me happy. It's silly but I was wondering... 10 next winter?

Clothes is something I want to look good in. I refuse to let the clothes wear me. Clothing size is not as important as how good you look in your clothes.
|
Clothing size is really tricky. I certainly have a size I would like t get to or under, but I also know in many ways size is an imprecise measurement, and not something I should focus to closely on.
For example, I was getting new pants the other day and I tried on a pair in the dressing room that fit pretty well. I went back to the shelves to find them in another color (same size and style). And just to double check I held up the pants I tired on to the pants in the other color and the other color was probably 2 inches smaller at the waist. So same brand, size, and style, but they wouldn't have fit. |
Clothing size isn't particularly important to me. I would mainly just like to be small enough to be able to find what I want in my size (and not have to pay out the nose for it).
|
Sizes are sort of important to me. I have a hard time with body image and knowing what i look like, so i judge what i look like by what size i wear.
|
It is important to me! Even though I will not dress in clothing that is too small/poorly fitting to be a specific size, I will cut out the tags so no one knows what size I wear.
I'm excited to eventually be able to go shopping with my friends for clothes without worrying about what size I need to wear! |
Meh, it's sort of important. I love knowing I'm now a UK 12/14 instead of a UK 16/18. But clothes are something I wear and try and find the right size. If I was 130 lbs and at my goal weight but I had to wear a 14 to look good, I wouldn't freak out about it! Shops are different anyway, there's no universal size since sometimes I can be bigger or smaller depending the shop.
|
I'd like to say size isn't important, but I think I'm like you. Only instead of a voluptuous behind, I have a floppy gut! I'm trying really hard not to think about it as I still have at least 20lbs to lose. If I could just insure it all came from my gut I'd be happy! lol

I do want to lose weight.
But I don't really care about the size number on the clothes. Wherever it is I am currently at, I just want the clothes to look good on me and flatter. Ill fitting is just ill fitting. A. |
Yes, size matters in that I would like to fit into most national brands. Beyond that, I care much more about fitness. I ended up in a smaller size than I thought I'd ever wear, and it was all with a weight in mind rather than a size. Now, I would like to fit more consistently into that one size, but that's not an issue with me, that's an issue with manufacturing.
|
Size doesnt really matter that horribly. but i would like to be in the single digits. and i would like to be able to shop anywhere. lol i cant pants at most stores and i cant wait till i can finally buy a pair of dickies!!! As long as those DICKIES FIT i dont care what size they are!
|
I have found 1 brand of 6s that I fit into.. and 8s are way too big for me at this point.. I Am hoping in the next 10 pounds I will be able to comfortably fit into all 6s :)... If not I'll have to adjust my goal.
|
Its not extremely important to me since vanity sizing is so prevalent every where but I would be lying if I said I didn't get excited when I fit into a size small shirt or smaller jean then usual! I would also prefer to be in single digit sizing because well.... it just makes me feel better lol
|
I guess I don't feel so alone on this matter. I really want to be in the lower single digits... today was the first time I was able to wear a size 8 skirt! I was so shocked that I bought it immediately just in case it changed its mind about fitting on me.... so lame I know but I was so happy...
|
Congrats on the size 8! That is an amazing feeling.
Size really matters to me, however it's so all over the place. I'm currently in a mixture of 6's and 8's but I've got a pair of $300 jeans I love that are a 30..which is a 10. Then I hear people on here who are my height and weight who wear size 2! It's really all over the place. |
Size matters to me, but what matters MORE to me is just being able to grab something off the rack, try it on, and have it fit. I don't care if it's a large or small, that'll be very exciting for me when I get there. I hate going into a store with friends and while they're trying stuff on I'm standing outside the fitting rooms because nothing in the store fits me.
|
Size matters to me to an extent. I'm completely OK with the fact that I'll never be a size 2. I just hate that right now, it's hard for me to find jeans that fit properly. At my lowest weight of 150, I was a size 11 and had no problem finding clothes. I think I'll maybe be a 7 or a 9 when I get to my goal weight of 135, I think that's a perfect size for me since I'll be able to walk into stores and not spend hours searching for pants large enough to fit me. That's all I really care about when it comes to size :)
|
Size matters to me only because I want to be able to shop in just about any store in the mall, which means I want to be a size 8 or so. I never cared about fashion while I was obese but now I'm overjoyed at the thought of shopping anywhere and being able to fit in the clothes!

Sizes used to matter to me but not so much anymore. Once I hit 16's, I pretty much said that anything below this would make me happy, mainly because I can shop in most stores xD. Whatever size I end up it will be ok. I'm tall. I have wide hip bones. I'm never going to be a size 2-4-6. My bone structure won't allow for it. |
Size doesn't matter as much to me. I want to be out of plus size but I don't care about the number. I want to look good naked (flat stomach, toned arms, etc). I also want to be a certain weight. Clothing sizes are too varied for me to worry about.

*Unfortunately, if I want to be able to buy them in Japan, I'll have to lose another 60lbs and 5 inches off my height. |
Sort of...
I want to be a certain size in the sense that I have measurements in mind that I'd like to obtain. That being said what that size translates to inside a store can really depend on the brand, the cut of clothes, the stretch in the material etc. I also know that because I have a large bust some clothes are just not going to fit me well no matter how much weight I lose so I've had to learn to accept that and move on with my life. One of my mini-goals was to hit a size 8 or under. When I did it, it was rather anti-climatic because sizes have changed SO MUCH since the last time that I was an 8 that I was actually rather disappointed because now I don't know what size I was in the past when I was a size 8 (and I have nothing to compare it to!). Size does mean something in the sense too that you know where you fit in with that brand's average customer. At Old Navy I wear smalls so I know that I'm on the small end of their customer base. At some more upscale stores I wear a medium or maybe even a large, so I know that brand markets to smaller people than me. Ideally, I'd like to find brands where I fit about their mediums because those are the size they had in mind when they made those clothes. |
To me it's meaningless. I've got clothes in my closet from a size 4 through a 10 that fit me. Every manufacturer sizes differently, and vanity sizing has gotten out of control. I go by weight, measurements, and body fat.
|
I'm not shooting for a certain size, but rather looking for a range of measurements. As loads of the other posters have said, sizes can vary so much between and within brands, and I'd rather just be happy with how I look then fit into a certain size.
|
You know if I had a flat stomach I really wouldn't care what size I was.
It's certainly better than it was when I started, but still isn't flat. I'm working on strengthening my core right now. |
