I've been working out and dieting at a not-too-aggressive pace, but have been steadily losing and feel good about but. But I just tried on a dress that I need to wear in two weeks and it is just exactly too tight at my lower belly/hip area. I will try to ramp up working out and cut down on carbs for the next two weeks, but does anyone have any quick tips for shaving weight off that area? I do have Spanx to wear, but while I sat down in the dress tonight and moved around and one of the snaps popped open. I really want to wear this dress! Like I said, though, I only have two weeks.
Theres really no healthy way to do it, I dont think, and you cant guarantee what you will lose will be from the right spots either. Have you considering having the dress altered? I know that might defeat the purpose if you really want to wear it because it would represent progress to you, but otherwise it might be a good option.
Iconised Ghost, I know it'll be unhealthy at this point. I only have two weeks! I am definitely gonna try to get it altered! I've never been too concerned with dress size or fitting into clothing as a goal myself. Getting into the dress at this point would just represent the fact that I didn't waste money. Haha. I would just buy a larger size, but this is a vintage dress I ordered online. I definitely took the risk by ordering it and I don't have anything emotionally invested in it. I just don't know if altering will be an option because of the cut. But I'm certainly going to try!
Eat clean and track everything.
Limit salt
Up the intensity of your exercise
Drink a lot of water (limit sugary drinks if not eliminate it)
Sleep enough
Heavy weight lifting, drinking lots of water, and cutting carbs.
Not much else you can do really. Heavy weight lifting helps to take away the inches the quickest. It might actually mean an immediate stall on the scale BUT ignore that for two weeks and you'll be fine (it's 100% due to water retention, NOT gaining fat). I will say this, though, immediately post workout and for the next day you might appear bigger due to water retention (And the scale often goes up). But that's a good thing because it means you're building muscles.
So, what my recommendation would be is lift heavy for two weeks 3x per week. Do some cardio afterwards or on one of your off days(but no more than that, you really need that rest in between to repair muscles and lift heavy enough to see results).
However, don't lift two days before the event to avoid water retention (you could still do cardio, though). And drink water like crazy before hand. Also avoid anything too salty or that could cause bloating.
ETA: oh, and don't forget shapewear!!!

is it absolutely necessary to wear that dress? if it were me, i would just break down and buy another dress that isn't in danger of tearing at the seams. a good fitting garment will make you appear as though you've lost inches as opposed to squeezing those inches into spandex. i just wouldn't risk destroying the dress if i sat down. you will be more comfortable, too.
the only SIGNIFICANT real weight you an lose in two weeks is water weight-- but it absolutely just might make all the difference!! Water has size/volume, so dropping it WILL reduce your size, but its temporary.
Increasing your exercise (ESP "heavy lifting") will ONLY increase your water retention.
Lower cals as much as possible
eliminate carbs as much as possible Stop the wokouts (just walk daily, to keep your burn up, but at low intensity). This will allow your body to flush out any excess water it is holding onto due to inflammation from working out, and will also allow you to go lower in your cals and carbs
You could eliminate sodium as well.
Lots of water
Be PREPARED FOR A REBOUND WEIGHT GAIN IF YOU DO THIS
I HEARTILY second mkroyer on this. Lifting makes me swell, especially in the glutes!
I say girdle. A great girdle is a fabulous thing. Rago makes some super ones that will make you feel so vintagey right underneath your beautiful vintage dress. I can't link to them because I have not posted quite enough, but just google "Rago body shaper" and enjoy! They are very Mad Men. You can even do stockings and just feel rad. Such underpinnings might bring you down an inch or so, though, so if your dress is delicate, it may not be enough.
