I know somewhat of how you're feeling. Just a few weeks ago I had to put down my 14 year old Golden. Aren't they the sweetest dogs? It was so hard to get over, and I'm still sad, but I know he's not in any pain anymore (the last few days were hard for him). We just have to remind ourselves of all the wonderful times we had with them, and what great lives they had!
Thought this would cheer you and anyone else who has lost a beloved 4 footed family member
The new Rainbow Bridge inspired by a Norse legend
By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
I am so sorry for your loss. Losing pets is so hard. You get so close to them and so used to having them there whenever you need them. I understand your pain and I hope it gets better. Please do not give up on yourself. To me, it sounds like you are a wonderful girl trying to accomplish so much! It would be a shame to give up now with as far as you have come. HUGS and we are all here for you...it will be ok. Time heals.

Sooo.. this made me cry!!!
I hate to hear about people losing pets. My two pups are my whole world and I can't imagine your suffering! I pray you make it through this hard time.. Stay strong and always remember the best memories!!

They really are. I am very lucky, because I do have my own golden retriever around to comfort me (Ruby lived with my parents, about 150-200 km away). Goldens have this ability to just know when you're feeling sad. Cookie came and licked my (salty) tears every time I started crying yesterday.
So sorry to hear about your loss, but I do believe he is in a better place with Ruby. I am glad to hear that you're doing better now
Weightforme - I have read that poem before and loved it. I still love it. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you all again for the support. I woke up this morning and felt a little better, but still sad, of course. Maybe I'll go running today; I could really use the endorphins.
Cookiebear - I am so sorry for your loss of Ruby!! it hurts so much. And it will hurt for a while. Just know that we are sad with you and are giving you long-distance hugs and we know how much you loved her. I hope you will be able to eat and rest a bit, your exam is important also. I know you will never stop missing Ruby but it will hurt less in the future.
and sympathy to everyone else who has lost a loved pet!!
Im so sorry about your loss.. unfortunately when it comes to kidney failure theres not much you can do, just IV fluids to keep it comfortable for a little bit. I know how difficult it is, remember the wonderful years you had together and you did all you can. Sometimes its better for them to go instead of living with the condition... The hard part is letting go. Having pets are horrible b/c you get so attached to those little critters (I have a few and I love them dearly.) Keep ya head up girly.
