College-girls support

Hey fellow 20-somethings! I don't know if we have a college/university thread for us dieting while in school, so I thought I'd start one (if we already have one, then please direct me to it! Thanks) because losing weight and eating well is hard at any age, but throwing in college, with all the peer pressure, fast food, stress from class, etc. adds an extra twist. I thought we could all support eachother, so I'll start it off:

College: California State University, East Bay
Year: Junior
Major: Communications

You can add anything else you want!!!

Haha. I feel you on this one. I'm currently a senior and will begin the rollercoaster/typical stress eating world that is law school next year. What I find interesting is that because I am a senior and have spent some time in school, when I see people from back home/who I knew freshman year its funny. Why? Because I look different then when I knew them and also because a lot of people have/are continuing to put on weight while I'm losing and getting more health concious. I don't noticethis in a judgemental, derogatory sense. Its just an observation. I guess most people neverhad to worry about this sort of thing and the smaller percentage of us who have grown up fat are kind of doing it with results in mind. Anywho, I'm at University of Alabama, senior, finance major.

I'm so glad you all are into this!!! So I'll go first with a stress-related mini-binge I had tonight. So, I am taking a math class. For the second time. And I have to pass it to graduate, and tonight I had a mid-term and I think I bombed it...I thought I knew what I needed to know, but I got there and my heart just stopped. So after (maybe) bombing the test, I left the class and headed to Taco Bell, I thought, "screw it, I have been good and I am really depressed right now" so I had 3 tacos, then I came home and had a cornbread muffin, some fish and some shrimp...

I am a little proud of myself because the old me would have had 4 tacos, with a big soda, and some nachos and some little churro-thingy's. Soooo, in that way, it's a tiny NSV, but a real NSV would have been me going to work out or something...and I voe to myself that next time that happens, I heading right to the gym and working off my stress/depression.

Weight loss in college definitely has its own set of challenges! This is a great idea. Iconised Ghost...I eat to procrastinate as well. I'll have an essay due, and I'll write two paragraphs...then head to the kitchen and find something to munch on because "I already wrote two paragraphs. Now it's time to eat!" It's ridiculous!

College: Northeastern University
Year: Sophomore
Major: International Affairs

Happy to see so many psychology people here! I'm currently a couple of years into a Clinical Psychology PhD program in the Midwest. I did my undergrad work (also in psych) in California. I find that I stress eat a lot in graduate school.... in the face of deadlines, while writing papers/exams, and even after rough therapy sessions with clients :o doesn't help that there always seems to be someone bringing in free cookies/bagels/cake.

I like this idea! I think one of my main struggles is avoiding the chinese food place in my university's student union between classes. I used to spend $10 there every single day last semester. I'd buy my food and then go eat in the back corner so no one would see! I just avoid the student union, all together, now. There are plenty of coffee shops and jamba juices around campus to hang out in :)

Fit4Lyfe 04-14-2011 11:33 AM

I'm glad to see so many other students...and Iconised Ghost, ar2010 I am the queen on, "oh I typed a page, cookie break!!!" it's a shame, I'm trying to at least finish whole papers before I get to eat something else.
