Hobbies....

So I need a hobbie, or a bunch of hobbies...to start keeping myself busy.

What do you guys do for hobbies?

Lurker89 03-29-2011 10:17 AM

Big video gamer. For the more physical type, maybe Paintball if you haven't tried that before. It's a little pricey for an every day hobby but you can get a lot of physical exercise out of it too. :)

MiZTaCCen 03-29-2011 10:21 AM

I like video games...I think I should buy dead risen for Ps3 this weekend and just kill some zombies. haha.

Andrbeck 03-29-2011 10:22 AM

I'd love to try paintballing!!! I think that would be really funn.. I don't have any hobbies iether and I really need to get one. My fiance does hunting. and so in the spring and the fall he's gone almost every weekend and he tells me constnatly I need to find something to do that I enjoy so that I wont be bugging him constantly. I used to bake but that's difficult because then I want to eat everything I've made.

You could make like walking a hobby. I don't know if you have any dogs or children. or you can borrow either. haha I can't wait to see what others say..

MiZTaCCen 03-29-2011 10:44 AM

Baking! I totally want to get into baking different types of cakes, kind of like my sister did for a while which looked amazing. But I don't have a stove, or an oven so until I can afford a higher price place that hobbie is out of the question...

As for paintballing yep that would be fun...but I'm poor haha.

Laneyy 03-29-2011 11:05 AM

This is gonna be a big cluster**** of weird stuff [I can't help it, I like it weird]:

knitting, painting, reading, paintball, jewelery making, making lip balm, video games.

taliee 03-29-2011 11:07 AM

I was telling a friend the other day that I want to take up sewing and gardening after I graduate next year. Right now, I'm really enjoying cooking! :D

linalin 03-29-2011 11:46 AM

I am fairly "crafty" so most of my hobbies are related to that: I sew, paint, draw, papercrafts, quilt. Trying my hand at interior design since I'm redoing most of the house with BF is away. I read, go for walks. I'd like to take up biking.

What about letterboxing? It's fun and gets you outdoors (http://www.letterboxing.org/)

I love to bake! Bad hobby though, because I also love to EAT what I bake! :P

Andrbeck 03-29-2011 03:48 PM

I like to read but I dont feel like I ever have time anymore :(

prepping 03-29-2011 04:10 PM

It took me a long time to figure out, but my hobby is picking up hobbies. :p I'm constantly switching up what my focus is going to be when I finish a project.

Right now my rotation consists of: learning to sew (helps to start with a class), crochet afghans, reading and video games.

When it's warmer I'll be adding gardening, tennis, and biking to the list.

Ishisnowcone 03-29-2011 05:04 PM

What about like, religion. It can really take up as much or as little time as you want, and you can take your pick at what gets you thinking. Its free, its interesting, and can even be fulfilling.

Paramedic 03-29-2011 05:14 PM

Video games, reading books or comics, drawing, airsoft and eventually archery. I also love to go hiking, but I don't get to do so as much as I'd like to.

MrsCLS 03-29-2011 08:15 PM

I Love to read, Scrapbooking is always a good time (digitally online too). I also adore Makeup, I am a Freelace MA on the side and I love it! I am a Crafty gal and anything that has to do with ART is my kinda thing! :) I also love to Bake, Graphic Design, Decorate and get on Facebook (My Addiction) LOL oh yeah and SHOPPING!

krampus 03-29-2011 09:08 PM

Sounds like money is tight so "shopping" might not be the best suggestion.

Do you have anyone you like a lot with a birthday or something coming up? I am totally not the domestic type and I'd rather kill myself than knit or crochet anything, but I got very very very zealously obsessed with scrapbooking and made a really nice one for someone as a gift. Basically any kind of project that you can work on for a couple hours a day makes an awesome hobby.

Cleaning/organizing things like music files on your computer, your closets, etc can be time consuming too.

audri8301 03-29-2011 10:15 PM

reading, knitting/crocheting, video games, hiking/sightseeing depending on where you live, geocaching

missheidi87 03-29-2011 10:48 PM

I'm such a nerd, I love to read, to journal, and to play Cafe World on FB :/

fatferretfanatic 03-29-2011 11:05 PM

I love to read, write, sew, weave, knit, cook, hike, swim, go for leisure walks and walks for exercise, camping, and I also have my ferrets that are my obsession more than a hobby. I love them. I hope you find something you love!

Iconised Ghost 03-30-2011 12:44 AM

I like video games too :D If you're looking at zombies then you probably already have L4D2, but its one of my aaaaaaall time favourites. As well as the Sims 2 xD That is REALLY time consuming. Like an uber hobbie or something. I also do a martial art, and I like cross stitching (good when you need something to do with your hands especially). I like cooking but i cant really say its a hobbie (although collecting recipes is!) I'd like to get into some kind of organised sport again, like netball or gymnastics, but i dont have the time or the money at the moment :(

konfyoozed 03-30-2011 12:47 AM

i love reading, playing video games, cooking, playing in the dirt (usually killing the plants, but i do like to try) and i would LOVE to get back into beading when the money allows. i used to love making necklaces and earrings and bracelets.

indiblue 03-30-2011 01:03 AM

Love this thread, MiZ! I have been needing some new hobbies lately. Current ones include reading/researching on health and fitness (lol), cooking/baking, and reading. Glad several of you mentioned knitting- I have really been wanting to learn how to knit lately!

mandalinn82 03-30-2011 01:12 AM

My favorite hobbies are crafty type things that result in something useful: knitting (mostly hats and scarves to keep myself warm in winter), beading and jewelry-making, making yummy smelling bath products (I mold bars of soap, make bubble bath and lotion, and make a ton of scented bath salts, bath bombs, and solid perfumes), gardening edible fruits and veggies, and exploring culinary crafts that make good gifts (I bake bread, pastries, and all other kinds of baked goods, can fruit butters, all kinds of jams, and pickles, and even make my own cheese and yogurt).

Every year, just about all of my Christmas gifts except for immediate family are homemade. I start in the summer, canning up and/or drying all of the wonderful peaches, strawberries, apricots, pickling cucumbers, and other yummies that I can find. Then I move onto knitting, making apple butter, making jewelry and bath stuff, etc through the fall - in Winter, I bake several big batches of cookies, and everyone gets a giant basket full of half a year of homemade love.

Then, when the Christmas rush is over, I start knitting like mad, and make a ton of hats to donate to a local homeless services center - in bright colors for kids, in neutrals for adults. It's really heartwarming to see people around town wearing them, especially the kids. Keeps my hands busy until the Spring.

MiZTaCCen 03-30-2011 08:32 AM

I'm loving the scrap booking idea, I used to journal alot way back when but to sit down and concentraite on writing these days (off the computer) takes a lot of focus to do for me.

Icon - I'm a PS3 girl haha, the loser I was dating not too long ago has Xbox and we always played L4D1 and 2 it was alright. I think I'm going to get dead risen for PS3 this week and play that.

Also the weather is getting nicer, I should start getting back into Photography...I've never tried knitting lol.

prepping 03-30-2011 12:12 PM

... A little off topic, but since video games have been mentioned a few times I thought I'd ask. Okay, so I have tried Left 4 dead and to be honest it wasn't my thing. BUT, I love playing the Zombies in Call of Duty Black Ops on xBox Live. I'm a big wimp though and can only play it if my hubby is playing too or I get scared (LoL, ridiculous I know).

I'm looking for new games that would be interesting. So for those in the know, what would you recommend based on my history as follows (both XBOX and PS3): All Assassin's Creed games, Uncharted 1&2, Ratchet & Clank 1&2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Infamous, and of course the zombies in Call of Duty.

MiZTaCCen 03-30-2011 12:22 PM

I heard Assassin's creed is bad *** (from what I heard), I haven't tried it yet but it's on my list.
Infamous is pretty good I think you'd enjoy that one!
Batman I watch some guy play it, it looks pretty good and fun.

Oh also try Heavy Rain, it's not really action packed and in the beginning it's a little slow but my god it is an amazing game and well done too!

Try Resident Evil 5 (I love the resident evil series but 5 isn't as scary as the originals.)

XLMuffnTop 03-30-2011 12:36 PM

I'm not much of a console gamer but prefer PC games however, we do have a PS3. Assassin's creed is fun but hard. What I really liked was Force Unleashed, we've been meaning to get Unleashed 2 but haven't shelled out the money for it yet. Little Big World 1 and 2 are for all ages but seriously addictive.

I like crocheting (tons of tutorials on YouTube), gardening (though I suck), reading, etc. Libraries are free but if you feel compelled to get a reader, I love my Kindle. I play Scrabble and do crossword puzzles on it as well.

MiZTaCCen 03-30-2011 12:59 PM

Little big planet is AWESOME! I'm waiting for the second one to go down in price but omg I love that game haha

xLindsay46 03-30-2011 01:04 PM

I enjoy graphic design, and actually sell some of my designs on a handmade website. I'm also pretty crafty, and have thought about opening up another shop to sell iron on fabric appliques...but I'm not sure if I'm going to do that or not.

MindiV 03-30-2011 01:11 PM

I'm in the same boat...I don't have hobbies at all, other than playing Xbox occasionally. I'm not particularly crafty, and can't sew or knit. I don't have the patience for scrapbooking or even photo albums. I love puzzles, but don't have room for them right now in my house. I adore baking but don't have anyone to give stuff to.

Those first ones you mentioned are actually ones that I've played and enjoyed! :) I forgot to mention the God of War series though, they were addictive and a lot of fun! And I also enjoyed Little Big World and am waiting for the price to go down on the second too.

I haven't looked into Heavy Rain or the Resident Evil series. Maybe I should have posed this question in it's own thread as I would love to know what everyone likes out there! It seems like there are lots of games for men that involve shooting but I tend to like more of the adventure. Again, I'm a wimp. I can't shoot people. They have to be either aliens or zombies (if I have someone around). :p

Oh, and back to hobbies again, I recently got a Kobo e-reader and absolutely love it. Can't beat the real feel of a good book, but it's so convenient having everything in one tablet. It's neat.

Oh my bad haha I do that every so often and read the statement wrong :p

I can shoot everything, Heavy rain isn't really a shooter game it about this guy who had his son get kidnapped and you're trying to find the killer before you're son does it's really good! and it apparently has like 17 different endings to it.

I prefer real books haha, I can't get into this whole tech stuff by reading a book on a iphone or something. or even a book on the internet too much distractions for me.

PC is totally where its at

prepping- have you tried the tomb raider series? one of my all time favs, very adventure based

miz- have you tried an ebook reader? not that you needto or anything, and real books are cheaper lol, but i felt the same about wanting real books until i got my boyfriend the sony ereader and was converted and keep stealing it from him :D Also batman- very fun game

MiZTaCCen 03-31-2011 11:55 AM

Icon - No I haven't I'm pretty much set in my none technology ways for certain things...it's bad enough I've switched from writing in a journal to blogging haha.

Iconised Ghost 03-31-2011 01:51 PM

Lol i think switching from a paper diary to a journal is one of the few technological advances that hasnt hooked me xD Or maybe i am just too busy now for both :(

MiZTaCCen 03-31-2011 02:01 PM

I love the cute journal books is my thing though my blogging is something I usually do at work to keep my hands busy and to keep me distracted and not falling asleep haha. If I'm not multi-tasking I'll zone out and day dream and not notice anyone haha.

Bulletproof Heart 03-31-2011 02:59 PM

Perler Beads are fun to do and pass the time :) so is Sims 3 and reading/watching manga/anime which you can do online for free!

MiZTaCCen 03-31-2011 03:08 PM

Bullet - I love the sims...actually I want to get the medevil one haha, but right now money is kind of tight. I'm teaching myself to budget plus I need a new tire for my car...haha or else I'd totally go on a spending spree right now.
