As I mentioned above, I'm getting married (a month from tomorrow) and have been working to get back to the lower end of my customary weight range, if not a bit lower than that, in time for the big day. So far it's going according to plan. And although my ultimate goal is another few lbs below my wedding goal, which is a few pounds below where I currently am, I feel pretty darned hot right now, which is awesome, and something that hadn't happened in awhile.

So here's the dilemma -- I tried on my dress yesterday (which was juuust slightly snug when I bought it, and I THINK I was 5-8 lbs heavier than I am now at that point), and it's loose. Not horribly loose, but I have to puff up my chest a tiny bit to fill out the bust/hold it up. It looks pretty great right now, as it shows off my collarbones, stomach, and shoulders, and kind of obscures my hips/thighs, which are my main bugaboo and reason for wanting to continue losing weight in the first place.

So it looks good now, but if I lose another 5+ lbs, I can tell it's going to be TOO loose. As I see it, I have 3 options:

1. Keep trucking on the weight loss, and get the dress taken in. Because of the construction, this isn't a trivial task, and might be expensive, and I'm trying to keep to a pretty strict budget. Plus I'd worry that it wouldn't look as good after alteration. But I'd be skinnier!

2. Liberalize the calories a bit, keep exercising, but stop (or slow down) the loss and focus on weightlifting to get some nice arm definition.

3. Slow down the loss a LITTLE, and get a padded strapless bra that will fill out the places that I'm not filling out on my own anymore. The waist will still be loose but I think it's ok.

Thoughts?

Do you have a friend or family member that would be able to alter it? Or perhaps you can ask around and see if any friends have someone good. I had my prom dress altered way back when by a friend's mother and she was willing to accept a lot less than a tailor would! My grandmother lived too far away at the time, she would have done it for free!

Congrats on your wedding!

coldbrightday- keep truckin' and get the dress taken in. It will still look great! The seamstresses that do the dresses are fantastic. My suggestion would be to go to a seamstress outside of the bridal salon you bought your dress at. They are typically cheaper. This is your one and only big wedding day and you will cherish the pictures forever. You deserve to have your dress fit you as well as possible and feel beautiful on that day.

Just my 2 cents!

Coldbrightday - My dress was a little bit loose in the waist because my seamstress couldnt take it in properly....too much beading or something (or maybe its an excuse?) Do you generally loose pretty quickly? Im pretty sure that they'll need at least 2 weeks to alter your dress so you'd have to loose it in the next 2 weeks to even go in for alterations. Im always pro weight loss but you're getting down to the wire and the alterations may not be possible in a couple of weeks.

As for the honeymoon that sounds so awesome! We delayed ours for a year! :)

LindsB - Hey you! Good to see you and good to see that you havent given up. You have so much willpower

As for me....IM DOWN 40 POUNDS! Today is a phenomenal day :)) Im leaving today to go to Europe to see my husband (who is deployed) and to have our honeymoon finally. And the scale is being SO good to me. I cant believe that 2 years ago I weighed 40 pounds more than I do now.

Hi there... I'm so excited to have found this website :) It gives me such motivation!! I'm just starting my weight loss journey and it's great to have supportive people facing the same troubles!! I've realized that nothing is going to change unless i change it!! No more excuses...I'm ready to be the person I want to be!!

Lilly - CONGRATS! 40 pounds is a HUGE accomplishment! Enjoy it!!

soon2bskinny - welcome to the forum! It's a great place to stay motivated! :)

I hit the 45 pound mark today. So excited! However I need to examine when I eat breakfast. I started teaching yesterday and the school I teach at starts earlier than the other schools I've been at. I don't mind this as I'm an early bird (in fact I prefer an earlier start and earlier finish). I'm generally leaving the house at 6:30-6:45 and eating breakfast at 5:15-5:30. Problem is that through graduate school, student teaching (where the school started at 9:20!) and the summer, I got used to eating breakfast at 7:30ish and lunch at 12. I don't get to have lunch until around 12 now and when I start working with children next week (I'm a resource room/special ed teacher) I may not be able to eat lunch until 1:00 at the latest. I can't keep eating breakfast so early because I'm starving by 10! I ate lunch a little earlier today, but now I'm starving again about an hour and a half before dinner :/ I think I might move breakfast to the end of my morning routine, just before I leave. It's just hard for me to do because right after waking up and weigh-in, breakfast has ALWAYS been first. Adding in the weigh-in a few months ago was hard for me! I was programmed to just go eat breakfast as soon as I wake up because I always wake up hungry

Lilly- Wow! What an accomplishment! You are already so lovely! I'm sure your hubby is dying to see you! I hope you have a great time!

I have recently started turbofire and it is kicking my butt! I really hope it can help me shed some lbs. I'm staying off the scale for a few weeks because it just makes me crazy. I'd be happy with 10 lbs off at this point!!

clivehamilton7 09-13-2011 02:12 AM

Wow! Great job. You really want to lose weight. Just keep it up and don't give ever give up.

sontaikle 09-13-2011 06:08 AM

154 again! I thought it might be a fluke yesterday, but I guess not! :)

liliesinmycereal 09-14-2011 07:19 AM

Congrats Sontaikle!! :D

I'm probably going to weigh myself tomorrow and hopefully I can be lower than 155. My body is sore so I don't know if it's going to happen.

sontaikle 09-15-2011 05:28 PM

Thanks!! :D How did your weigh-in today go?

I FIT INTO A SIZE 5/6. I went shopping today for new work clothes and I had to get a 5/6! HOLY CRAP!

My thoughts exactly! Congrats on breaking through your plateau! That's so great! :)

I'm a bad 3FCer and completely forgot about this thread! Boo!

I've been steadily losing these last couple of weeks. I'm now down to 153.8! It's funny because the elliptical machine at the gym is automatically set to 155 as your weight when you get on. I was super excited to change that DOWN a pound instead of what I usually do - move it up a few pounds.

I'm 3.8 pounds from my goal weight, but I don't think this is where I'll want to stop. Still not making any plans until I get there, but that's where I am right now.

KatieC87 09-20-2011 02:20 AM

So, my coworker from he!! is back from her 2 week vacation today. I've posted about my issues with coworkers and my weight loss in the past, but this woman just gets worse and worse.

Today, she and another coworker are standing at the copy machine. The one says to her, "Katie is getting so tiny!" I said, "No, no, I'm a long way from tiny." She said, "I don't know about that. Doesn't she look great?" To which Lucifer gets this tight lipped expression and marches back to her desk.

Later, she had turned the thermostat down to 74 degrees, and it was freezing in the office. Multiple people complained, so I turned it up. Lucifer admits to turning it down, and when I say something about it being too cold, she says, "Well, you're wearing such a skimpy outfit!" :-O I made some comment back about how I'm not wearing sweaters to work in September because she wants to keep the air on, but come on! Who says that to a coworker in the middle of the entire office! And I was wearing dress slacks and a sleeveless shirt. Maybe that is "skimpy"... if you're a nun! Skimpy to me is a too short skirt or dress or something that shows cleavage and/or midriff. It wasn't even a low-cut top.

Grrrrr! She just really gets my blood boiling sometimes. I have to keep telling myself that it's all about jealousy that what I'm doing is working and what she's doing (a whole lot of nothin') isn't.

By the way, I came home and told my husband about it. I said, "Don't hate me because you can't dress like this!" David said, "She could, but it would be a crime against nature." I know it's not nice, but it does make me feel better. :)
