Default Chocolates...I want to eat them all!

Hey guys!

I'm in college and my mom just sent me a care package from home, filled with chocolate and candy from my native country. I think my mom believes I can eat it in moderation, but I can't. I just have visions of me eating it all in three sittings. I was just wondering how you guys deal with temptation that is right in front of you? Any advice?

Give it away, keep a couple. We wll need our fix once in a while, but if you don't have a lot of it, you cant binge on it!

Yes, give it away, or keep the two pieces!Yesterday, hubby and I who are both on a diet walked to the dollar store just so we could split one regular package of reese cups! I had to put it in with my calories, and I had to exercise apart from my regular routine to do it, but you need chocolate once in awhile. Just don't set yourself up for failiure by keeping them all.

I'm terrible with chocolate. My boyfriend and his 4 yr old daughter keep it in the house all the time. So theres a tin full of chocolates and sweets and biscuits. When I'm peckish its so easy for me to dip into that tin. But I have my own little tin that I keep full of WW bars and low calorie versions of what they have. Weight watchers and slim fast have some really good choices. So I just have something out of that tin instead. If you're living with others then let them help themselves to your treats?

Is there a social group on campus for people from your native country? Go bearing chocolate from home and you will have made some immediate new friends. Eat a couple of your favorites, then share!

When someone gives me a box of chocolates, I never open it. I give it to the first person I encounter when I go out shopping. It could be someone in the parking lot or the greeter at the store. LOL

Sometimes I give it to my nastiest neighbor. She needs to go on a diet.

I like aimee's idea. Haha. I'm the same way. I can't have chocolate, sweets, chips, pizza, whatever in the house. Why? Because moderation isn't my thing. I see it and eat it in mass quantity and then feel terrible so you aren't alone. I say have some friends over and share your candy that way. You can have a piece or two but the friends there will deplete your candy stash because "they're just so good. you have to try one!" Pawning off the candy and having a little bit. Essentially having your cake and eating it too. But with candy.

Pawn it off is right. Give to your friends I wouldn't give them to strangers... then you'd be the "stranger with candy," which is a little creepy IMO :P

Cool Dark Does It Best For Me!

I have found out (just recently) that when I eat the more expensive (now I'm not being a snob here but just making an observation) dark chocolate, usually from Germany or Belgium, I am more satisfied with less than if I have our own Hershey's milk chocolate brand. I feel like I am being "un-American" since I firmly believe in buying "Made In USA" but the chocolatiers in Europe really are onto something. So, I am going to satisfy my chocolate sweet tooth from now on with dark chocolate. I had a Lindt dark chocolate with orange and almond slivers last week that was really good. I ate the whole thing but it really did the trick. I didn't want any more the rest of the night. I can't say that about some of these milk chocolate "melt in your mouth" mini bars.....

PS Chocolate does have some caffeine in it as well but I thought I heard that it has serotonin in it too. Did I hear that right? Maybe that is why it is such a good mood lifter besides.

Chocolate affects the levels of several neurotransmitters including serotonin but does not contain them. Google the neuro effects of chocolate, it's a pretty cool read but be warned it will make you want some

I agree with all the ladies above. Enjoy a couple pieces, but don't keep it.

I find that when I'm craving chocolate, I make myself a chocolate protein shake. It curbs my craving and it's good for me. (sometimes I add in a banana or peanut butter to mix it up).

I agree with everyone else - it might be hard, but give it away! I find it's best to go to the men's halls (if you can) and give it away. They'll be thrilled to eat sweets and think you're awesome. One time my aunt gave me leftover cake from a party (I'm talking 10+ slices) and I gave it all away to the guys. They still remember me from it. Just a thought. Keep your absolute favorites, though.

Thanks for all the ideas, guys! I ate a few of my favourites and gave the rest to friends. The chocolates are from Belgium, so they were happy to have them!

Good for you! That is what I do, I either throw away candy after one piece or I give to other people because I know I will eat too much of it if I let it sit around!
