do you take the scale seriously during TOM?

Hi Everyone,

I'm on bc and thus know EXACTLY when it is my TOM. And yet, i am so frustrated at myself during that time when i dont see a loss even though my scale is telling me that my total body water percent has gone up!

Do you take the scale seriously during TOM? I'm going to stay on plan, but im sad that the scale isnt reflecting my efforts!

I gained 2 lbs during the days leading up to TOM and haven't lost it yet, a week later. This is my first TOM so I'm trying not to even take the scale seriously now. Maybe stick to worrying about BFP and measurements instead? I found that to be much more heartening (my waist has gone down 1/3-1/2 an inch over the past week; weight has stayed the same).

I still weigh myself but I don't focus on it, kind of like every other day I weigh myself. I gain a lot while I'm on my period. The great thing though is that after it's gone, I always have a nice drop in weight. It's like a surprise at the end of TOM.

I don't actually find the scale moves at all when I'm on TOM. I look and feel bloated but I'm pretty sure my scale say the same weight I'm at on TOM as I am off of it. I'll have to put it to the test next month.

I do, for some reason TOM never stops me from losing......

misstraveller 02-17-2011 01:22 PM

Yup I take it seriously... and I stay with it, gives me the motivation to not say to heck with it b/c it's my TOM.

It's just a tool. And it's doing its job. I bloat during TOM and I know I'm retaining fluid. The scale tells me it's usually 3-5 lbs worth. Then TOM is done it is goes away and the scale reflects that with -3 to 5 lbs gone.

Just carry on as usual.

I don't even way myself during that time. My TOM started on Monday. And ended today but I'm still waiting until tomorrow or Saturday to weigh myself.

I watch it but honestly I go up anywhere from 2-5lbs during my TOM. Everyone's body is different. I always have a BIG whoosh down about 3 days afterwards and everything is all peachy keen. I've gotten to the point where I look foward to it so I can see that big whoosh down! I stay on plan 100% and just keep pushing forward!

I'm on TOM right now and I'm still weighing myself... and letting it get to me. I know not to, but for some reason I'm letting my emotions get the best of me. On the bright side, seeing the number up makes me even more motivated to stay on plan!

Usually during my TOM I'll lose 1/2 lb to 1 lb if I'm being really strict with myself or it'll stay the same, over a two week time period, and then I'll go back to losing the 3 or 4 lbs/week that I've generally been averaging.

badassey 02-17-2011 04:01 PM

The first day of my period, I usually bloat to the size of a killer whale. The next day, I always weigh the same as the day before but I feel much less bloated. I never take my weight seriously during my period.

I, too, am on BC and know when my period is coming. I try my best to stay off the scale during that time because I know my body just goes into crazy-mode. I normally get my period on Wednesday or Thursday and it lasts throughout the weekend. Monday morning, I usually hop on the scale. I wouldn't say it affects my weight loss... but during the actual period, my weight just seems weird. Afterwards, I usually lose just as much or as little as I do when I'm not on my period.

Hells to the no! That b****** always lies during TOM... :)

surrendertolis 02-17-2011 07:55 PM

I'm on BC too, so I pretty much know when I'm getting mine (should be any minute now, actually lol). This is the first time in a long time that I've been weighing myself regularly every week, so this will be the first TOM that I'll notice any kind of difference. I guess I'll find out when I weigh in on Saturday morning to see whether I've lost anything this week or not.
