Exercising at Home

Hello out there,
One of my biggest barriers to working out is that I don't have a gym pass, and it's too cold to do much outside (aside from walk!), so I was wondering if anyone can recommend some workout routines that you can do at home, that you've seen results from?
I have some pilates DVDs but I don't feel like they challenge my body enough.
Thanks =)
Andrea

Check out youtube for work out routines! Get a couple of 5lb weights and a mat and you'll be set!

I am currently using the Biggest Loser 30day jump start. I am horrible at finding time to work out, and this one starts with 10 minutes at a time and adds 10 every week. Much easier to find 10 minutes at a time than an hour. And lets not even talk about the conversation that happens in my head about it. I can always just say to myself "its only 10 minutes more than what you were already doing" works wonders!

Can you cross country ski or snow shoe?

Biggest loser has some good DVD's.

My favorite is the Carido Maxx DVD. That will have you sweating like crazy.

Denise Austin is also my fav. Her videos are meduim to high impact and the workouts are generally 20 mins cardio and 20mins toning.

For the first two months I exercised purely at home and had great results =) If you want something simple you could dance! Dancing is fun and an easy way to burn calories =D or you could hula hoop, which burns tons. If you don't actually own a hula hoop, you can just do a spinning motion with your hips and pretend ^_^ works all the same. You can always google some routines, push ups, arm exercises, leg exercises, ab workouts are all easy to do at home, while watching TV or listening to music. If you don't have weights, use soup cans! And you can always walk in place. My favorite DVD's are Turbo Jam, and Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. I also do at home belly dancing, and that gets your heart up fast!

I've lost 100 pounds exercising mostly at home. I also used the Biggest Loser dvd's and when I needed more of a challenge I started Turbo Jam and moved my way up to Chalean Extreme (weights) then to Insanity, and now I'm doing Turbo Fire and want to start doing P90x.

I don't know if you have Direct TV but they have a channel called Fit TV that is ALL workouts and exercise 24/7. AWESOMENESS! Just discovered it last week and my tv staaays on it.

I can just set up a routine by autotuning my tv to turn to a program at a specific time. You can never get bored because there are so many programs: Namaste Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Belly Dance, Hip Hop Abs, Gilad, Cardio Blast are some I do.

As others have said, lots of exercise require no equipment or gym just your own body weight and stuff you have around the house.

I don't go to the gym but get my workouts in through Fit TV, my stationary bike and ab lounge as well as youtube videos and websites that show you workouts to do using your own body and maybe dumbbells. I also sometimes just walk around my house continuously, pace while I'm on the phone or go up and down the stairs a couple times, even dancing...ANYTHING to be active.

Not sure if anyone has rec. it...but I definitely get results with Jillian Michaels 30 day shred..I guarantee you she will kick your booty!

KawaiiCandie 12-05-2010 08:13 AM

wow, that tv channel sounds awesome!

i'm also doing the 30 day shred. it was recommended to me on here, and i like it, but it's hard! (for me) :p i really like it cuz it's only 20 minutes and since it's circuits i can be like "okay we're done with this one... thank god! ... okay done... one more... one more..." and before i know it it's over, and that's great cuz i HATE working out. lol. you also need some small dumbells for it.

I dont know about other cable stations, but Time Warner Cable has Exercise On Demand. Its free with TWC. There are probably 100 different work out videos on there. They are broken into categories (Abs, 10 minute work outs, yoga and pilates, etc.) TWC also has FitTV with basic cable.

Also, I do P90X. Its a great workout!

I workout at home 3 days a week. I love my FIRM Cardio Sculpt DVD and I also use Walk Away the Pounds, 30 Day Shred, and a few FIRM dance DVD's.

alot of digital cable/satellite packages with VOD have some sort of exercise/fitness content available. Just search for it. I have Cox Communications. I forgot what the VOD channel is called.

I use the Jillian Michael's DVD's I find it to be much easier if I do her 30 minute ones then the whole hour ones. Starting Jan 2 two of my buddies and I back home are doing the P90x challenge might be a little more fun for me to fit that in now that I will have competition. :)

Lately I've lacked though on my workouts, but I never go to the gym. I'm way too antisocial for it as someone told me. lol but Biggest Loser DVD's, Jillain DVD's. I did slim and 6 for a while was okay I enjoyed it for the first two weeks..lol I get bored easily though.

iiholly 12-27-2010 12:29 PM

I do Jillian Michael's dvds as well, they work pretty well. You need 5 lb weights and probably a work out matt. I did her Yoga dvd the first time yesterday, bout killed me. Best yoga I've ever done though, because a lot of dvds it just feel like it isn't enough.

I recently got a dancercise dvd set at target for $15. It has a jazz dvd, a bellydance dvd, a beginner's hip hop dvd, and a salsa dvd. I cannot dance for the life of me so I think it's fun lol. I do them by myself, the make me sweat, I pretend I look like the people on the screen and not like an idiot spinning around and around...lol. It's mainly cardio and it's just for fun. But it was cheap, it has 4 different styles that are only like 30 minutes each. All and all a good buy I think...

I have 2 children under 2 so working out at home is my only option! Generally I do 45-60 mins on my exercise bike and also use my Wii Fit for 15-30 mins.

Blcarter84 12-31-2010 02:09 PM

I've always used my Ultimate Tae Bo DVD which I LOVE!! And has worked wonders. Tomorrow I am starting P90X which I know will work also

Mickeypnd 12-31-2010 08:08 PM

can can go to youtube and watch many videos on there as well as exercise tv which i have through my cable provider. they all work great and have different episodes for different body parts you want to work on!

TooManyDimples 12-31-2010 08:45 PM

I have a lot of exercise DVD's. I have 3 Jillian Micheals, I have Zumba, I have Turbo Jam, I have a Kickboxing workout that I really like that's from the 10 minute solution collection and I have 3 Biggest Loser workouts. I have a stair stepper which I can do while watching TV. I got a Total Gym off Craigslist for super cheap so I have that for strength. I also just ordered an exercise bike and I can't wait till it gets here. =)
