First 5k!

  • I'm doing my first 5k on Thursday! Any suggestions? I get horrible side stitches- Does anyone else get them? What did/do to stop them?
  • Congrats! I have done 4 5Ks. I walk/jog them. I get side stitches pretty bad on my right side. I make sure to eat a little extra potassium, drink lots of water. also, breathe deeply (not shallow) and breathe on the opposite foot that's normal for you. example: If you breathe in when right foot goes down, change it. Breathe in when LEFT foot goes down. It changes how deeply you breathe and affects your diaphragm and how it's connected inside. Good luck and W2G!
  • Thanks! I'm beyond excited and will have to try the suggestions!
  • I am also doing my first 5k tomorrow as well. I'm anxious and excited!

Good luck!! Hope yours is dry! Mine looks like rain and COLD!
  • My advice is that you dont have to run it all!
  • Good luck. I did my first one this past Spring and I loved it. I got tendonitis in my foot just before but I ran anyways because I had worked so hard. It took me forever but I did it and I finished at a sprint. It feels so good afterwards. Have fun Princess and let us know how it went.
  • Well it went great! I think I jogged about half and walked the other half. A lot of the "hard core" runners were cheering me on which gave me a lot of motivation! It rained the whole time but it actually felt pretty nice

How long did it take you? I am going to start running them in January
