Sookie...
have any of yall read the Sookie Stackhouse series? I bought book one last night and I just CAN'T get into it yet. I think i'm about 75 pages in. i'm hoping it gets better, but so far... it's not my thing!
My sister-in-law LOVES the Sookie Stackhouse series so I gave them a shot. I read the first one and, to be honest, I was not impressed at all. I wasn't engaged in the characters or the story so I haven't read any of the other books.
I'm on book 7. I really like them. I enjoy the humor of them. Occassionally they are a little too sexual for me but I can get past those parts. I find myself actually giggling while I read them sometimes, its not often that a book can do that.

My sister is really into them. She's read them over and over and is always there to buy the latest on release day. Me, however, not interested.
I love these books. Love them. They're light, but still require you to think.
And I usually hate romance novels, but apparently if you throw vampires in there, I'm okay with it :) |
I'm glad you used the word "light," because I felt there was somethin off about them. It was definitely that I was expecting something heavier and more drawm out. She cut right to the chase! Lol
Is this the Southern Vampire Mysteries novels? Or is there a whole other complete set called Sookie Stackhouse that I had no idea about??
I LOVE "weird world" fiction (most subgenres of fantasy and science fiction), and even read children's books in the genre, but I couldn't get into either the Twilight series or the Sookie Stackhouse books. I'm not exactly sure why.
I like the Southern Vampire novels, but they are definitely are light reading. The later ones are not as entertaining as the early ones to me.
I love them... I started watching True Blood before reading the books so I kind of knew what to expect, which I think is what got me through the first book but after that I loved the books and Ive read all of them so far in one month!
i heard that they are not at all like the tv show and that if you watch the show first, you wont like them cuz they are really "light" (stupid)... i have a friend who's really into them... i've never read them and, though i do like vampire stuff (i have read all the anne rice books!) i don't think it'd be my cup of tea... even the tv show left me kinda lukewarm...

[QUOTE=KawaiiCandie;3580561]i heard that they are not at all like the tv show and that if you watch the show first, you wont like them cuz they are really "light" (stupid)... QUOTE]
I don't think that's true. The show is a bit "darker" but I think that's mostly because of the visuals. The first book and the first season are pretty similar, its after that they started to diverge a bit, but that's with anything Hollywood takes from a book. I would definately put Twilight into the more "stupid" category, but that's b/c the main characters are teenagers and Sookie's a bit older. |
haha, well i'm just going with what i heard :p
on a side note, i did read and like twilight, but that's just because i have the brain of a 14y.o. .... :p (and i also read the first 3 books before it got made into a movie so there wasn't the whole "negative/stupid" stigma around them... *shrug*) |
I really enjoy these books, much more than I liked the Twilight series (can't deal with whiny Bella). As the others have said, they are light reading. That's perfect for me because I'm a lazy reader and am all about the fluff. LOL
I started reading the books cause I liked the TV series, but i really like the show much better :/
that being said i read all the books cause i hate not finishing a series and i like to know what to look forward to with the show :D |
