diet bracelets?

in one of the MANY diet and fitness blogs i browse regularly, i read about a few ladies who used bracelets to keep track of their diets. the bracelets are color coded either for food group or calorie count. if you're counting calories, each color bracelet represents a certain amount of calories. if you're trying to eat all your food groups, color represents a group and each bracelet a serving. when you eat that group, or amount of calories, you move the bracelet from one wrist to the other, so by the end of the day, you've moved each bracelet.

has anyone ever done this before? have you found it successful?

or...is anyone willing to give it a shot with me and we can keep eachother accountable?

food journals have never worked for me, so i figured i'd give this a try. i went to the craft store and got beading. here are my bracelets and the breakdown i have (aiming to eat all my food groups first, then once i get adjusted, i'll hit calories)

water (blue)=8
fruit (pink) =2
veggies (green)=3
protein (black) =3
dairy (clear) =2
grains (gold)=4

Wow, that seems like quite a fun idea! I won't join you, but I'll be interested to see how it goes! When I saw the thread I was thinking more along the lines of wearing a bracelet to remind yourself of what you're doing, and I guess it is kind of like that in a way only more organised.

I think my toddler would just rip them off my wrist and destroy them, but otherwise I'd try it. They are cute and look like they could go with any outfit!!! Why not make weight loss stylish?? anyway, very awesome!

What works, works! I'm happy with just plain electronic logging of foods (I like to keep an eye on the nutrients, not just the calories and carbs) but I use a bracelet to mark weightloss milestones ~ 1 bead per stone (14lbs) lost.

good luck with it!

I think they're very pretty! I tried something kind of similar once when I was in a real bad body image funk and having a hard time doing right by myself. I read it in a mag. You wear a rubber band on your wrist and ever time you have a negative thought about yourself "I'm so fat!" or whatever, you snap the band and replace it with a good thought. "I'm such a good friend/mom/wife!" "I'm so good at my job!" IT'S AMAZINGLY EFFECTIVE! Good luck to you.

I tried it, but just for my 8 glasses per day. At the time, we were using bangles, and I found they just bothered me (the only jewelry I seem to tolerate are necklaces and earrings!). Some friends at work tried it, though, and it worked great for them.

I see you're using elastic bracelets - I might tolerate that better. I also like how you've colour-coded your bracelets! Good luck!

Btw Rosinante - I also like your idea of using a beaded bracelet to mark weightloss milestones. Hmmm... I might adapt that to a necklace somehow...

That is an awesome idea! I'm totally hopping on this bandwagon when I get back in town. I think it will help me most with water and fruits and veggies. I can never keep track!

Agreed!

I think it's a really creative idea!

Sounds fun, I might try that out myself. I'm a visual person, so anything with me actually seeing the changes I'm making works for me :)

This is an interesting idea, I think I would try it to track water, protein, carbs and fat that I am eating as those are the main things I track.

I'm a crafty person and I have a lot of beads...hmm.. but I would need some stretchy string.

I hate things on my wrist, so it wouldn't work for me...but its an interesting idea. I also like that its a constant reminder of where you are in your day :)

hmm! I love this idea! I might try to come up with something that would work for me!

That's a very innovative idea! I never would have thought of something like that.
