Default How Do I Figure Out My Goal Weight?

I feel like in your teens and early 20s (I'm 22), you're supposed to be thinner than the supposed "goal weight" of someone in their late 20s/early 30s. I haven't been down in the normal range for years, so I have no idea what my goal weight should be. I have no desire to be super-skinny. I've never found that attractive. I find Kate Winslet's current body ideal -- thin and curvy but not skinny.

Why not just set a midterm goal and work towards that, then re-evaluate? We are at similar weights and heights and have the same goal set right now. I plan on going for 150 as my upper limit and seeing how I feel. I have no desire to get super skinny, but I have no idea what my body will be like at 150 because I have never been there as an adult! I may be thrilled just with that (I probably will!), or I might feel I need another 5-10 to be happy. Maybe just wait til you get down there before worrying too much about it.

That's great advice. I set 150 for the same reason. Thank you for the response. I don't know why I always get so wrapped up in trying to figure out my ideal weight before I hit it.

Do some searches and see what the "recommendation" is to start. Once you start losing, you'll be able to have a better idea of where you want to be. In the past when I did Weight Watchers, 119 was a recommendation for me and once I started losing, I realized that was too low and I'd be happy in the mid-120's.

When I first started I was set on getting back to my high school weight. 140-145. Now I'm thinking that I am 1-2 inches taller than I was back then. And I'm not looking to be super skinny either. I think I'm gonna go until I feel good!!

It's so hard to know how your body will change as you lose. I've lost nearly 13 pounds in the last 6 weeks and I still don't notice a difference.
I've read that it would be "healthy" for me to be 98 pounds. That sounds crazy and I doubt that I'd want to be that small!
I think the re-evaluation thing is the best way to go. I think I'm also not necessarily aiming for a certain weight, but just knowing that I feel and look good for myself.

I once got to 137-139 and still had a lot to lose, apparently I'm much more small boned (even compared to fellow Asian friends, my bone structure seems to be ridiculously tiny.. buried under mounds of fat) than I previously thought. I put 110 as the 'official' goal, but I guess it could be anywhere from 120 to 105?

I'm not going BMI 16 like Asian idols tho. The under-normal weight cutoff for my height is about 105 lbs, so I don't know the higher-goal weight, but I know I'm not going under 105.

Ranbowstripe, me, too! When I was supehealthy and my body was ripped, I was 17 years old and still weighed 106. I seriously had a 6 pack and biceps to die for because of gymnastics, dance and cheerleading. Now, I just turned 30 and the thought of being 106 again freaks me out because I feel like that would be waaaayyy too skinny. Your body changes as you get older and it's just not realistic for me to weigh 98 lbs.

I have changed my goal like, a million times lol. Largely in part because, like some of the rest of you, I had no idea what I would look like at anything less than 180. 170 sounded like a dream to me...but when I reached that mark, I still had more to go, so I set my heart on 160. And when I got there I still had more to go! So for now, my goal is 150 and I think I'll stop there...if I ever get there, kinda stalled right now! Lol.

I calculated what my normal BMI should be, and went from there to figure out my goal weight. I would love to get into the 130s, but if I don't that's okay. Right now I am just focused on getting in the 170's ^_-.
