When did I become a lightweight?

Hey ladies, this isn't really so much of a question as a poll, I suppose. I was just wondering, has your alcohol tolerance level changed since you started losing weight? I know that for me it has, and it is kind of depressing. I get drunk way faster than I ever did before and always forget and end up just past the comfort zone sometimes. Am I alone in this? Or was this a side effect I didn't think about beforehand.

Don't worry, I'm not all shook up about it, I just think it is kind of funny how different my tolerance is from what it used to be. Alas, it looks like I will never again be the reigning shot-taking queen!

Taylor86 07-29-2010 11:09 PM

Yup, totally.

One glass of wine and I am tipsy.

AmberD 07-30-2010 12:00 AM

Me too!

I don't know if it has so much to do with me weighing less now as it has to do with me just drinking less in general.

I like to think of myself as a really cheap date now :)

freedomreins 07-30-2010 04:07 AM

Mine did! 20lbs ago it wasn't worth drinking because it cost too much to get tipsy! Now a few drinks and I am good to go! :D

Feral 07-30-2010 07:59 AM

I often have to remind myself I can't drink like I used to....

except I try to and it gets me in trouble.

LOL

HaleyisLove 07-30-2010 08:23 AM

um I cant drink anything anymore...I use to be able to drink all day with the guys...was never the drunk girl...now I always forget because I rarely drink...and I'm always that girl...

I always get sick now... and typically I have a 2 or 3 mixed drinks thats it...

I'm fine and then all of a sudden the drunkeness hits me... I guess a 290 lb girl can handle it... a 165 lb girl not so much

garstar 07-30-2010 08:53 AM

For me nothing has changed, it all depends on how much I eat that day. If I have a filling dinner - then it takes me more. I suppose I've always been an easy drunk though, so maybe I don't' know.

Haley that stinks!

singforthedayx 07-30-2010 09:07 AM

I haven't really had anything to drink since I started this (I'm not such a big drinker to begin with, and it's been so ridiculously hot here that the idea of drinking and making myself flushed ...which happens no matter how little I drink... just doesn't appeal to me) But, I was already a lightweight at 220, I'll probably be a lighterweight at 207 and less.... we shall see. :p

Samantha417 07-30-2010 09:33 AM

I'm a huge lightweight now. I had one bottle of twisted tea last saturday, and I was completely buzzed. Before I lost weight, it would probably take me like....3 to get a buzz going.

I'm sure just one long island iced tea would do the trick now hahah!

StephanieM 07-30-2010 10:42 AM

I've noticed! I try to drink like I used to, because that's what I was used to doing and it spells trouble for me!

A few weeks ago I threw up outside a bar because I kept taking shots, and that was normal for me before. Now I have a couple drinks and I'm pretty done.

It's nice to be a cheap drink, I can't finish a mickey of whiskey anymore! hehe

misstraveller 07-30-2010 11:21 AM

My boyfriend loves going out with me! We go out for mexican, and he usually gets the other half of my SMALL margarita, b/c that's all it takes! :)

Phoenix301 07-30-2010 11:57 AM

I haven't lost enough or drank enough to really know, but, its not a surprise that you would have lower tolerance at a lower weight. Think about it, more weight means more dilute blood alcohol levels, simply because there is more volume to your body. Less weight and all the sudden that alcohol is more 'concentrated' because it doesn't have all the room in the world to go before your liver metabolizes it. It also depends on how often and how much you drink as well..

Ditto.

I've always been a lightweight, but it's worse now. I do think it has to do though with drinking less in general, so when I do drink it hits me harder.

I've also noticed that with the healthy eating, I get worse hangovers! It's awful! I noticed this because I'd been getting really bad hangovers whenever I drank, then one day I ate a bunch of unhealthy, high calorie, off plan food before drinking, and the next day I barely had so much as a headache! Anyone else experiance this?

girlonfire 07-30-2010 02:28 PM

Um, I've always been a lightweight. I got the nickname of "two beer Chloe" my freshman year.

My already low tolerance is going to get lower???

My friends think it's funny to call me Two Can Sam

Hah, I wish had this "problem!" I have the tolerance of a college frat boy on rush week. Nothing has changed and it's expensive! lol

Natasha1534 08-03-2010 01:14 AM

Okay, I'm out of my 20s but I just HAD to comment on this thread. Before I started my weight loss journey I was the kind of girl that could keep up w/ the boys. And when I say this, I mean I could keep up w/ some guys that I'm pretty sure are alcoholics or verging on alcoholics. A normal night was 5 beers, 7 shots of whiskey, and whatever else we could get our hands on...and everybody else would be drunk as a bicycle and I'd be up walking around just fine. One night 2 of my male friends decided they wanted to see me puke...they each dropped $90 at the bar before it happened. That's nearly a $200 tab!!! HOLY CRAP!!!

Now I rarely drink...2 glasses of wine and I'm lightheaded. I'm worried b/c one of those guys is coming back into town this month and we're supposed to get together "like old times" and I know that I'm not going to be able to hang like I used to. And he's not going to let me live it down, no way no how. :(

It's just a more humorous version of "wasted off my @$$" ;) Or, as my mother would say, "f***ed up as a football bat." ;)

LiannaKole 09-12-2010 11:45 PM

Oh gosh, I didn't think about that. I mean, it's obvious (lighter person, less tolerance), but...

For me, my alcohol tolerance has always been at about zero. When I first started drinking, I'd have half a beer and feel it. At my heaviest weight of 207 I could have a whole beer and feel a little bit of a buzz coming on (pathetic, but true).

No matter my weight, my friend (who is a good 55 lbs lighter than me even after I lost 30 lbs) can drink me under the table (not hard). She's so petite! Even when I was 207 and she was 112, I was out after 2 rum and cokes and she went on to 4 and was kinda buzzed! Never lived that down...

Recently (after losing about 20 lbs) I had one mixed drink and a beer with a friend and I pretty much passed out. Did NOT expect that at all.

If my alcohol tolerance decreases significantly, I'll be out after one serving of anything. -sigh- I already get a hard time for it.

Although it does mean I have to spend less to feel buzzed. :)

rschroed 09-13-2010 12:12 AM

Yeah, it's awful. I can't get through a whole mojito without swaying on my feet, which is ridiculous.

I think it's not only that I'm lighter, but that I drink alcohol so seldom now--the calories only seem worth it when there's call for an emergency girls' night, and maybe an occasional glass of wine. My tolerance is way down 'cause of that.

Also, I never noticed before that bars were so cold (when not well-populated?). My skinny friends used to complain about it, but I take it as an NSV that I now get cold in bars, too (and restaurants, movie theaters, etc.).

BassAckwards 09-13-2010 08:10 AM

It takes less for me now too ... oh well. Cheaper that way haha.
And here is a fun calculator for blood alcohol level haha ... yeah I'm a nerd.
