Back dimples?

So I was just reading the thread on what people are excited about for losing weight, and I noticed the topic of back dimples a lot. I have a question about it--but didn't want to hijack the thread!

Anyway, I always thought back dimples were bad. Like butt dimpesl (yikes!). So what's the deal? Where do they come from, what positive/negative/neutral things have you heard about them?

I've never really given them much thought. I was just reading about them after seeing your thread and apparently they are genetic. You can have them whether you are overweight or thin. Supposedly you are born w/ them or you aren't. But it's interesting that they are supposed to be "sexually desirable," according to Wikipedia.

i heard that back dimples are a result of low body fat and exercised muscles. and from what I have known they are thought to be attractive. i haven't hearad too much about them though, and I didn't even think they were something everyone had until i googled and found the things I stated in the first sentence. idk, i would like too know more too.

I find them attractive but I would have never have called them "dimples".

I'm not too sure that they have anything to do with how skinny you are or anything, because I still had mine when I was up to 210 in weight and I was completely inactive and I still have them now. I think it's just genetic.

I'm pretty sure they are genetic just like the dimples on your face

paris81 07-04-2010 10:30 AM

Very interesting! Thank ladies!

Alicia87 07-04-2010 11:28 AM

They are genetic. My boyfriend's mom n brother have them. They stay there no matter what size you are.

stellarosa27 07-04-2010 11:51 AM

I've always had them, no matter what weight I was. They've become more pronounced as I've gotten smaller, but I'm going to go with everyone else and say they're genetic :)

I've always heard them referred to as the "Dimples of Venus," but I'm not sure where that came from.

SarahD140 07-04-2010 01:16 PM

my sister has them... I dont... so sad

ap90 07-04-2010 01:29 PM

I've always had them too at every weight. They are definitely becoming deeper though as I lose weight. I also have face dimples. Any correlation between the two?

Paramedic 07-05-2010 12:06 AM

Ap90, I also have face dimples along with the back dimples. I think it'd be pretty amusing if you automatically had face dimples if you had back dimples. :)

I wonder if they're at all connected?

GoldenLeaf 07-05-2010 12:08 AM

Genes. I have them, and have them no matter what my weight (though I do think they're more pronounced when I'm slender). My daughter was born with them too.

I have face dimples but they're subtle. They don't show up unless I smile, although I don't have to smile wide for them to appear.

kaelah 07-05-2010 01:59 PM

I had a face dimple on one side but it seems to have disappeared over the years. I don't think I have back dimples, sadly, but both of my sisters do. The jerks stole my genes! :P

I have them.. but they only show when I get thinner (under the 150s). That's when my BF noticed and pointed them out to me.. From everyone that I've heard talk about them, they're supposed to be attractive. I don't really mind having them lol, but they don't show as much when I'm bigger which seems strange to me now.

TJFitnessDiva 07-05-2010 04:42 PM

I have them! I never saw them until I got thinner though....actually I didn't really see them until last night

I have face dimples but not the back ones ( I had to go check in the mirror about my back! isn't that lame  )

I googled it also, and only saw positive comments about them, that they contributed to a well-exercised body's attraction to the opposite sex (I am major censoring  )

RienQueNny 07-05-2010 07:22 PM

Oh that's interesting! I remember a friend being so impressed that I had "back dimples" even though I was obese, and she was complaining that she didn't have any. It never crossed my mind that it could be genetic.
I have them but I don't have facial dimples... And I noticed they are becoming more pronounced as I'm losing weight but they were definitely there when I was bigger.

I just pulled up my fiance's shirt and he's got back dimples but they are almost flat because he's so thin and lean (147 at 6"4) but fairly muscular. He has face dimples :) His daughter does as well but I do not know about her back.

I have a dimple in the left side of my chin and that's it :( At least my dimple's a little unique.
