OT--Summer Research Program

I am incredibly excited because I was just accepted into this Summer Research Program I desperately wanted to participate in! For some background, I'm a 4th year college student majoring in biology. It's at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine. They study genetics using mice. Bar Harbor is a GORGEOUS resort town right near Acadia national park. All the students in the program live in this mansion the lab owns that is actually IN the park. On a cliff over looking the ocean!!! :carrot:

I can't express how excited I am! And I have more motivation to reach my goal weight, so I can look smokin' in my lab coat! ;)

Wow!! Congratulations!!! What a HUGE accomplishment! :woohoo:

Yay! I was a biology major, too, but I just couldn't stand lab work and ran away to library science after graduation :D

It sounds like you'll be in the perfect situation for some hiking and other outdoor recreation--I've never been to Maine, but if it's anything like Vermont in the summer you'll have the time of your life.

wow wow wow. i camped in acadia last summer and loved it. so many opportunities for hiking, biking, kayaking, etc. i'm convinced there's something special about living and being in touch with the ocean daily. it has a very calming steady effect on me.
as for the smoking hot lab coat, i'm a microbiologist and use one everyday... and out of all the things i wear regularly, it was the coat "getting bigger" that i noticed first. :)

great job scoring the internship!

I'm not a bio major but I think that is FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!

CONGRATS!!!!

And totally jealous or your mansion living over the ocean IN the park! :)

rosekeet 03-10-2010 01:03 PM

I think I'm more excited about the mansion than the actual research, lol. :)

I'm not much of an outdoor girl, but I think I might because that's the main thing to do over there.

Congrats rosekeet! Former bio major here too, your post brings back so many memories. I did one of those programs in Boston (ten years ago, yikes!) and remember it as the best summer of my life. My research project was on yeast meiosis  so I would hustle out of the lab as soon as the post-docs were looking the other way and take off for some gym time followed by long evening walks. I was so excited to get out of suburbia for the first time that I ended up walking EVERYWHERE and reached the my lowest weight I have ever been that summer.

You're going to have a great experience and great time!
