Bass- be careful! Personally I would think it's due to allergies. Sometimes allergies induce asthma especially it's from exercise. I would say take it easy. It's one thing to be out of breath after pushing yourself, but I would think if you were still wheezing hours later it could be an asthma/allergy issues. Take it easy. I would stick with the elliptical if I were you for now since the pollen in invading.

Completed W1D2 yesterday. Today is rest so W1D3 tomorrow or Tuesday.

BTW - Love the idea of doing the intervals on the elliptical. I hate that thing and haven't gotten the courage to get back on it since I started back at the gym.

Though I don't understand why it's SUCH a big difference running outside than running on my elliptical, as far as breathing goes anyway.
:?: :?:

i jog kind of slow because i get worn out too easily. definitely haven't hit the 4.5mph mark, but i did do 2 miles today at 4mph. i think it's really hard running outside at first because your bones aren't used to the shock of running on pavement. i used to get shin splints when i ran with my friend indoors...probably because i was trying to keep up with her. so i guess ease up a little and go at intervals for a while, then your body will get used to it :D also stretch plenty after you jog.

i was so excited last week when i ran for the first time without feeling terrible. i started out a month ago in the same boat as you and i've only been jogging once a week. already, i feel awesome :D you can do it!!

tomato, Yay for running and not feeling terrible! I love that feeling when you do something that you didn't think would get any easier.

I finished W4D2 today, and it felt awesome. I'm considering signing up for an actual 5K to light a fire under me, and run for running, not for working out. What do you think?

Feral 03-30-2010 01:33 PM

Paja - I say if it's something you're interested in - GO FOR IT! What an accomplishment right?

I completed week 1 today. Of course week 2 sounds daunting but I realized today at the gym that for me -- running is just as much a MENTAL game as it is physical.

I also allowed myself to get distracted... and once I got into that zone I was fine. I hope I can learn to get into that zone more often and for longer amounts of time! :)

Keep up the good work everyone! How's everyone's progress doing!?!?!?

I started week 2 yesterday on my elliptical. Went pretty good. I did week one 3 days in a row then took one day off then started with the 'week 2' phase yesterday and did it again tonight. It really does make the elliptical less boring! The pod casts keep me motivated and the intervals make it interesting.

I'm just happy I am doing something routinely and I don't DREAD doing it!
Some day I'll be able to run out side ... some day.

Well, I still haven't decided if I'm going to register for a 5K, but in the meantime I'm training like I am- running three times a week, instead of whenever I feel like it. Here's the scary thing- I start week 5 tomorrow, and I just looked at the schedule. Day 1, I can do that. Day 2, I can do that. Day 3... I don't know if it's physically possible to go from running 8 minutes to running 20 minutes. I'm slightly terrified, and I don't know if I should just give it a try, or what?

At least that's not until next Wednesday...

Paja 04-07-2010 11:12 PM

Well, I survived the 20 min. run, no music and all! I was really proud (and also really exhausted and a little sick). That was the first time that my legs were tired after running- weird!

Is anyone else still around in this thread?

tomato sunshine 04-07-2010 11:41 PM

i meant to try for 3 miles tonight, but my dinner was still sloshing in my stomach making me feel kind of sick! but i was able to do 1.5 miles at a pretty slow pace with no problem! my legs felt awesome.

i'm gonna try for 3 miles this weekend, when it cools down a little.

i feel silly posting here and not adhering the c25k program... i had good intentions to follow it closely, but getting out and jogging 3x a week in my ghetto neighborhood is kind of hard.

just looking at the c25k schedule made me feel less stupid and taught me that it's ok to start out slow and still make progress. trying to run is one of the best decisions i've made in the past several years!

strangely enough, each time i go running, it feels like i'm working a different set of muscles. i guess i'm not too worried...once i get used to running, i can refine the running technique and work on speed.

congrats on the 20 minutes!! it sounds impossible, but you just keep on chugging!

kabaker 04-08-2010 03:49 PM

I am starting C25K when I get over this stupid cold. I hope to crank out day 1 next tuesday

AmandaPlus4 04-08-2010 04:09 PM

I realized at the end of our run that I had somehow mixed up the walking and running sets, so we were running for 90 seconds, walking for 60 seconds, and it was no problem. I guess we will skip ahead a week :)

kabaker 04-08-2010 04:55 PM

OK I lied.

The sun came out on this gloomy day and I went and did W1D1! I have been sick and I don't feel 100% yet but I am getting closer. I didn't start getting tired until the end but I surprised myself. I might repear week 1 though... not sure.

W1D1 COMPLETE.

Haven't been around much, but I finished W3D3 today and am moving on to week 4 on Wednesday!

kabaker 04-13-2010 01:29 AM

I did W1D2 yesterday with some new running shoes (ouch). Tomorrow I am doing W1D3
