all the single ladies

Just wondering what everyone's plans were for valentine's day. Or unimaginative, consumer-oriented, manipulative and shallow-interpretation of romance day. (Not that I'm bitter or anything. ;) ) I'm single and my usual valentine's day routine is go out with my friend Bridget and eat lots of candy. This year is hard because Bridget moved away and my two closest friends nearby have gone and gotten themselves boyfriends. Some days it seems like I'm the only girl on campus without a boyfriend! It's a lot easier when your friends are single. The dynamic is just different now and it's kind of a lonely feeling.

Obviously, throwing myself a pity party won't help, so i need some ideas to pull me out of the dumps.

my best friend and i (she's single too) have plans to go see the movie Dear John and then go to dinner.
im incredibly bitter about being single of valentines day. but hey, by next valentines day, i plan to be putting on a sexy dress and going on a date with whatever fabulous boyfriend i have by then. lol

I just got back from dancing and drinking with two of my girlfriends. So tomorrow Im gonna sleep in late and then work out. Go shopping because Gap has a sale on boyfriend t-shirts then probably head over to 5 guys burger and get me a juicy fat burger because I deserve it...haha!!! Im gonna have me a great day tomorrow and not worry about being single!!! Im happy every other day so Im not gonna let one day let me down!!! :D

3 of my girlfriends and I are going to see the Valentine's Day movie and to dinner.

Don't feel bad about being single! You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and not have to worry about checking in with anyone! :)

I'll be working all day. :)

Well, I am not single, but my wonderful boyfriend is in Iraq so I am still lonely on Vtines day, lol.

I kind of wanted to go on a "date night" with a girl friend. Get dressed up and go to dinner. But then we decided that the restaurants will probably be ridiculously packed so it's not even worth it. Plus, we have a big exam tomorrow. So I'm just studying and treating it like a normal day.

I did get a vase of pink tulips (my favorite flower) and a teddy bear and love note delivered to me from my guy...so that made it special :)

This is the first Valentines day in a long time that I'm single. I'm actually pretty excited. My best friend and I got each other cards and we're going to dinner. My boyfriends always tended to disappoint, but my best friend always delivers fun :):)

I've never been big on V-day even when I wasn't single for the simple fact that like you said, it's a mass consumer day geared towards spending money. I'm a fan of making sure that the person/people you love know that EVERY day vs. a day designated by Hallmark. Then again, I'm single, so... yeah. LOL

My parents and I always exchange at least a card. Today we're going out for lunch with my brother.

I don't really get wrapped up in it. It's much easier to say that when it falls on a weekend and I'm not surrounded by it.

Needless to say, keep your chin up. It's just another day like any other day. Don't be too down on yourself. I also find that I enjoy being single. No one to answer to, no one to deal with. I have my own sh#t to deal with and it's easier to not have to deal with someone else's.

Think of it that way! :)

I'm having a Jane Austen marathon and cleaning my apartment, which may sound pathetic to some but is actually pretty appealing--I've been pretty busy lately so taking a day for myself is nice!

starmac13 02-14-2010 10:11 AM

I too will be cleaning, hitting up the gym, getting work done.

I actually am really glad that it fell on a weekend. People don't feel as obligated to bring in cookies and cake and chocolate at my job unless we are there on the day. So way easier to resist temptation

Even when I have a boyfriend, I'm not big into Valentine's Day. I just don't see the big deal. However, as a teacher I have to pretend to be excited because Valentine's Day is a pretty big deal to the students. We did make some cute cards on Friday with pop-up flowers.

Today is just like any other Sunday. I'm relaxing, watching movies, and cooking my meals for the coming week.

I'm not single, my wonderful boyfriend and I celebrate our 5 yr anniversary soon.

But, even when I was single, I was always apathetic about Vday. That has turned into straight scrooge-dom! Valentine's Day...bah humbug! First of all, it just makes single people feel bad about their single status (or worse--about love). Second of all, it puts a ton of pressure on the couple to meet some sort of fantasy expectations (as AmberD put it, her boyfriends never got it right).

I get why some people like it. But for me, I prefer little (or big :)) romances on random days, when it's surprising and appreciated, instead of on the day when everyone is doing it, when it's hyped up and expected? It's just kinda like--ehh whaaaatever

haha :D

Wild Vulpix 02-14-2010 11:36 AM

I'm not single, but I'm not doing anything for Vday either  It's just another day...

Aclai4067 02-14-2010 11:48 AM

My friends are ALL in relationships, every (un)single one of them! So I'm hanging out with my parents, go me! They are cooking me steak and helping me file my taxes though :D

duckyyellowfeet 02-14-2010 02:53 PM

I'm not single, but we're not doing anything super exciting. Gotta clean our bedroom, finish up some laundry and get ready for school starting next week. However, we're determined to watch sappy, romantic comedies on tv/dvd all day.
Clearly, we're not big on V-day. Her birthday is the 28th and our anniversary is march 5th, so the "big" stuff is just around the corner.
