What is your Motto?

Hey ladies, I'm in a funk and need some words of wisdom. What are your mottos? mantras? chants? spoken words that keep you going through the rough times? i need some words of motivation/inspiration, NOW.

BellaDiva 01-25-2010 10:40 PM

I currently have two mantras.
#1 "Sitting Pretty"- right now I constantly worry about how I look from the side when I sit down. I am looking forward to the day when that is no longer a concern

#2- "April 10th"- One of my very dear childhood friends is getting married on this day and I want to wear a nice dress and not worry about how I look in pictures.

I think the key to chants/mantras is to find something that matters to you and repeat it out loud often.

For exercise/gyming i have a couple:
Just GO
Just go, even if you get there and walk, its better than nothing
You know its never as bad as you expect, so go
You will feel better
Its only 45mins out of 24 hours, you can do it
For the love of jesus, just get to the freaking gym!

During exercise when i get tired
Just run for one more song *then pick a 7min song xD*
Ok, now just that song one more time
Just another 100m
Round it off on a nice number (like x.5, x.0 etc) then you can stop

Eating
What are your alternatives?
Do you REALLY want this more than seeing a difference on the scale?
What would your personal trainer/coach/gym buddy/whoever say if you told them you had this as a snack?

And I remember something I think someone's son said on here:
Impossible really is nothing. Even the word has "I'm possible" in it

I really like that :D

#1 my sister is getting married in April and I don't want to be the " Fat sister "
#2 I want my husband to look at me and say " damn" again :)

Getting Right 01-25-2010 11:03 PM

" It's the start that stops us". How many times have you dreaded doing something ie. gym, washing clothes and once you started doing it you said to yourself' "Now that wasn't so bad!" We talk ourselves out of so many things just because we think of what it takes to start the task and not how good we will feel after we finshed it. So whenever I'm feeling defeated I remind myself " It's the start that stops me" and I just get up and do it (sometimes....hey I'm human and "Flesh is also weak" LOL! But seriously remembering that motto works.....most of the time ;)

mkendrick 01-25-2010 11:16 PM

Mine is fairly cliche, but "one day at a time" is very meaningful to me. Even further, one hour at a time, one choice at a time, one step at a time. Even if it's one step at a time away from the food court in the mall, haha. Sometimes thinking about the big picture is overwhelming to me. But if I can break it up into a chain of either/or choices, it's a lot easier for me. "Do I want to order sweet tea? Or do I want water?" That is an easier thing for me to comprehend at any given time than "I need to lose 15 more pounds." Then it's on to the next choice.

Also, "nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels." Whenever I'm faced with a specific temptation, I try to visualize how wonderful it feels to have a good weigh in. I feel accomplished, satisfied, proud, attractive, and confident. It's a euphoric feeling. For some reason last week, I was really craving the greasiest Chinese buffet food I could find. But I had to think "is that one experience of yummy food followed by feelings of guilt going to be better than a job well done and a good weigh in?...um, NO!"

junebug41 01-25-2010 11:17 PM

A favorite of mine around here:

"Weightloss is hard. Maintaining is hard. Being fat is hard. Pick your hard."

Iconised Ghost 01-25-2010 11:20 PM

junebug- i had forgotten that one! thats one of my favourites too

junebug41 01-25-2010 11:21 PM

I actually had to google it to find a 3FC post that contained it because I forgot how it went. Google really is idiot proof.

KurLEQ 01-25-2010 11:24 PM

Mine is: Never more than today.

Personal vow to never weigh more than I do today.

MyPitBullSmiles 01-25-2010 11:24 PM

"It could be a lot worse, it could be a lot better. Today is the choice is mine."

calisa86 01-25-2010 11:37 PM

you guys are amazing and i love you all!

just did 40 on the treadmill and feeling much better. chose to work out rather than have a cupcake!

thanks ladies!

garstar 01-25-2010 11:58 PM

Mine are always changing. Right now I have

"Healthy food : Healthy body : Happy life" on a note card above my computer.

artsnsmarts 01-26-2010 12:58 AM

I use "Peace. Love. Equality" for just about everything.

For example, I know that to have inner PEACE I have to learn to LOVE myself, and for that I need to love my body, and for that I know I need to be thinner. Equality doesn't really factor into that, haha, it's just something I believe in!

I also have aspirations for a career in theatre, and I just visualize myself in a role I REALLY want, or in a theatre I LOVE. That usually keeps me on track :)

One that keeps me going (and I have posted this numerous times so sorry if everyone is getting sick of it) is :

Think of how you will look and feel a year from now if you keep going (with your weightloss journey).... now think of how you will look and feel a year from now if you quit today, tomorrow, in a week, etc. The choice is yours.

Every day counts and the choices you make today, add up to that feeling you will embrace a year from now.

BellaLucia 01-26-2010 08:47 AM

Veni, Vidi, Vici: I came, I saw, I conquered.

forestroad 01-26-2010 09:32 AM

Fake it till you make it!

OneStepAtATime 01-26-2010 09:38 AM

I liked my motto so much I made it my username :D

shortandfluffy 01-26-2010 09:51 AM

Great thread Calisa... I love all of these.

I think I am going to make a sign that says what Junebug posted.

I am also in my sister's wedding May 22nd.. I don't want to be the fat bridesmaid, so I always say "think of the dress.. think of the dress"

smisen 01-26-2010 09:58 AM

"Just Keep Swimming" - From Finding Nemo, my official life (not just weight loss) motto :)

That's my motto as well. I have been struggling with my weight for years, and every year I've tried numerous times to lose weight. And every year I look back, and I was actually gaining instead of losing. So this time, I don't have a time limit and I'm not losing as fast as I could be, but I am losing and keeping it off, which is a big thing for me. I don't want to look back this time next year and be like "there's another time I tried to lose weight and I failed..."

While I wouldn't say I have a motto, I do have a few quotes I like:

"What is not started today is never finished tomorrow."
"If you don't push forward, you'll never improve."
"One more day of staying where you are is one more day it will take to get where you want to be."

Gracie789 01-26-2010 01:23 PM

I have a few quotes that I keep around my house to keep me motivated. My favorites:

Yeah-it's hard…that first lap you think 'I rock, I'm a god, I can do it'…and by that third? You're thinking 'I suck, I'm a dork, I'm gonna die.' Been there…you just gotta keep coming out.

The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It's your mind you have to convince.

HaleyisLove 01-26-2010 01:38 PM

I love these...

Forest thats kind of my life motto and I tell it to people all the time... they are like what????

but really you ladies are amazing

cherrykissez011 01-26-2010 01:39 PM

"One pound at a time"

"TOMORROW YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE DECISIONS YOU MADE TODAY!!"

"SUCCESS comes from making SACRIFICES"

IHeartMe 01-26-2010 03:29 PM

Wow this is a great thread!

Mine is really simple="Beast Mode"
I promised myself 2010 is going to be the year of the sexy beast lol. I will lose the 2nd half of the weight and I will stick with it no matter what. When I feel lazy and don't want to get my butt on the treadmill, I tell myself Beast Mode! This means get your butt up and quit being so lazy.

seidlet 01-26-2010 03:45 PM

"If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment."

"In the morning, when you are sluggish about getting up, let this thought be present: 'I am rising to a man's work.'"

"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford
"Even if you are on the right road you get run over if you just sit there." - Will Rogers

"No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." - Eleanor Roosevelt

MiZTaCCen 01-26-2010 09:53 PM

I have written on my door before I go anywhere.

"Feeling lazy? That's why you're a fatass! Start walking!"

It motivates me enough to walk to work in the mornings haha. Now I need to work on something else to get me going to a gym on my day's off, but so far that's helped me keep on track. Yes its a little harsh but thats how I roll. lol.
