Default Honestly, how long can a plateau last before you have to assume something is wrong?

I haven't lost a single lb in 4 weeks. I've GAINED a lb. I've hovered between 186 and 189 since June 15th. I am an obsessive calorie counter. I've been doing this for a long time... I thought I understood how it worked?

I do the 30 day shred 4 days a week and walk/run on the alternate days. I had been eating 1400 calories a day but when nothing was happening I started cycling between 1800 and 1200... and NOTHING. Not a lb. I feel like I'm going crazy. There is no way I can maintain 185 lbs with this level of activity and calorie intake... is there? Am I doomed to be fat forever?

This is so discouraging! At what point do I need to go see a doctor and assume there is something "wrong"?

I usually try to chnge up my routine. Even if I'm doing the same amount of exercise and eating the same amount of points, I try to do different types of exercise and vary my foods a bit more. Sometimes it helps

Yup, I've been doing that too . Varying my fat/carb/protein percentages... the 30 day shred is a new addition in the last couple weeks... I dunno what else there is to do! My mom thinks I need to take a break from the exercising for a week but that seems so counterproductive... I don't know if I could make myself do it!

It will come off. You KNOW it will. You have to be patient. I know that's the hardest thing in the world to do, but if you're creating a calorie deficit that stays within healthy bounds, the weight will come off when your body stops panicking.

If you feel the need to change up your routine a little, do it. I wouldn't take a week off of exercising, but maybe you need to do less strenuous workouts, or focus on strength training more than you do cardio. Sometimes pulling back does help. But in the end I think it comes down to patience.

I had a six week plateau one time. It drove me nuts. This time around I'm going to be the most patient little weight loser ever!

Have you by any chance been taking any kind of new medication? I notice sometimes when I take a muscle relaxer, (I have chronic pain in my back from a disorder) that the next day I'll go up a pound and weight gain is actually listed as a side effect.

I'm trying to be patient... It's so hard, isn't it??? I am just so sick of being overweight. I'm just tired of being judged... I'm so close yet so far away...

No new medications... I take a B complex and Omega 3 every day but I've always taken those.

I'm still nursing my 18 month old once a night... could this have anything to do with it? I figured I wasn't really producing much milk at all so it shouldn't play too much into the equation. I'm trying to wean her right now because she just got her K9 teeth in and they HURT.

I feel your pain. I have had a month long plateau before and the only thing that helped was just chugging right along. I think finally, it paid off and I lost like 3-4 lbs in one week. Our bodies are strange sometimes. Sorry I have no real advice for you. Keep up the great work, you have come so far already.

It's this. This can totally hold you up a few weeks.

But I wouldn't recommend backing off on the exercise. The plateau is mostly water weight, and when that goes, it goes nicely! Backing off on the exercise just deprives you of all the great things it's doing for you, and for what? To get *water* weight off a little faster? That's cutting off your nose to spite your face

Can the 30ds really halt me that badly? ACK.... It's a great workout and I feel stronger but seeing the same dang numbers on the scale week after week is a motivation killer!!!

This morning I stepped on the scale and it said 182 and I was like OMG YES!!!! then it said *error* UGHHHHHHHHHH when I stepped on again it said 187. *sigh*

I think that you should lower you calorie intake..instead of 1400 i would do 1000. Drink lots of water!!!...Im currently doing 900 calories a day and I do billy blanks cardio circuit 1 4 times a week and been loosing 3 lbs weekly!!! try to take out some carbs from your diet as well...good luck

According to the Mayo Clinic, a woman needs to consume at least 1200 calories in order to get the amount of nutrients a body needs. These super-low calorie plans only serve your nutritional purposes when you're drinking meal substitutes that have added nutrients in them. You'll lose weight, but not as healthily.

Yikes... yeah I won't go below 1200... especially since I'm still nursing. I'd pass out.

I think it could actually be the 30 Day Shred. I did it for 10 days in a row level 1 and I gained 3 pounds without changing anything else. This shocked me because I have so much still to lose. It is a great workout though and I will introduce myself to it later on when I have lost more. I think you could be bulking up in muscle. Hang in there!!

I've been having the same problem. And it's been really getting on my nerves! And discouraging me, to the point where I've been having too many "cheat days." Fortunately, my cheat days still tend to stay around maintenance level calories. But I bounce up 3 or 4 pounds, then back down. Up then down. I've done this 3 or four times over the last 3 weeks to a month. Crazy-making!!

But, I've been doing the 30DS as well - not religiously, but 4 or 5 days a week at least. The plus side is, while the scales aren't going down, my husband swears I'm looking better! Can't tell if the clothes are any looser, 'cause they're all two sizes too big anyway . . .

Stick with it. It will pay off. At least I keep telling myself that.

Yeah, definitely 1000 calories is too low. Have you tried upping your calories a bit or even calorie cycling? Awhile back I was stuck gaining and losing the same 5 pounds and I upped my calories plus started a bit of calorie cycling and it worked for me.

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be. Hang in there
