Default going against the laws of weightloss?

okay, here the backstory...

saturday was my weekly weigh in day, 172.5. i was stoked, nice gradual pace downward, doing everythig right diet and exercise wise.

so saturday night, me and the db went out for a date night. he picked pf changs which i thought was a nice idea, since that was where our first date was over a year ago. i totally threw caution to the wind and ordered whatever i wanted, we were gonna be good and start with the lettuce wraps but the waiter roped us in to an awesome fried galore appetizer. i wont go in to the details of all we ate, but today calculated every I ate from their nutritional information....2627 calories!!!

now, that was the only meal i ate that day, wasnt hungry before eating and i def as not hungry for the rest of the night.

so i stepped on the scale this morning to assess my damage and give me an idea of what kind of extra restrictions i need to do this week. the scale read 171.5?!?!?! i stepped off and back on and got the same reading.

what is going on??? my meal was mostly fried, so i know the fat content was through the roof, and i can only imagine so was the sodium, at the very least i should be holding onto some water.

anyone have any ideas what kind of scale voodoo could be going on?

im still going to up the clean foods and exercise this week to flush the ickies that i ate over the weekend, but any insight you wise ladies may have would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, ally

Well, I'm not so sure there are necessarily 'rules' for weight loss. Obviously, if there are, "Don't eat fried foods" would probably be in the top five, and I also would have expected a gain, but it seems like your body is working for you. If you've been working out and eating right, your body has most likely become much more like a furnace, able to burn up the extra influx of carbs and fat. There is a theory of junk spiking, that you should eat a bunch of junky food like that every once in awhile while dieting to kind of shock your metabolism into kicking up the heat. If you return immediately to your eating plan and exercise, the damage is minimal or nonexistant, as it seems to be in your case here.
I say don't sweat it, leave it behind you, and keep on trucking. you're doing a great job.

The mysteries of weight loss.. Alas, sometimes one day going above calories can do wonders. It gives your body a little *boost*.

I read somewhere on here "what you do this week, you pay for next week" and I've really found that to be true for myself. I've had weeks where I ate POP and exercised and nothing happened... other times I ate too much, drank too much and lost. ... but it does seem by next week, the scale is more truthful. I might lose from overeating but in my experience, that loss is not permanent.

THOUGH... I also believing in "shocking" your body. If you've been calorie consistent, sometimes upping your calories for a day "shocks" your metabolism. If you eat 1300 calories everyday and then you throw in a 2000 calorie day, I think your metabolism may be like "whoa, what's going on" and rev up a bit. If you eat the same number of calories everyday, your metabolism becomes more efficient at burning them and it takes less energy to burn 1300 everyday than it would to burn different amounts each day that average out to 1300. I heard that they allow "cheat days" on the Biggest Loser and I think that is the reason.
