Mrs. Grumpy Pants! (Rant)
All this dieting is making me so so grumpy. I walk around snapping at my poor husband, and he doesn't even do anything! I know a lot of it is my crappy attitude. Does anyone else have this problem? And how do you "ungrumpify" yourself?

what kind of diet are you on? if its too restrictive maybe you should loosen it up slightly every now and again. When im in a slump i just try and think about the process i have made and the progress i want and sometimes that helps

i remember when i was not eating ANY carbs i was really really irritable and angry.. it was terrible!

I'm doing a low calorie diet and trying to keep it in the 1200-1400 range. I think this may be too low for my weight, though, and from what I've ready I may end up with other problems. Maybe I should ease down to that range more slowly?
I didn't know whether or not the food actually had anything to do with it or if I've just been in such a bad mood from not eating the way I normally do... Either way, this is pretty horrible. I'm not normally a grumpy person!! |
That may be the problem - you're not eating enough.

I think you arnt eating enough I would just try out eating 1500or 1600 a day for a week or two and see if you feel any better.

I am another for you should eat more.
Try 1500-1600 calories and see if you feel better. If you're still loosing a lb or two each week then you could even try a higher calorie count. I would continue to up your calories to just as high as you can continue to loose. |
I also agree- plus being hungry makes me grumpy too :D

Sometimes I find that I get overwhelmed (and consequently, grumpy) from trying to be too perfect in my dieting and exercising. When that happens, I try to go out and have a special treat and really savor it. I try to remember that this is about a lifestyle change - and life needs to include a few treats every so often :)

yeah, too much restriction for your weight. You'll feel much better at a slightly higher calorie range. are you getting much exercise? If you're getting any at all I'd say you could eat 1500-1700 and still lose, at a slightly slower and much more sustainable rate. And hubby will even thank you, I'm sure :)
Not to mention, exercise releases endorphins, which make you happy. I know I'm always in a much better mood after a good hard workout, and I've worked up a nice appetite too. Good luck babe. |
Yeah, actually I've been doing cardio for 30-40 minutes a day 5-6 days a week and swimming laps 2-3 days a week. I think I was just going a little too hardcore and yep, smisen, overwhelmed at trying too hard to be too good. I'm just so so afraid I'm going to give up like always!
Really, it's great that there's so much support here! I think this may just mean the difference between being a success and failing again. Thank you (really) for all your help! |
goinskinny, I know what you mean - I'm terrified that I'm going to give up like always. But I figure I'm more likely to quit if I go too crazy and eat nothing but salads than if I indulge smartly, like with a piece of really good square of dark chocolate instead of a giant candy bar.

Yeah, with that much working out and only doing 1200-1400 calories a day, you're only netting probably 900-1100 calories a day, which is too few. I would suggest instead of adding more calories to your meals adding in snack or two during the day, which will both keep you from getting hungry-grumpy, and keep your metabolism going.
