  • So to those of you who have actually done the C25k- did you feel that it aided your weightloss during those 9 weeks? Did you pair it with other forms of exercise?

I'm hoping to not only become a runner but also lose weight, haha! Just curious what your results have been with it.
  • I am still on my first week but I am doing it to get in shape, weight loss from this will be a bonus. I have an 11 day biology field class this fall where we are pretty much hiking mountains so I have until August to get myself in shape for it.

I would also like to know if weight loss is normal for this program.
  • I agree that it's more about getting in shape.

I'm doing weight watchers at the same time, so I have no doubt that I'd be losing weight anyway.

An added bonus is that even on weeks when I don't lose weight (ie last week when I was off in Las Vegas and not really OP), I still felt successful because I got in my W4 workouts and progressed towards my goal of running a 5K. It gives me something to focus on other than the scale.
  • that's what i was thinking- getting into shape is what this will be great for. i think i'm going to have to do the 30DS in addition though, to continue losing inches and pounds.
  • C25K is great cardio interval training, and depending on intensity and your weight you will burn a decent amount of calories in those 30min. i am waiting for my gowear fit. so hopefully tomorrow i'll know exactly how much my body burns during my training. more calories burned, more possible weight loss.

and the best is - it makes you feel great!

on top of it i walk from/to work at least twice a week (2 miles in roughly 30min), and i do the 30 day shred every other day.
  • Running burns around 100 calories a mile. Alone the C25K is not going to make you significantly lighter.

    Really?

I know this isn't "outside running" but if I'm on the elliptical for 60 minutes, I cover 5 miles of distance and burn like 850 calories...
  • I definitely lost weight when I started C25K but that was also when I started dieting. I was also in horrible shape at that point so even the first week's workout was challenging. With my journey though, I try to focus on what I can do, not how much I have lost or else those weeks when you lose nothing can be pretty depressing. I have also found it helpful since my first 5K to have another race soon to keep me motivated.

it so depends on your weight and your intensity. i am burning more. about 200 calories/mile.
  • I am doing C25K and weight watchers and I have consistently lost weight on average of 2 lbs a week the last 5 weeks. I'm on Week 3 (tomorrow is Day 3).

Normally when I lose 10 lbs I don't drastically change sizes. This time around though my jeans are already completely falling off of my arse! I think C25K definitely helps with weight loss and getting in shape (I also have been doing bellydancing, walking at lunch and bicycling in addition to C25K).

Ummm, I wouldn't believe what the machine says you've burned calorie-wise. They are notoriously wrong.
  • Darnit, and I thought I was doing so well.
  • stellarosa you're still doing well!!! 60 minutes on an elliptical KILLS me!
