THe heavier you start the more places the weight comes from at one time instead if it all coming from like your waist and thighs only. I hope this makes sense. THe smaller you are the less places the weight has tocoem from.

Like somebody said above, when you're really really heavy like I was and still am, the fat has a lot of different places to come off of, like the face and arms and back, which don't really affect jeans sizes. Once the body get a good bit of that out of the way, it can start shedding belly and bottom and leg fat, which is when you really start to see a difference in the way your clothes fit.
Mmmmhmm. These ladies pretty much summed it up, but just to throw in my own $0.02, I started at 263 lbs and was wearing mostly a size 18 in jeans, and I think it took 35-40 lbs before I dropped to a 16... And similarly, it wasn't until I had lost about 40 lbs that anyone even noticed that I had lost anything! But now, I definitely seem to be dropping sizes *much* more quickly--I just found out that I was a size 8 the last time I went clothing shopping about a month ago, and the pants I bought then are already starting to feel loose on me just ~10 lbs later... It seems like as you get smaller, a loss of even just a few pounds can be much more noticeable/have a much bigger impact on your body than it did before! So yes, I totally understand how frustrating it is to have to wait so long to drop sizes at first, but just think about how much you'll be loving it later when you're dropping sizes left and right! Hehe! ;)
