I do both.
I wish I used my gym membership more. I don't really take advantage of it. I feel really insecure at the gym, so that is a major downer. I like exercising at home, or taking long walks (usually 2-4 miles per walk).

I have a gym membership, mostly because it was cheap (grad students/postdocs/faculty pay $150 for a whole year of access to any campus gyms). But I'm finding that I hardly ever use it -- I'm already away from home for 10-12 hours a day, so the last thing I want to do is stay on campus, or go in on the weekends!
I might not renew next year, especially since I'll finally be able to ride my bike conveniently (we live in a 3rd floor apartment until August.. I'm not dragging that thing downstairs) so I won't just be relying on running for cardio. Although I guess I'll need something to do during the winter. I have a decent amount of equipment for strength training at home -- dumbbells ranging from 5-25lb, a stability ball, and a pull-up bar that hangs on a door frame.
If I could still do some of my favorite exercise videos, I wouldn't even consider the gym! Unfortunately I'll still be living above other people next year. Oh well.

I pay big bucks for the gym, but it is only what you make it. I do a lot of stuff at home too and for a few months I neglected both home workouts AND gym workouts, and still had to pay the gym bill because of the contract. But when I do go to the gym and/or add it to my home routine, I get results. And I absolutely love my gym.

I joined curves for a special deal month last summer but got my first official gym pass this past February (the facility is part of the organization where I work)
I walk a lot. and do yoga every day. Because of my health I cant do high intensity exercise anyways. I depend on my food plan/quality sleep to manage my weight.

I can't afford a gym, but I do have a bicycle and I try to ride every day, I do about 10 miles in this lovely park about 2 miles from my home. It's not really uphill, but I still get a good workout. I don't think I'd join a gym even if I had the money.

I don't have a gym membership. I've done it all on my own at home. Last summer I had lost 40 pounds on my own. I gained 20 of that back and am working on getting it off again and hae been begging my hubby to go to the gym. The only thing is, we are both down to 32 hours a week so that makes it hard financially. And the fact that I DID lose 40 pounds on my own makes him think it's crazy I would want to spend money on it. He knows I'm capable and thinks I'll do just fine again by myself. Sometimes I just want a little change. All I've asked for is like 3 months to get me going. Maybe I'll get him talked into it soon.

I have a gym membership. I go Monday-Friday for about 1 1/2 hours. I go early in the morning, and no one is really in there. I do the elliptical for an hour (on the "open" floor) and strength train for about 30 minutes (in the women only part of the gym. Still kind of self-conscious about lifting weights). My husband got us both memberships and I started feeling guilty about not going so I made it my business to start going again.
I don't have the motivation to exercise at home. If I'm at home, my bed is always calling me and I HAVE to get in it! LOL! Well, it's either the bed OR the fridge.... LOL!

I joined Curves and it is perfect for me because I DO NOT LIKE TO EXERCISE..This is 30 minutes and you are only on a machinr for 30 seconds. That is long enough for me but you do make two time around the circuit but in the first week I have lost 5 lbs. I joined WW at the same time. I have been doing nothing for the last 5 years and have gained 60 lbs..It was definitely time for a change... Good Luck!

I have a gym membership and I workout outside. For me the gym is a MUST for all the equipment I use weight training. Second I enjoy the classes they offer. Now that it's getting a little warmer I love to get out of the gym to run and bike. I just can't workout at inside at home way to many distractions.

I think there's a lot more motivation when you go to the gym. Once you're there, it kind of feels like you have to work out. But at home, you can always put it off. Plus, there are a lot more options at the gym so you don't get bored as easily. I personally can never get motivated when I'm at home.

I LOVED my old gym - it was women only and they had great cardio and strength combo classes that really kept me accountable. Since moving, I haven't found a gym that I feel this way about and my workouts have really be suffering. So I think it depends on the gym - I suggest trying one out for a few days (most places will give you at least a free day, many will give a week) before making the commitment.

I have been going to the gym 3-4 times a week since December and am down 25 lbs as of today!!! I also hired a trainer, because I really want to get the weight off this year. It's working for me and I strive for lifestyle changes not just weight loss.
