I think the claim is that it's easier to lose weight when you're younger. Meaning, the older you get, the harder it's going to get.
That's not always true though, some people have little trouble losing weight when they are in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s. Look on the boards, for instance.

Maybe the 'experts' are assuming when you're in your 20's you are less likely to have large families or things to keep you from working out, or maybe that in your 20's you're less likely to have medical issues to keep you from exercising, like joint pain or something.

Its really because your metabolism. They assume that when you are younger you have higher metabolism then someone in there 30's or 40's or higher.

And they assume that you have more energy to get up and go do things.

for me, it's willpower!

Like for example "if i am 30 and only now i start to lose weight, then I have to carry those weights and maybe some extra through over those 10 years since 20 something years old"? **** No! I absolutely won't allow it~
So yes, it's easier to do in 20-something lol.
Besides, all the reasons above me also are same as what I thought as well

It is possibly easier in a way- higher metabolism, less likely to have dependents, less likely to have injuries or conditions that make physical exercise difficult...on the other hand thats not always the case for 20 somethings, plus many of us are living at home or with other people not dieting, have limited access to money to spend on home gym equipment, or a gym subscription....losing weight can be hard at any age

Yeah I think they are basing it off of metabolism, because younger adults have higher metabolisms. Another contributing factor is the fact that a person in their 20s has an easier time building lean muscle mass which burns more calories. As people age (especially in seniors) it grows progressively harder for the body to build muscle.

I would argue that people in their early 20s especially are also less likely to have serious commitments, which makes it easier to have a healthy lifestyle...for me, all I really need to look after is myself, so I should be able to make more time for eating right and exercise versus if I had other people to look after. I work at a gym and it is such a huge motivator to know that some of the most diligent ladies, the true regulars at the gym, have families and still make time to go. Same with the people on here with lots of obligations. A pretty darn inspiring bunch of women.

Hee, how do you know? Have you tried to lose weight in your 20s and 30s and 40s and 50s so you can compare the experience?
