Zen, what's the different between an upright bass and a double bass? Or are they the same thing..?

Zen Pharmacy 01-12-2009 08:26 PM

Same, upright is just slang.

I played the piano for about 8 years but quit because of health issues (I couldn't play, go to college, etc). I would love to play now but I don't have my piano. My mom said I can have it but we're going to refinish the floors in the sunroom where I would put it so I hate to make somebody move it now and then have to move it around later.

Aaaah slang. Gotcha. =]

The viola! I would like to learn the piano though, that seems fun.

<~~~~ permanent band geek!

i played french horn from the sixth grade through college - did all state, solo and ensemble etc... i played trumpet in college too. i taught myself a little bit on piano when i was a kid and always wanted to play flute but didn't have the chops for it. i'd love to be able to play now but i don't have a horn or a mute. i do have my coronet and if i catch a weekend when the neighbors are outta town then i'll play with it some. my old high school director is starting a community band in my old hometown 45 miles away that i'd definitely join for performances but i cldn't make three weekly rehearsals on that kinda gas money. i miss playing so much....

Thanks,

Connie

 I realized that my passion for music could be fulfilled and I wouldn't have to spend my 20's in a practice room, nor would I drop 50k on an education that would make me no money. Also, I had my fill of playing weddings (before my wedding in August, the musicians suggested Pachelbel's Canon and I almost blew chunks on the spot).

I transferred schools and majored in music business instead. It worked out much better. :)

For you apartment dwellers who need practice space, check out churches in your neighborhood. I bartered service performances with the cathedral across the street from my apartment for practice space.

I used to play the piano... But I haven't touched one in years. I'll I think I probably could remember is where middle C is lol

I have played the violin for the past 14 years and piano for the past 16 years.

I played the clarinet, sax, and piano for years, but not so much now. Guitar's been my new found love, as of late. :) Very relaxing to play.

CookieQueen 01-13-2009 12:37 AM

I played the viola and the ocarina, of all things :)

My Dad is a real musician though, his big instrument is the sax and his dirty secret instrument is the BAGPIPES!!

I played clarinet up through junior high school. My dad, sister, and brother all played when they were younger as well!
I've played piano on and off since I was 7 - I'd love to get back into it, but I don't have the time or motivation.
I sing a bit... did all the school and church musicals back in high school.

My husband taught me to play a little guitar, but my fingers are so short and skinny and weak that I got frustrated, heh.
He also tried to teach me the drums, but having to coordinate more than two appendages at once makes my brain hurt.

I've played the piano on and off for 16+ yrs... when I get my dream home it will have a room dedicated to a dream baby grand.

Otherwise I played clarinet and bass clarinet all through school.

Nowadays I am proud to say that I can play a mean guitar hero. :D lol
