Body water percent?
My scale has body fat percent, weight, and water percent...

What is this water percent, it said I'm low at 51% i'm worried.

ginger131986 11-25-2008 10:52 PM

not sure what that is, i tried to google it, no luck.....sorry

jahjah1223 11-25-2008 11:01 PM

mine is 56%

Wikipedia says that women's avg water percentage is 55%. So you're not too far off.

My water percentage is usually pretty steady at 49-50% - if I have gone for a big run it may drop as low as 47%...

My BF% has been dropping ever so slowly but my water % has been staying in that range so I assume it is normal for me and I do drink a lot...between 1.5 and 2.5ltrs daily.

garstar 11-26-2008 08:36 PM

My bf percent is 26, is this normal? high?

jahjah1223 11-26-2008 08:45 PM

today mine was 36% lol ...

what kind of scales do you all have that tell that? - I'm still in the market and I should probably keep an eye on my water percentage.

It's a "Taylor" i usually buy that brand, they seem pretty reliable! My first one lasted me 5 years

around 30 bucks at walmart

Garstar -

Its different for men and women and different sites will say slightly different things but roughly for women:

Essential fat = 12–15%

Athletes = 16–20%

Fitness = 21–24%

Acceptable = 25–31%

Obese = 32%+

My BF% is about 20 - 21% at the moment so its on the low end of "fitness". I am aiming to lower it to around 18% or so. I like working towards this as opposed to obsessing with scale weight!

Thats why when you do strength training the scale may stay the same for pure weight but your clothes get looser. Your BF% is dropping as your lean body mass increases :)

thank you! - I convinced DH the Wii Fit was a good scale if nothing else.......of course I still want an actual scale....$30 isn't bad!
