Pressure to lose
I'm slightly annoyed. For about the 100th time in the last 2 months, my best friend tried to get me to take diet pills. I know that I am overweight, but am I not doing something about it?? I lost 3 effing pounds last week...so what if I only lost 4 oz this week! Doesn't it all even itself out?
Here's why she is constantly bugging me. She has a friend who is very overweight who has had weight issues for years. She finally went to her dr & he prescribed diet pills & a low calorie diet. It is helping her a lot, but I feel like the way I am doing it is better because I am learning how to control what I eat, I am developing a healthy relationship with food, and I am relearning to listen to my body. She says today that her friend got on the scale today & had lost 8 lbs in one week. Sounds crazy to me! I don't know. I'm just annoyed. I am really proud of myself - I have lost 19 pounds, and I have lost 2 pant sizes in 4 months. I'd say that's pretty da mn good! I feel like it isn't good enough though because this girl is dropping weight like crazy. The only difference is that she is taking a pill. Sorry for the rant. I'm just a little hurt & SUPER ANNOYED. Can I get a amen? |
Chance, you are making wonderful progress the right way. It doesn't seem to me you need diet pills. If they made that much of a difference would there be so many fat people in the world?
|
You deserve to be proud of yourself! The easy way out is never Easy in the end when you gain all that weight back and then some. Keep up the good work and put your friend in her place!
|
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diet pills are definitely NOT the answer.
|
AMEN.
I agree with the way you feel.. IMO, I think the way you are loosing weight is not only safer but better for you as well. I think when it comes to 'dieting' you shouldn't do/take anything that you cant for the rest of your life.. I have never been in favor of diet pills, and in a way.. I think it that in the end if you can say that you reached your goal weight just by watching what you eat and exercising, then there is a much bigger reward than saying I took diet pills. You just keep up what your doing. :) Stick with your head, and do what you feel is best for health and long term wight loss. I vote no to diet pills... ;) |
it doesn't really matter how much her friend loses if she hasn't learned how to keep it off
|
yup, amen to that. Have you ever seen Peter Kay? He's a british stand up comedian and he did one joke about diet pills and fad diets, and how people lose 15 stone in a day :D Tell her where she can stick her pills, and keep going!

Chance (((((hugs))))) and a HUGE
A M E N!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're SO right that you're doing it the right way!! The girl on diet pills is basically treating the symptoms but not the disease (not that it's a disease, but you know what I mean, right?). YOU are treating the ROOT issue!! You're learning how much to eat, making good choices and learning to have a healthy relationship with food. Those are ALL contributing factors to LASTING weight loss!! What is this girl going to do when her instant gratification ends and she's losing less than a pound a week? Or when her perscription runs out and her Dr tell her she's on her own from now on? Honestly, I could write a novel here but here's a summary: In a year, ask your rude, pushy "friend" how the girl with the diet pills is doing. YOU will be at your goal weight, SHE will probably be heavier than she started out or possibly in the hospital due to the damage she's done to her body. |
AMEN!!
Like everyone else said, and everyone always says, you didnt get that way overnight, or not going to lose it overnight. Im sorry but taking a pill and doing really nothing more and losing 8 pounds is really unhealthy in my opinion, Im sure later on when this girl script runs out, your friend will be asking you about portions and exercising tips for her friend that gained all her weight back. You should be proud of your acomplishments and not taking the easy way out, it can be done the right way. Thats why they have shows like the Biggest looser to promote healthy diet and exercise. Good for you for turning her down and sticking to you guns. Also when she does lose all her wait and the rest of her body hasnt caught up with her what is she going to look like then? AMEN again! |
Hmph.
Simple answer: YOU will keep the weight off because you've spent this time developing good habits. YOU will likely not get the saggy skin, and you'll be fit as well as thin to boot. AND last but certainly not least, you're not walking around in perfumed pantyliners 24/7 because you're taking some pill that causes rectal seepage.
Look up the side effects of some of those pills. Eugh... I would rather have a flesh-eating virus. Seriously. |
Thanks girls! I am so annoyed..still! Someone said it perfectly that I am learning how to listen to my body (or something to that affect) & she isn't treating the problem - she is treating the symptoms. Well, that's how I feel. She always talk about how this girl has no appetite & is only eating 1250 calories a day & i'm like "I worked for a smaller appetite! I didn't pop a pill & let it magically work for me!" Ugh!

Diet pills are not worth it IMO....you are doing GREAT!!! :bravo: Just stick to your guns, as my mother would say " You don't owe her an explanation as to why you dont want to, just be flat out and say it, THIS is how I am doing it, THIS is working for me, thank you for your imput though...." End of story, you are doing great, you dont need a pill ,we are strong women! Good Luck!:broc: |
When people work hard to get to a goal, they'll appreciate it more. Tell your friend that you're getting healthy the best way, eating healthy foods and exercising.
|
Think about who is better off in the long run. You are :) Just like everyone has said, YOU WIN!
|
AMEN Chance!! I once heard Oprah say on her show, that weight loss isn't easy and there is no miracle to drop pounds quickly otherwise she wouldn't be over weight because lord knows with all her money she would've bought it by now! And I don't think she could've put it better.
You are doing things the right way and the hard way. But you are changing your lifestyle and you are going to be so much better equipped to maintain your loss! |
