AH! The dreaded TOM, help!

  • So I've been sucessfully dieting for about a month. I've lost 16lbs and I feel great! BUT, AF came to town today and I can already feel my hunger going outta control. So I'm asking for some advice from you experienced dieters How do you curb your cravings and resist the urge to splurge?? Also, what did you do to prevent the dreaded water retention? I feel like this is gonna be a bad week between TOM and Thanksgiving. Weigh in on Monday might not be so good for me
  • Ack. TOM can be a killer.

Nothing you can really do about water retention except drink lots of water and watch your salt intake.

For the cravings, I think it depends on what you're craving. I will often have some good quality dark chocolate if I'm craving ... or will indulge in a *small* bag of Sunchips for the saltiness, and then count them into my calories.

If you're just feeling the urge to eat - go for something like celery or an apple. Something crunchy that will fill you up for very few calories.

And keep EXERCISING. Exercise will help with cramps and help curb hunger and cravings.

    .
  • drink lots of water, midol will help with water retension, or atleast they say it does (i like it) dont ban yourself from foods just eat very small portions and chew gum to help curb cravings
  • The 100-calorie packs usually help me out a lot. I always crave chocolate the week before so I got the 100-calorie Hostess packets & they are awesome. They are just enough to scratch my itch. Eat it with a big glass of water & you'll feel like you got full on the chocolate! =)
  • Oh! And Ginger is right! I drank over 100oz of water last week while I was on my TOM & I lost 3 pounds! It helps you feel lighter too...not so heavy & bloated.
  • i drink lots of water, keeps you full AND hydrated. I allow myself to snack/graze a bit more because i find that during TOM if i get to the point where im actually quite hungry its just too easy to eat and eat and eat. Other than that i just try to stick to my normal routine
