Definitely don't go on the shot (Depo Provera).. When I used it I gained 20 lbs over a year and half.. I'm on the pill now and haven't gained any weight from that.

i have an IUD - because it's none hormonal it can't cause wight gain. i have just had implanon taken out. now i swear it caused me NOT TO LOSE weight. i'd already put it on on the pill and my first implanon and then couldn't lose it and now i am doing at a steady rate since it went out.
i'm never using hormonal contraception again that's a fact |
I've had the implant (Implanon) for longer than I've been losing weight and have lost 105lb in the last 18 months. With the implant I have noticed I don't get the wildly fluctuating weight gains at TOM which always made me depressed before, also don't have the TOM carb cravings. So all in all I believe the implant has helped with my weightloss.

I used to have the pill but I am too terribly forgetful :) so I switched to a hormonal IUD. It's blissfull. The insertion was not exactly nice - I very nearly fainted and had to ask a friend to walk me home because the nurse didn't want to let me go. I was sick for an afternoon but after that it was over. I hardly have periods and no cramps. The hormones of a hormonal IUD are supposed only to work locally - as opposed to BC pills, which bring them into your bloodstream. But I never had problems with BC pills either. I know some people that weren't too happy with IUD's though. One kept having horrible cramps, and another reacted bad to the hormones. The only way to find out is to try it.

thank you all so much for your input! I will take it all into consideration when I talk to my doctor!

someone on here said they were ill after their IUD - they wouldn't be the first. i however didn't ahve an issue but it is rather painful. think periods but with someone pushing you from the insides out (which they are). it can be quite hard to fit too i believe

I was on the Nuva-Ring for a couple of years, and I loved it for the most part (no noticeable side effects, and I was fat when I started it. I don't think the wait I gained since then can be attributed to the ring, more likely the medium pizzas I used to eat for lunch, daily)
I have changed to Alesse this week, because my health insurance will only cover the ring at $50/month, which at this point is too pricy for me, as the BC is just regulating my hormones. We'll see how things go, but so far, everything's been the same as before. |
